I was re-watching this scene and noticed that Zebrowski's stripes looked spray painted (right) compared to Zebraxton's whose stripes are clearly defined (left). His ears and fur near his hooves are tan too and most of his arms are covered.
Looked up "are one of the Zebros a horse" and saw on the fan wiki page that he was. If it's true, I wonder if it's going to be revealed in the 3rd movie!

This is just another in a long line of details snuck in there to play up the relationship angle. All of Bogos new teams seem to be dependable same-species pairings, except these two are a “closeted” different species pairing.
This is geniunely so interesting to me considering it's the detail I NEVER would have noticed if someone didn't point it out. Can't wait for these two to be out of the closet in Zootopia 3
Which one is closeted besides the zebros?
i think the one with jacket and hair
Definitely the one with the jack and hair. The other has regular sharp markings, while the other has kind of drawn on fake markings.
Also look at the fur between his hooves (their hooves are also different) and jacket sleeves. He just really wants to be a zebra.
Plus the skeletons look different too. Not just the hooves. That’s why I’m leaning towards the one with the longer mane being a mule with stripes painted on his body.
It's interesting – in that room of same-species pairings, Bogo seems to trust that pair the most (seeing that they accompanied him to the Zootopia Gala)
Trying to imagine two separate subplots for this:
1. Zebraxton knows that he's not a Zebra and they're just blending in for whatever reason
2. Zebraxton doesn't know about Zebrowski and they're planting seeds for either the next movie or for a Zootopia+ short
I think 2 might be more likely given they didnt even know each others first names until the end of the movie. It implies that Zebroswski perhaps manufactured their “sameness” because he wanted to work with him.
You know how in ones of the deleted scenes from Zootipia 1 nick with his “son” that had a disease where he thinks he’s actually an elephant. Maybe it’s a real disease and that horse thinks he’s a zebra
Not trying to sound rude or a dick or anything bad but...wouldn't that just be a trans horse? Horse to Zebra? Nothing wrong with being who you want to be.
Edit: as in its not a disease they're just Trans. Which is not a disease for the record.
lol ya I’m not saying trans is a disease. Just watched the deleted scene again and nick says it’s an infliction, idk why I called it a disease
No no I get you you're good lol I was just like theres a better word probably xD
Why don’t they have hands? I’m pretty sure Zebras and other Equines had hands before:

Then again: they don’t have hands in this historical recreation.

Where did this come from, bro?
Edit: Okay, I see it's from the graphic novel.
The movies supersede supplemental material
The comic is apocryphal, but otherwise only certain species with a certain kind of hoof have fingers. I think the deal is animals whose hooves are actually multiple toenails get hands and animals whose hooves are genuinely a single toenail are stuck with hooves.
Most likely changed because even in a very stylized setting, it would be completely inaccurate. Animals with cloven hooves have been given hands like that because they have cloven hooves – horses do not. Giving horses hands like that would be the same kind of mistake as giving deer horse hoofs
Sure but counterpoint, it was deeply unsettling to watch the horse mayor hold objects.
I think they could have at least given them thumbs.
Personally I think it was just for the counting joke with Mayor Winddancer.
And here I thought they served absolutely zero purpose but "comic" relief. Sometimes it's nice to be wrong.
It's also an actual Polish surname (spelled Żebrowski with a Ż). While it looks like "zebra," it actually roughly means "of the river bend."
It's a nice touch because American media usually just combines a random English word with -ski and calls it a day.
What's the name referring to exactly? Like what does "of the river bend" mean?
In another Slavic language “Žebra” means “ribs” and Zebrowski is painting stripes on his body, ribs resembles stripes and maybe that is the word play only Slavic languages speakers can get, but maybe I overthink too much, I don’t know…
Edit: grammar.
Żebra means ribs in polish as well, don’t know what that person was on about
Well, they picked it because of the zebra thing.
The actual historical meaning doesn't matter here.
no.The actual historical meaning do matter. You see though this polish word do look like Zebra, it actually mean rib hence if you look at the horse's body part you will find he is a horse
Ugh.... are you sure?
Żebro means Rib, as in like inside chest, bones.
River bend is "zakole" or "meandra"
I am not particularly good at river part names so I did try to check your meaning, but I didn't find anything so maybe some dialect?
I did find meanings for this surname as in from beggar or "żebrak" or based on a town "Żebra" and of course no one would invent a surname based on a bone name so I'd say one of the above.
Where did you get the river bend idea?
He’s actually a mule since he still has the tail of a zebra but the mane of a horse. His ears are too short to be a donkey.
*Zorse. A mule is half-horse, half donkey specifically, not just any equine hybrid. Zorses are zebra/horse hybrids.
That’s another possibility.
it's what you meant instead of mule, actually. mule is horse/donkey. zorse is zebra horse. zedonk is zebra donkey
I forgot a zorse existed so yeah that makes more sense.
Is this the equine version of blackface?
blackandwhiteface
Stripeface
…How did I not notice this,
Look at the jacket on the poster for Beverly Hills Cop 2, a 1987 buddy cop movie where Eddie Murphy plays a Detroit cop sent to Los Angeles to solve a case, with all of the cultural hi-jinks that ensues.

