Most of what I see on YouTube now is super high quality, long form content. Usually a commentator sitting at their desk with a very bright light and microphone in their face. They find their niche and then post the same kinds of videos over and over again.

There’s certainly a place for videos like this, but I’m feeling nostalgic for the old days of YouTube when people posted unedited vlogs, rough-cut skits, and random videos that they have fun with. I loved watching Jenna Marbles because she really posted whatever she wanted. Joana Ceddia gave me a similar feeling, but she’s gone now too. I think Dan and Phil have a good balance of old school YouTube while keeping up with modern interests.

So, who do you watch that reminds you of old YouTube?

  • Some old gamers from the past.

    What are their names?

Oh, like The Nostalgia Critic and MatPat, Etc, etc.

  • No joke the smallest YouTubers you can find.

I'm so glad recently YouTube has been randomly throwing channels with 0-200 subscribers into my recommendations & the energy these people have is so much more genuine and actually helpful compared to the pristinely produced channels that get paid on YouTube.

Even the comments & interactions feel so old school because the creators will actually reply to your questions about things in the video & respond so kindly when you tell them they're doing a great job.

Yeah I’ve been getting channels like that too!! Can you name a few that you like ??

I honestly don't remember any specifically. My method is just clicking on a random one when it pops up & showing support so they get motivation to keep going.

  • Felipe something

I'll grab a link when I get home tonight

    It's so 90s

  • For me, old YouTube is someone just video-blogging about their day so when I want that nostalgic fix, I'll watch a man named Timothy Brimingham. His videos from years ago always give me that nostalgic, comfy feeling.
