Pictured: me, sick and fuckin tired of it.

  • OP you are posting about TGA but what you’re really mad at is reddit and social media.

I will kill Geoff Keeley for the sin of personally making gamers insufferable

Okay, I understand, he is safe (:

  • I don't get the hate for TGA tbh. Not that there isn't any valid complaints or that it's perfect, but what's so wrong with people talking about a video game event that reveals new video games while celebrating the previous year's top video games on video game subreddits?

Not trying to @ you OP, but I'm so much more sick of anti-TGA posts and comments than people discussing them. It is annoying when everyone gets heated and objective about it all, but discussing GOTYs is exactly the kind of conversation spaces like Reddit are made for.

This is like mingling at a party and telling people that it's incorrect and annoying of them to talk about football or ask about a recipe for the dish they brought or something completely normal to be discussing.

It's mostly just every sub loosing their minds about about nothing leaks or making the same dead jokes they've been making for over a decade. OMG BLOODBORNE 2 🤣! Super funny, what next, GTA6 shadow drop? The host posts a picture of a statue on twitter and now half the subs I frequent are just scizo posting about what the shape of this crocodile could mean for every series under the sun.

The internet is so repetitive and unfunny it's gotten painful

Sure, but that's just reddit, not at all unique to TGA. You'll see those same jokes at every State of Play, Nintendo Direct, SGF, w/e Xbox calls their shit, etc.

And regarding the statue, again, people are discussing a topical event directly relevant to video games on video game subreddits. It can be annoying, but like, should they go talk about it on r/politics instead?

I also get annoyed at the occasional reddit thread. For example, I muted r/kitchenconfidential because I got extremely annoyed with this "Cutting chives everyday until Reddit says they're perfect" post that bombarded my feed every day for weeks, but that's just it: I muted it and moved on. Making a post about it just comes across as that "QUIT HAVING FUN" meme.

i like them because every discord server I'm in is spontaneously lit up by people who just parrot whatever got revealed at the awards like people who aren't them care

all of my gaming news comes from people who watch these events and just give the people who aren't attending a play by play, because why the fuck would I attend if I'm just gonna be hearing about it anyway

It's an ad campaign that someonw dropped some awards for some big tickets games every so often.

    Oh! They're ads??? I didn't realize!

I'm with you all. TGA fucking sucks! Happy to be one of the smart ones 👍

  • Nah I’m here to gladly see Twitter people understanding that audience votes suck and should not be trusted to pick a game of the year. Doubtful that genshin will win but if it did it would be like solo leveling winning best anime of the year.

  • I don’t know a damn thing about gaming awards and don’t pay attention to them, so I’m even older & more crotchetier than the cartoon old crotchety guy there

  • I dunno. Im having fun with the rumors, the leaks, the counter leaks the counter counter leaks.

I think another Divinity game has been confirmed, debunked, and debunk debunked a few times now.

  • They unveiled that stupid statue way too early

  • I'm excited for what they're going to announce but dreading the shitstorm that'll come with the GOTY reveal whatever it is and seeing all the "TGA sucks cuz my ffavorite game didn't win" stuff.

  • I just ignore it and look up "GA trailers" the next day.

  • TGA viewers when any game not developed by fromsoftware wins GOTY: "ugh, never cared for the game awards anyway 😒"

TGA viewers when fromsoftware gets their 11th GOTY: "it was 100% deserved, geoff has good taste 😎"

  • Where are you hanging out that you hear so much about it? I actually thought they were over cause I haven't seen anything about em in 2 weeks

  • I’m looking forward to it but I understood very quickly that it’s all one giant advert. No one should take it too seriously

I enjoy the predictions and speculation, and I sort of love it when a winner really annoys folks too.