Nice catch! Looked for a frame of their full body and noticed on the way that you can see Zebraxton's stripes on his legs, but Zebrowski's jeans are floor length and covering up the rest of his legs. Fishy!!
Nice catch
Zebrowski also has a more horse like mane.
https://preview.redd.it/hwvndo23lz8g1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=2e5b5102788196d2c6eb155cb41d36f5c633a76c
yeah Zebras have more of a stiff mohawk
His wrists are literally tan, and has totally different hooves lol. Nice catch
Plus the longer mane too is a giveaway. I suspect a mule is cosplaying a zebra.
hoooly shit
The Zebros were cocky douches but they were also probably the least corrupt.
I think he's a horse, dyed his fur, probably because he think his partner is cool or wanted to match.
Wait this is weird/creepy.
Does his partner even know he wears that stuff? I ask, because they didn't even know one another's names apparently.
I mean imagine finding out the person you work closely with has been wearing makeup to disguise themselves as a different ethnicity or race 🤯😂

underrated comment
And they’re voiced by wrestlers. Making the scene where Gizelle elbow dropped them, a layered joke
Actually, yes!
I think one of them are Quagga, a different type of Zebra or have some other animal mixed in. Still Zebra, just self conscious or maybe something that can brought up in another movie. It’d be a good way to talk about mixed races animals without it getting oddly weird for for Disney to confront
It's weird that I noticed this in the teaser trailer freeze framing on every 'character shot' months ago and some people didn't. I'm willing to bet that even his choice to wear a jacket is tied into not needing to paint stripes up and down his arms.
Cool. Any other details you noticed about other shots?
The radio on the Boar Cops image is tuned to channel 24. Which could be a reference to the series. Also the armadillo is wearing what almost looks like scrubs rather than a uniform. Could be they repurposed him from when supposedly they had scenes establishing the hospital was having trouble with chief bogo with the venom.
What a great eye!
Thanks for sharing. I wouldn't have thought of that, especially the armadillo bit. I saw there were theories, but the idea that he just puts on the uniform like that is the most accurate thing I've seen so far. P.S.: It was a good choice not to include more scenes of Bogo in the hospital, and with complications in his recovery. That would have taken some of the focus away from the story.
Ok this is so clever n raises so many questions!
Explains a lot, honestly
Lol, how did I not notice this
In Zootopia, anyone can be anything. If a horse wants to be a zebra for the sake of his partner, who are we to judge?
So, if this doesn't end up as a short film on Z+, it could reinforce how much prejudice matters in the city, and how some people even pretend to be someone else. I see it as a complement to a short scene on Z3. What do you think?
zebraface?
based off of his mane (assuming it is left as is) and fur color around his hoof, maybe he looks more like a norwegian fjord horse underneath? cool!!

This animal comes to mind
Yh, bro
Is transitioning applied for species too?
Yeah it was confirmed a bit ago
Was this not said in the movie? I swear I remember one of the zebros admitting his stripes were fake
Which one looks like a horse the one with the overalls or the other one
The one with stripes drawn on with crayon.
The other one, he has long sleeves on too to hide his arms
Thank you so to clarify the one who is lighter and has a bit of brown when he’s fist pumping the other guy where you can see his wrist is light brown
Correct! Pretty cool little blink and you miss it detail imo :)
Damn I can’t believe I missed that but then again when I watched it in cinema I wasn’t really paying attention to them as much or what they were wearing lol but thanks
Also why is he pretending to be a zebra tho
This definitely wasn’t something I noticed either until someone else pointed it out!
As far as why… The only other interspecies partners seem to be troubled and in therapy so maybe it’s his way to fit in?
Fair enough
Where was this confirmed?
I always thought it was a joke about how there are three different species of zebra...
Nah. I was confused too but when I started looking at more pictures from the front and back I realized that he’s definitely NOT a zebra. If you look at his hair/ mane from the back it’s definitely not a zebras.. and his ears kinda give it away as well.
Take note of the forelock on the right too... Zebras don't have one, horses do
I originally thought one was a costume.
(Thinking about the "under cover" assignment at the end of z1 where Wolfard puts on a sheep costume)
No wonder why gazelle said "zebra" opposed to "zebras"
The zebra guy was the one who shoved the tiger.
Of course Officer Zebrowski s a horse not to mention make up he wears.
Are their not different breeds of zebras?
They're voiced by Roman Reigns and CM Punk
Wait, the mayor is also a horse. Could nepotism be at play here?
Oh interesting!
what the fuck i never realised
That must be why he was ‘confessing’ at the end!!!!! He just. Didn’t get that far. Lol.
He looks like an okapi
Could also be a Zorse which is a man made hybrid
I noticed that too and was wondering why he looked like that, but didn't really think about it more. Now that I've seen this, that's actually a pretty cool subtle detail that's definitely gonna be interesting in the next movie
Haven’t seen the movie yet. But could it be an undercover job.
I think it’s similar to the army’s “don’t ask don’t tell” policy... If the question was “Are you appropriating Equine Culture?”
Isn’t this the equivalent of doing blackface to not look like a mixed race couple?-
Honse
Wow excelente!
Zebrowski*
I thought zootopia Where anyone can be anything
Legit thought you said “Wazouski” for a second
Well technically their names are really Gene
I mean you can see his wrists are brown
I don't think I've noticed that little detail
Yeah! Look at his arms! They have brown fur on them and no stripes- those stripes are on his sleeves!
well his Partner will him accept too if he is no Zebra.
Could also be the soon between a zebra and a horse
Horse to zebra transition :3
"Wait... is that f****ing stripe-face dude??"
