That was my first impression as well. Without windows I would have a hard time enjoying myself. I want to see those 40+ acres of nature that I’m buying.
Sent an offer that will get rejected but I couldn’t help myself. If I can get confirmation on permits for what I want to do with the land, this thing is sold.
Waiting to hear back on permits and potential noise restrictions because I will turn this into a track behind the pines, my buddy submitted ppw and this may be E-signed into fruition by EOY. Def gonna post because this sub hits my impulsive thoughts but this one went straight add to cart.
And from there, one hour to the mountains at Red Lodge, and then a ride over one of the most beautiful mountain passes in the country, to Yellowstone Park (summer only).
Not "blocked" where it can't open at all, but blocked from being able to exit. Especially in case of a fire or for fast emergency access. The windows look like they dont open to me. When I was in Alaska EMS used windows as access for blocked doors in snow storms.
I honestly didn't even know people were allowed to build homes with only one possible exit.
Yeah egress options are awful. They should have at least built in a back door.
And the lack of natural lighting makes it feel kind of claustrophobic. A couple of skylights would've really helped open things up a bit, given that it's not even a full earthship.
They mean that the lack of walls and doors means if a fire breaks out anywhere in that building when you’re sleeping you’re gonna have a really bad time. You’d be amazed what a simple interior bedroom door can do to improve your survivability in a house fire.
Reminder that this is also "hot as blazes in summer and -35 in winter prairie" Montana, rather than "pretty mountains TV show" Montana.
Also doesn’t cool down at night during summer and wind like knife across face during winter…
Makes me wonder if you throw some sod and grass all over that exterior if it'd help it both look less like an eye sore and also insulate this thing.
💯
Just got off the phone; acreage confirmed, RPX airport is useable, and enough land that will can get permits for a car “museum”. 197 sending it.
Haha nice, Gateway 2 electric car boogaloo
woah, making a Dakar Rally race on this property for ATVs/Quads! Let's go!
The real question is how well insulated it is because it gets damn cold in Montana and you could easily get cut off for weeks by a blizzard.
You can tell by the spray foam protruding from the logs
Lol just looked at the pics through the link.
Didn't have to be that well of insulated with all those HPS lights he was growing cannabis with...
my dream is to hibernate like a bear in my cozy den
Not to be a dick but it's just a quonset hut with a wood facade and a round wood door on the front.
It's also 46 acres
Only 45 more huts to go and I’m Bilbo freaking Baggins.
At this point you’re legally required to host second breakfast.
and still somehow has an HOA
Yeah - it's probably for road maintenance. That's what our fees were when we moved into out subdivision 20 years ago.
Yeah it looks like it's on a private road and those don't pay for themselves
yeah for 46 acres, not bad at all
I used to play bass for The Quonset Hobbits.
I saw the Quonset Hobbits open for the Bilbo bagpipers in 2009.
If you bury it, it becomes a hobbit hole though
For most of my life I thought they were called Kwanzaa huts.
That wood stove right on top of the wood flooring with no insulating layer makes me feel much better about my very minimal steel plate.
40 acres?! Is that accurate?
And a mule
Are you serious Clark?
The mule is for eating when you get snowed in
i thought he was the lawnmower?
Nope that's a quonset hut with a round door.
Cozy. I would not survive the lack of natural light, though, and I'd want to know more about the ventilation, because that's...not a lot of windows.
That was my first impression as well. Without windows I would have a hard time enjoying myself. I want to see those 40+ acres of nature that I’m buying.
I bet that quonset hut gets real loud if someone has apnea
That is the least charming hobbit house I have ever seen 😄
This is a sackville-baggins house
literally the only thing stopping me from making an offer is the location
Yes, only the...most important thing.
Maybe it can be moved
Lol sure
haha I was thinking the same thing! But here in Portland, that thing would be a lot more pricey. So I guess Montana it is.
Might work well in Hood River.

It’s only 50 minutes to Billings. That’s really not bad at all
But 50mins in the winter is going to suck
And from there, one hour to the mountains at Red Lodge, and then a ride over one of the most beautiful mountain passes in the country, to Yellowstone Park (summer only).
Not bad if you're of an accepted demographic.
…… white?
This looks more Fallout than LOtR.
3000 sf is not “cozy”.
Cozy is listing-speak for "only three windows that allow natural light" in this case.
Deeply concerned about what appears to be a single door for egress in Montana. I'd be scared shitless about it being blocked by a snowdrift.
The door opens inward tho

There appears to be a large garage type door on the backside. It’s shown in pic 3 in the actual listing. Also pics 19-23
Okay, I only want the front wall (and door).
I don't think it's an Amazon or doordash friendly area.
I was hoping for a bigger larder. I have a lot of cheeses to store.
Huge fire hazard
Update: Why are you downvoting me? There are barely any walls, doors, and windows.
Yeah egress options are awful. They should have at least built in a back door.
And the lack of natural lighting makes it feel kind of claustrophobic. A couple of skylights would've really helped open things up a bit, given that it's not even a full earthship.
It's definitely not safe, especially with the kitchen right by the entrance. If you have a kitchen fire that spreads, you're cooked.
Literally cooked!
It does look like the back wall has a huge garage door so they can at least flee out the back of the house.
That's good if that's the case! Still, I would prefer more windows and walls. But that's just my preference. Others may not agree.
Yes, but everything's made out of wood so it's fine
Like most houses that are full of flammable objects and a wood frame?
They mean that the lack of walls and doors means if a fire breaks out anywhere in that building when you’re sleeping you’re gonna have a really bad time. You’d be amazed what a simple interior bedroom door can do to improve your survivability in a house fire.
I understand that part. I just meant the lack of windows, walls, and exits.
Why does it have an HOA?!?! Wtf
Probably exists just to plow the roads.
I love this so much
Huh, doesn't feel like 3,000sqf.
Does it get cold there?
Its a barn with dirt piled on top. Its priced just fine.
Quonset hut masquerading as a hobbit hole.
I kind of love it.
40.5 acres and still an HOA?!? That’s wild
Oh…it’s a half-buried Quonset.
At least it’s on 40 acres.
Ship it to cali and im buying it!
With 40 acres! Holy shit!
buy land! they're not making more of it!
Nice
It's the Woodsy Woodhouse 🐿️
Yep looks perfect
When you live way out there, can you get Amazon prime? Does Amazon just crank all of your prices up to account for the distance?
Taxes $133. I’m speechless.
Putting aside the weather is likely colder than the Shire, that could get annoying fast, once the novelty wore off.
I’m in.
Fuck off with that HOA fee. I don't need some hairy-toed squirt ragging at me about my clothesline and Vegas-level Christmas display
Eww 🤷🏻♂️
