Please format your comment as follows

  • [Title] by [author name]
  • Post a link to the first chapter of the story or the relevant chapter
  • Post the summary/synopsis provided by the author
  • Eventual review

Repeats from prior months are allowed. A good story can be discussed for quite some time, and there are always new readers around.

Please use the spoiler tag for any discussion regarding specific story details. Spoiler tags aren't necessary for general discussion ("The character progression is really amazing!").

How to add a spoiler tag:

Place any spoiler text between a set of these marks >! spoiler !<

For example, >!It turns out the protagonist was dreaming the whole time!!<

will show as it turns out the protagonist was dreaming the whole time!

You are welcome to post your own work!

The comments are sorted newer to older by default. Use CTRL + F to find the fanfic you are looking to discuss; if it isn't there, feel free to add it. I'd also appreciate if you could tag spoilers when posting your discussion. Perhaps start your thread with the chapter number (if your story has one) and then hide the discussion in spoilers, that way we don't accidentally spoil something for someone.

The rules and formatting are decided by you, simply message the OP.

The wiki has an archive full of fanfictions!

There's a master list, a Hall of Fame with the selected few best fanfictions, and then there's a list separated by genre.

Congratulations to u/BCRE8TVE and u/BunnyMakingAMark for the tremendous work that they've done for that article! Everyone is welcome to contribute, fix mistakes, fix broken links, and even fix typos.

  • I feel that allowing individual artworks, but condensing fan fics to a single thread, is a bit insulting to the medium, but I'm not a moderator of the sub-Reddit, so it is what it is.

    • A Good Lynxley by Iantos (myself)

    • It's a 'what if' had a certain car and a certain bunny been a bit slower, and things ended up going...differently.
    • Rating: Mature, has language, mild self-harm, etc.

    Thoughts welcome.

i’m someone who greatly values both fanart and fanfics and respects their creators (like you, ty for contributing~) a lot, so i can see the point you’re making! however, we have to remember that reddit is discussion-based and art is easier to have discussion about on here due to its format. it only takes a few seconds to look at a post’s art, form a thought, and then comment it. on the other hand, for a fic, you would have to read its synopsis, decide if you want to read it, take the time to actually read it, form thoughts, and then comment them if you decide to do so. naturally, this would lead to less discussion and fics are moved to a single thread in order to not fill the sub with so many posts with little/no discussion. i think it’s reasonable and doesn’t mean fanfics are “less than” fanart.

I appreciate your point of view.

Not entirely sure what the issue is, nowhere have we said you can't post fanfics as a new post. However, for the reasons above and the fact that some fanfics might be updated frequently, it is a good way to update monthly in one place.

  • A few days past three years later and Consecution (the direct sequel to Revisions in the Permutations AU) has another chapter. I have not really decided if I'm going to continue posting to FFN, so Ao3 will have to do for people at the moment. Happy reading. Another chapter will drop in a week.

  • https://archiveofourown.org/works/73998671 A Wilde Christmas by Mysticwriterhere

This is a Christmas fic I’ve been working on. It’s in the early stages still but should be picking up pace soon, just laying some foundations first ;)

Summary: Comfortable in the role of a cop but not quite comfortable in the role of something more emotionally-focused, Nick can’t bring himself to give Judy her gift from him face-to-face.

But does he come up with a solution? Yes, yes he does.

He proposes a workplace Secret Santa at the ZPD and within a day it’s in full swing!

Until the ZPD’s gifts are stolen… and the fox and his partner have to commence another grand adventure to find them…

  • I haven't posted in here for a while. I've been publishing new installments of my Zootopia Scenes and Shorts collection of (quite short) short pieces, many of which I had previously posted on Twitter from 2020 to 2023 based on Inktober prompts. One completely new piece I published six days before Zootopia 2's release, but it takes place some years after the sequel, with a married Nick and Judy. I hope you'll enjoy "T-Shirt" on FanFiction.net, Archive of Our Own, or DeviantArt!

  • I think the three-part "Wildlands" series by SweetUnknown is one of the best written fanfics out there, just in terms of pure writing talent alone. For anyone who loves a slow-burn romance, and has nostalgia for the Robin Hood cartoon, you will enjoy this. It even still works in the context of Zootopia 2, for the most part (although the chickens at the very beginning of the first story are a rare exception).

    https://archiveofourown.org/series/966198

This series is wonderfuland predicted a lot of Judy's and Nick's issues. One of my favorites as well, and I second the recommendation.

  • A Break in the Routine by reskarina (Me!)

Hello! This is a one-shot I did a few days after watching Zootopia 2 for the first time. It's a psychological character study, slice-of-life (kind of) work taking place in between the major events of the first Zootopia and the ending with Nick's graduation and being the first fox cop, where Judy is doing paperwork and, while doing so, contemplates on her relationship with Nick.

    Summary:

Judy Hopps' life is defined by routine, by order, by systems and tables. It's a life that is predictable and stable, one where she can feel safe and secure in herself.

But Nick Wilde is anything but predictable.

