Basically the title.

I don't even know why it's not even a thing. I'm tired of searching for some topics I like, to be slap in the face by 34 different grifter's channel.

Let. Us. Block. YouTube channel.

Edit : for people recommending me the "don't recommend channel/not interested" button, those only work for the front page and the channel can reappear after some time. I want something drastic who would also work on searches as well, to the point where if you directly search the blocked channels nothing appears.

  • I would use that.

Here at YouTube we take constructive criticism very seriously! Then promptly disregard all of it. Instead we will be implementing more mid roll ads and invasive shorts!

Not to mention breaking our own terms of service by allowing ACTUAL PORN on the service (if you've been cursed with the knowledge of what to look for), and allow EXTREMELY sexual mobile game ads... I've seen one several times that's just an anime girl going googoo-eyed from being groped in an elevator for a fantasy isekai gacha title. THESE THINGS ARE SO THEMATICALLY OPPOSED THEY COULD SPLIT THE ATOM JUST BY LOOKING AT EACH OTHER.

And allow obvious scammers to run ads.

Fr! I always press "not interested" or "inappropriate ad" on ts but I always get MORE. All I watch is caseoh, horror stories, and workout videos bc I work out at home in my small room lol. I have history off bc they used to reccomend me weird animated Minecraft videos wayyy back in 2015 since I would watch parodies of songs (and it solved the issue so I never turned it back on). So its not even from weird history or smth.......its awful. Kids are exposed to that stuff too. "Cuss words? No no! Bad! Porn? Yea more more!". Like what is YouTube doing....

Committing to money, NFTs, and breaking every moral code they once stood for. That's what...

If they ever stood by a moral code at all.

  • I would block every ______ Universe channel IMMEDIATELY. SpongeBob Universe, SML Universe, Gumball Universe, all the same AI dogshit

At least we still have "don't recommend this channel". I've seen AI generated ad dogshit from madmuscle, which basically a scam (yeah Taichi to have the body of WWE super star). I reported multiple times. nothing stopped it from keep playing fake ad.

That button feels like it barely works or works for like a week and then your recommendations are utter dogshit again. Also other than AI, no YouTube I don't wanna watch Saberspark(weird pervy furry)

Yeah I get you there. It's annoying seeing stupid shits from everywhere instead of what we actually want to watch. Beside that, I found out (at least from my personal account), channels that I sub-ed barely show videos compare to unsub-ed channels. That's just stupid lol. It's like "hey i think you like this content, so i suggested you this video" and then "ahh you like this channel I'm not gonna to show you videos again".

YESSS!!! EXACTLY!!! I SUBSCRIBED TO THE STUDIO I WORK FORS CHANNEL AND INSTEAD OF BEING RECOMMENDED THAT I GER RECOMMENDED MR BEASTS NEWEST SHITTER!

  • Yes! I want to block all AI slap shit channelse

  • I use BlockTube, which does that.

It would be ideal on source, but Blocktube works on client.

I gave you a thumbs up and downloading now on Firefox.

    Saved and bookmarked.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I will check it out as soon as I can.

  • Those don't reccomend/not interested buttons barely function half the time anyways and the same shit pops back up

I've been battling with that same Turkey tom channel since June...

    hahaha

I've had their video about Karl Jobst and Billy Mitchell constantly advertised to me for, what, two months?

Not clicked, ain't gonna click, just curious how long it's gonna sit there

I was wondering about this. I keep getting recommended stuff I'm not asking for asking for it stop appearing and then it still keeps appearing. Is that button just for show or something??

  • I don't get why it's not alr a feature

  • I agree, I get so annoyed that I pay for premium and still can’t block

  • But if you block the channel, then they can't recommend propaganda videos from child murders.

    What?

They can't allow you to block a channel, because then they can't ram it's propaganda content into your face over and over again. Remember, Alphabet is one of those companies that doesn't believe in the concept of personal freedom (you are their slave.)

I meant the child murder part.

