It's cool when you get to be a part of it with everyone else though. Wish I could get into Game of Thrones for that same reason. I was thrilled to enjoy breaking bad as much as I did since there's so many people I can talk about the show with
Yeah- I was more into GOT for the costumes and production. I’m an artist and jeweler and they went hard on that show for good design. I actually remade George RR’s wedding ring a number of years ago.
It’s okay to be into some things and not the others!
I mean- I’ve watched a lot of it- hoping I would get into it. Didn’t like BB at all. Watched almost all of battle star and hated it the whole way through lol. I feel the same way about the sopranos.
Watched a lot of them- and not in a binge watching way- and just really didn’t like any of the characters so it was hard to get invested.
Not everything is for every audience ya know? You’re certainly not alone in liking it!
For sure. I thought you said you hadn't watched BB at all, so I misunderstood you there.
I've never done GOT because of how annoying everyone was about it and then how they all hated how it ended. I think I would like it but I'm not willing to invest that much time for a show that everyone just dropped once it ended bad
I’m a professor and tell students that I’m from Albuquerque and referencing BB. I stopped a few years ago when not one student knew what I was talking about
I think its a better feeling to see people's crestfallen faces when you tell them you haven't seen whatever their trying to talk at you about. Too cool for schlock shows.
Being a snarky little shit doesn’t fight any power. It doesn’t stick it to any ‘man’. You didn’t win anything. You only alienate yourself from others by being that way. And really that’s a joke you’re playing on yourself.
You run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day- you’re the asshole.
I am old enough to have watched it when it was new so that probably helped me. It is one of the best shows in history IMO but I could see getting burnt out.
I am currently watching Boardwalk Empire and I've been trying to pace myself so I don't get burnt out as it's nearly as long (within 10 hours I'd guess). I tried watching it many years ago and didn't even make 2 seasons but I remembered really enjoying it so I started again as I had no idea where I was or what exactly happened.
Yeah, I made it about 2 seasons into Boardwalk Empire and then, for some reason I can't remember, kind of lost interest (same thing that happened to me for Sopranos). I'm all for a slow burn in a movie, but TV series that are a slow burn kind of a thing just start to drag when you're talking about being 24+ hours in.
Love Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt, Michael Kenneth Williams (rip), as well as the many other notable cast members, but I've attempted to get into this show at LEAST two or three times in earnest, to no avail.
Kind of same, but I still finished it. I know "mafia bad" was the main point, but I disliked how much of an evil bastard Tony became, especially since the first season made it seem like he was going to be somewhat decent
They’re working on remaking it in 1 minute vertically-oriented clips.
Might miss a few key details and some character/plot development, but you should be able to get through in a few days.
E: I see I’ve angered the zoomers. They’re now furiously watching something positively filled with CGI, in rapid 2-second shots clipped together into something sufficiently stimulating, as a palate cleanser.
I'm the right age and love the show but it still didn't click until someone said it. But let's just be envious of the youngsters that can still watch sopranos and the wire for the first time
I looked this up, and it turns out that in order to recognize it you would not only have to watch The Sopranos, you would have had to make it to one of the last episodes of the last season! (And it's not like watching the show up to this point would help, since the character isn't recognizable with a bag over his head.)
That's a really deep cut reference to the Sopranos. Tony's son, AJ, tried to kill himself by tying a rope that was wrapped around his neck to a cinder block and throwing it in the pool. The thing was, the rope itself was too long - it didn't hold AJ underwater all the way.
My first watch of the Sopranos I thought he was so whiney. Second watch I kinda felt empathy for him. Not tough enough for the family business. No good friends. Everyone in his life is a selfish, phony, hypocrite. If that’s all you see it’s kinda depressing.
It’s a scene from The Sopranos where one of the main characters tries to end his life. I wasn’t sure how much I could put in the title without it getting taken down, and a concerned redditor even reached out about me because of the subject matter! Which is extremely touching, whoever did that is a very kind person. I should have provided more context: I have absolutely no desire to harm myself; I just thought the tattoo fit this sub perfectly. It’s a wildly tasteless tattoo but done very well.
It's a pretty solid trad style tattoo. Lines, color, shading, all good and a clear readable image. Great? I guess that's up to personal taste but everything is done well.
I bet having to explain this to everyone (which the tattooed person will have to do all the time) gets really tiring after a while. I’d want to tie myself to a cinder block if it were me.
Are we supposed to know who this is?
Sopranos
Reddit getting younger every year!
I was the appropriate demographic when it came out and I never watched it. I knew few people who have!
Yup. I’m 41 and never liked it. Didn’t like or watch breaking bad or battle star galactic either. Not everything in pop culture is for everyone.
It's cool when you get to be a part of it with everyone else though. Wish I could get into Game of Thrones for that same reason. I was thrilled to enjoy breaking bad as much as I did since there's so many people I can talk about the show with

43 here. I resisted most of these shows too but I finally watched Breaking Bad during Covid and it's pretty great.
I mean- I’ve watched a lot of it- hoping I would get into it. Didn’t like BB at all. Watched almost all of battle star and hated it the whole way through lol. I feel the same way about the sopranos.