  • Rare Mammals by TheWhiteFoxProject

Hi! I'm currently working on an OC Focused, Human-in-Zootopia, Adventure/Romance fic. Please give it a peek and let me know what you think :)

Summary: Alex Baker miraculously winds up in a world where all mammals evolved to be hyperintelligent. After briefly being detained, The Mammal Inclusivity Initiative devises a plan to integrate the sole human into society as their new political front-mammal. But with tensions rising, Alex will need the support from his anthro-friends to prove that loving your neighbor transcends species.

  • The Comfort Food Case by Vixit

When Judy is assigned a string of night shifts and starts to suffer from them, Nick decides to do something about it. Home-cooked meals are just what the foxy doctor ordered. Not that he can tell her that. So he starts giving her his "leftovers" from a mysterious diner. These gourmet delights soon spark Judy's suspicion that the meals are far more than what Nick claims.

    https://m.fanfiction.net/s/14527229/1/The-Comfort-Food-Case

I adore Vixit’s writing style! Has he written anything else?

At the end of his fics he mentions having Zootopia-inspired original stories on Amazon. Looks like a cyberpunkpunk adventure novel and a romantic short story collection.

  • FILM IS FINALLY OUT! WHOO!

Here’s a link to my series:

Days of Our Youth by Cr1ms0nD1am0nd.

‘Follow Nick, Judy, Jack, and Skye through the years as they grow up and face different challenges together.’

Here’s the link to my current story (new chapter out!):

A Eulogy for Those Still Here by Cr1ms0nD1am0nd.

‘‘Never let them see that they get to you.’ This has been the mantra for the Wilde family for as long as Nick and Skye can remember. It’s what their mother told them; it’s what their father told them; it’s what they constantly remind themselves. But eventually, something has to give. And when it rains, it pours.’

    Hope you all enjoy!

  • Well, well! First post post-Zootopia 2, and have I got a post for you!

Okay, that was terrible, but seriously: here's my usual fics, including my newest one, plus my recommendations.

Sometimes, their partnership was tested, but they weathered these challenges, and in so doing grew closer than ever. Their detective skills in cracking not one, but several high-profile cases have put them on the map. Little do they know that their skills will soon be put to the test in a way that crosses the boundaries of reality… WARNING!! This fic does contain Zootopia 2 spoilers

    Beneath the Funfactory

Zootopia: The War of The Worlds

While away in Bunnyburrow visiting her family, Judy bears witness to a hostile incursion from Mars. Wells' classic science fiction story, The War Of The Worlds, through Zootopia.

    One-Shot Collection.

A series of one-shots inspired by and taking place in the world of Zootopia.

With my fics out of the way, I'm going to move on to my Recommendations list:

    Guardian Blue by Alps_sarsis

Needs no introduction. This compelling series has 12 entries. I cannot recommend this enough - it's the sort of series that you can read again and again. Season 3 was in progress, but unfortunately Alps_Sarsis is no longer with us. Regardless, he has left us with a series of stories filled with heart and soul, and you should absolutely read them.

    Stained Crimson by SkulShurtugalTCG

An ongoing series which has Judy taken on an assignment that will change her life - if she can just get through the time she has to spend with a lecherous Hollywool executive. Meanwhile, Nick comes across a mysterious arctic fox running from her past...

    The Long Game by Mikey2084

Nick and Judy must try to figure out their relationship and how to carry on with their jobs after predators begin to go savage again and the deputy mayor mandates shock collars.

Brave, Loyal, Helpful, and Trusthworthy by The Real Fanboy

    Baseball Bunnies by Sapperjoe85

Judy has found herself a baseball recreation league, and she gets Nick (who has been sent there as punishment by Bogo) to come along and watch. Featuring appearances by a variety of bunny characters from several different creators (including Es, my own character who you guys have yet to meet on here)

    Substitute Cheerleader by SkulShurtugalTCG

The Podunk Playmates need a new cheerleader, and who is volunteered? Judy, of course! With Nick offering teases aplenty throughout, this one's a real laugh to read. Cover art also done by yours truly

As always, I'm on the lookout for any new fic that catches my eye, and if I see it, I'll recommend it here.

  • Zootopia 2, here we are, after over 9 years of waiting.

If you are in for some fanfic nostalgia...

I've probably read a couple hundred fanfics in the three years after the movie came out and a few dozen more until now.

A lot of them were good, and some have even been finished, so I wanted to make a list of a few that really stuck with me. I'm pretty sure most people still active have read them all, but on the off chance that someone new stumbles in...

    Kulkum

    1. One Hundred Percent - on FF.net or as part of a collection on AO3

Nick Wilde lost three years of his life after being injured in the line of duty. Desperately trying to remember, he wonders why everyone around him seems to be hiding something...

    2. Sunderance - Only the AO3 version is being updated

In a city ruled by predators... With one species as their Alpha... Welcome to the Fox Den.

His other stories are also great, but those two stuck with me; especially OHP, it's bittersweet.

    Ready or Not by Boney

After a traumatic injury pulls Nick from service, Judy must balance looking after a stricken fox with new and unfamiliar feelings.

Superb writing, lots of fluff, and a really thought-out story. A+. There's also a sequel which has been finished as of February 24'.