Breaking Bad is much more enjoyable if you at least like drugs a little bit.
Better get onto Pluribus for Vince Gilligans new thing lol
...I'll probably wait until everyone starts harassing me to do so. You're the first person on the list so far!
Nah, as soon as you give a reason like that, you aren't too cool for anything, you're just needlessly contrarian. Like an edgy 13 year old.
It's never needless. Fight the power. ✊️
What power?
Being a snarky little shit doesn’t fight any power. It doesn’t stick it to any ‘man’. You didn’t win anything. You only alienate yourself from others by being that way. And really that’s a joke you’re playing on yourself.
You run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day- you’re the asshole.
Get off Reddit you have algebra homework to do.
But, but, but- he learned the word crestfallen in English this week, and wanted to use it in a sentence 😂
Watch out everyone, we’ve got an edgelord over here hahaha
I binge watched like the entire first season....then I just stopped. No idea why, guess it didn't really have a hold on me.
I love the mafia / gangster movies, to a point.
Okay but I can’t recommend Breaking Bad enough. I don’t even really watch TV at all but DAMN that show was fantastic.
I just watched it for the first time this year. Overall, it’s a lot.
Like why would you even assume everyone old enough to even watch it did!?!
I've seen it and I still didn't catch the reference. Then again, when you binge 9 seasons over a couple months, you're bound to forget stuff.
I watched the show 3 different times and it still didn't click for me until someone said it.
I couldn't finish it :/. It was really good, just went on forever, got burned out
I am old enough to have watched it when it was new so that probably helped me. It is one of the best shows in history IMO but I could see getting burnt out.

Same. I really liked the show but had to stop. I know a ton of people who have never seen a single episode.
Kind of same, but I still finished it. I know "mafia bad" was the main point, but I disliked how much of an evil bastard Tony became, especially since the first season made it seem like he was going to be somewhat decent
I felt the same about Jax in Sons of Anarchy.
Yes, jax in SoA pissed me off.. if I don't like him, then I really have nothing to watch for
They’re working on remaking it in 1 minute vertically-oriented clips.

… don’t forget the subtitles one flashing word at a time and sped up 35%.
What does this have to with age? I might be older than you and have never seen this show
I'm the right age and love the show but it still didn't click until someone said it. But let's just be envious of the youngsters that can still watch sopranos and the wire for the first time
Or someone who never watched Sopranos like me.
I'm 40 and didn't know.
I'm 38 and had no idea what this was referencing though Sopranos would've been my guess.
I looked this up, and it turns out that in order to recognize it you would not only have to watch The Sopranos, you would have had to make it to one of the last episodes of the last season! (And it's not like watching the show up to this point would help, since the character isn't recognizable with a bag over his head.)
Or maybe not everyone is from the US...
In everyone's defense, it's one of my favorite shows and it took me a while to figure it out.
In my 40s and had absolutely no interest in watching it when it was airing and even less interest now.
Bro I’m 28 and had no idea what the fuck OP was referencing
I'm nearly 40 and haven't watched it.
I'm almost 60, from Long Island and never watched it. But my kids have.
I’m 55 and I didn’t know either. That shoe was just not my thing.
Over 30 and I don’t get it
Sopranos ended almost 20 years ago.
I guess it qualifies as a classic then!
Woke up this morning, got some gabagool
As someone who's watched the sopranos, I couldn't recognize what this was from
I just finished watching that show a few months ago and still didn't get the reference. Completely forgettable character.
AJ from the Sopranos, he tried to kill himself.
That's supposed to be a human?
What part of that is confusing for you?
The part where the face looks like a shitty Darmok cosplay.
It's a bag.
He has a bag over his head.
That's a really deep cut reference to the Sopranos. Tony's son, AJ, tried to kill himself by tying a rope that was wrapped around his neck to a cinder block and throwing it in the pool. The thing was, the rope itself was too long - it didn't hold AJ underwater all the way.
I guess that’s a good kind of embarrassing.
My first watch of the Sopranos I thought he was so whiney. Second watch I kinda felt empathy for him. Not tough enough for the family business. No good friends. Everyone in his life is a selfish, phony, hypocrite. If that’s all you see it’s kinda depressing.
I had no idea! I stopped watch after the psychologist was sexually assaulted. Poor AJ 😞

Are we supposed to know who you are?
They copied the post title straight from the sopranos subreddit, where they would have all known who AJ was
Execution is not exactly wowing me
All right, but you gotta get over it.
Probably because it's suicide.
It's a pretty solid trad style tattoo. Lines, color, shading, all good and a clear readable image. Great? I guess that's up to personal taste but everything is done well.
What's this even from?
The son on the Sopranos
I bet having to explain this to everyone (which the tattooed person will have to do all the time) gets really tiring after a while. I’d want to tie myself to a cinder block if it were me.
Big sopranos fan, remember this scene vividly. I had no idea until I read the post title.
We can’t have him in our social club anymore
Social club???? He’s got to goooooo
King of the Hill got weird after I stopped watching.
LOL i saw Bobby too
He’s not like me. He’s sensitive.
Never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
What a gabafool
All this from a piece of gabbagool?!
Let's get back to the gabagool.
In the gabapool?
Its a pretty mediocre execution.
Agree. If not for the cylinder block I wouldn't have got it.
What kind of likeness is that?
I’m supposed to get a tattoo when this is my male heir??!
Need to post this in r/circlejerksopranos!
I make a party for my tattoo picture
I’m supposed to get a vasectomy when this is my male heir? Look at him!
Tiny hands and why is he holding it like that
He never had the makings of a varsity athlete
What is wrong with you
Frankly, I’m depressed and ashamed.
....what?
This is going to look like a klan member from afar
Yea but you gotta get over it
r/nottodaypal
wat
The Genesis
Jesus fucking Christ
...you gotta post this in r/TheSopranos
Bold choice getting someone else’s meltdown immortalized on your skin… but hey, at least the $4/lb deal is solid.
Ahaha what garbage is that from
This is like the inverse of this sub. Great taste awful execution.
That’s… definitely a commitment. Bold choice, questionable execution, but hey $4 a pound is the real crime here.
Big commitment energy… and also, $4 a pound really makes me wonder what the conversion rate is for life choices.
Looks nothing like AJ Brown 🧐