    Scaramedn

    1. Barbed Wire Dreams

She's a veteran cop. He's a perennial ragamuffin. That's all there is to it, as far as she cares. Then, something happens that Detective Hopps can't explain or accept. The smug fox she knows and tries to ignore comes to her aid with lightning pulled from the wires and graffiti that snarls. Now, she has to decide; run like hell, or embrace the barbed wire dreams.

    2. Hereafter

When Judy gets her dream assignment on earth the last thing she expects is a nightmare. A crisis, an enemy operative with his own mission, and souls gone missing. With no support, she’s left to make a terrible choice: failure, or a deal with a demon. With damnation and apocalypse looming, can she trust a demon with a fox’s smile?

Those two are among the best AU-fictions you can find. If you like them, try some of his other stories. One or two were a miss for me, but I guess with so many stories there must be at least a few that don't meet everyone's taste. The rest is really good though. Sadly he hasn't been very active since he and his wife had their first child.

If still active, here's a quick shout-out /u/scaramedn that there are still people who read and appreciate your work.

    Zootopia: Firewatch by Bluelighthouse

After dealing with some hard times in the city Nick takes a summer job as a fire watcher in a national park outside of Zootopia. Trying to get away from it all and find solitude Nick instead finds another fire watcher named Judy. Who is she? Will he risk letting someone he can't even see in? Keep your eyes open Nick, there is smoke on

This one has a special place in my heart. :3 There are also two more parts.

Thanks for the Fox (Prequel to Guardian Blue) by the great Alps_Sarsis :(

When Nick suddenly refuses an assignment from Bogo, he's forced to reveal an extremely painful glimpse of his past to both his boss and his partner. Judy wants more than anything to help him, but Nick does not want her involved in such a personal issue. Stubborn as always, she involves herself anyway and discovers something unbelievable that may light the fox's way through his darkest days.

First part of the Guardian Blue series. Slow burn, but really worth it. Won't be completed, because he sadly passed away unexpectedly, but don't miss out on the completed parts of one of the best fics in this fandom.

Honorable mentions (may expand as I reread some of the older ones):

Short nice fic in a semi-fantasy setting.

    "The not-so-good ones":

I usually don't like criticising fics that authors put a lot of work into, but those mentioned below were recommended multiple times in this sub but completely miss the mark in my opinion. So save yourself a dozen hours...

Starts strong and has cute interactions between Nick and Judy in the first quarter. Gets off the rails about a third/ halfway through when Nick starts his Academy training. There's no real progress between N. and J. and while Nick has some character growth both seem stuck in the same mindset. It probably would have been fine if the author hadn't abruptly abandoned it after 230.000 words without a conclusion for a single storyline.

You could say it's the "original" Ready or Not, although most similarities cease after the first few chapters and it's much rougher around the edges. It's gritty and there are a few scenes which border on being OOC, but I guess you don't get an angsty slow-burn fic by presenting Nick and Judy as completely rational mammals. I stopped reading after four-fifths though, because it became focused on OCs and side characters and their actions lacked logic simply to advance the story. Also, Nick and Judy's relationship is just crossing three or four "checkpoints" and then not really mentioned again.

I really want to like this one. It's generally well-written, the premise is good and it has some grit, but there are so many unlikely coincidences to push the plot.

The last drop was about a dozen chapters (and most of my Sunday) in, when Nick revealed that his Scout meeting was on the day Judy was born. The same day his mom told him "his dreams would come true". I just stopped reading after that. I mean, come on...

Be romantic, be sappy, but at least try to keep it "realistic".

I feel like an ass for criticising such a big work, the author obviously spent much time on (and even finished), but too many aspects besides the one mentioned above felt forced to me. :-/

Maybe some people who read further, could share their opinion/experience? I've been informed, that the story mostly goes up from this point onwards. I'll update when I re-read/continue it eventually. :)

    end of post

Do you know if the fanfic version (not the comic) of Sunderance is going to be updated anymore? I think I saw on deviantart that the author(s) is/are stepping away from the comic, but nothing specific about the actual written story.

  • I've been writing for a good while, but have been desperate to get back into it again, so here is my own slow burn romance, slice-of-life Zootopia 2 Fanfic!

    Lilies by ElliottChap - https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14528785/1/Lilies

After the traumatic events on the Weather Wall, Nick and Judy are left with some new and confusing feelings to unpack. With the help of the ZPD psychiatrist, they embark on a journey of discovery and recovery, and learn what it truly means to love one another.

  • The sequel was amazingggggg! Looking forward to a flood of fanfics!

Here's a few I've enjoyed so far. First up is anything by Atocha. Her forgotten sons is fantastic, as is her mini fic retelling the second movie but more adult

    Forgotten Sons on ao3

Next up,Tearing Me Asunder This has been a bit of an angsty read, but a really fun Wildehopps read!

For my own fics, my main fic isYou Don't Know Jack This is my long fic. 9/20 chapters posted so far. It's got a ton of banter, adventure, action, Wildehopps, and so much more!

My other fic is just a fluffy domestic Wildehopps slice of life set in bunnyburrow, and maybe I'll add more to it at some point.A fox's fluffle

Hope to see some of you stop by!