It's the subject that we're not allowed to talk about anymore as our freedom of speech is gone as Americans. I don't feel like being viciously attacked today, so you either know what I'm talking about or you don't.

  • You can, with "FilterTube" extension. If its installed you can click the 3 buttons and really block a channel, and you can also completely remove youtube shorts and even block words.

Thanks, I'll try that. But I think it's a feature that has to be in the main app

Lol, the official app is hot dog water, just get rvx.

A lot of people don’t use browsers for YouTube

  • I was shocked when I tried to block a channel. It's absolutely ridiculous that we can't. The closest thing I found was the "Report" button, and even then it still didn't block them.

  • don't recommend channel works so well for the two youtubers i accidentally used it on and now cant undo, but doesnt work on channels i actually don't want to see... love it

  • Yea so that all anti woke grifters can shut up

You mean the people doing something about it while you sit on your couch waiting for it to go away?

Gonna try to set a world record for the blocking critical drinker speedrun

  • Buddy, I tried to block an AI hair ad and it had a block option, but the block option was unclickable 😔

  • Agreed. Ditto for advertisers. There are specific advertisers that only do 2 to 3 hour long ads and that's insane.

  • Agree! I’ve pushed the dots to not show me that Eugenia anorexic chick, that I’m not interested, block block block…. and everything years ago…. and yet she still comes up in a list randomly every few months when I search unrelated topics like crochet!

  • Whenever I click the three dots next to a video it pops up with an option that says “don’t recommend channel” it works for me

recommend on your front page and recommend when you search for a word is different though. For example, if you go look for Doomsday Trailer since you thought it was going to be released a few days ago you are going to see the fan made stuff by Screen Culture and Teaser Universe. You can't block Screen Culture to not show up any time you search for trailer. If they was recommended to you then yes you can prevent that from being recommended again in the future on your home screen, but you can't keep YouTube from ever showing that channel ever again if you search for trailer, or anything else that they have tagged for their videos.

  • Same goes for some subreddits!

  • We used to be able to. But greedy YouTube removed that feature.

I don't even understand the purpose at all

  • Block anything with Simon Wikipedia reader Whistler. AI slop before the AI slop avalanche was even a thing

    I prefer my slop human

  • My "Don't Recommend" basically works like blocking. I can still see the channels I do it to, but only when I search for something extremely specific to them, or their name directly.

For example, I asked it to not recommend anything from thequartering years ago, and I completely forgot he existed until two days ago when a completely different channel uploaded a video shitting on him lol.

I have a hell of a lot of time on YT (like, 9,000 hours cuz I have a desk job), and I actually can't think of a single time I've asked it to not recommend a channel and they still showed up anyways, outside of me searching their name directly.

I have no idea why it would be any different for you? That's odd.

For me, things I've said to "not recommended _ eventually start creeping back up after a few months.

  • This, or the ability to block content keywords. I like a lot of music channels but there are a few bands that I don't care to see content about.

  • Totally agree, its so annoying.

I watch youtube when i go sleep ( as i cannot fall asleep without anything in background )

Only to wake up 2am with some livestream running with fishing or gaming content ( Make a note , i dont watch nothing regarding fishing or gaming when im awake ) , and thats so annoying , like why would youtube take me to some random content that i wouldnt watch if i were awake, and no chance to avoid / block those channels. Had that happening at least 15/31 days in last couple months and always pretty much same channels.

And yes when i wake up due to all that running in background i just close youtube to avoid same thing happening again.

  • I would block all reaction, drama, and political channels.

  • Agree. Or a simple button: block all AI generated channels.

  • And filter out topics. Im going to cop some for this, but never have i ever searched for Warhammer ever. But God damn yt seems to REALLY want to show me all about it.

Same, for like 4 weeks straight I would put on something like dankpods and then wake up to the middle of one of Amberkings Warhammer 40k lore videos. In fact it's happened so much that podcast is starting to pop up on my YouTube music speed dial

  • You can click on where it says don't recommend channel again or whatever and then it asks you to confirm. Does that not work for you? I do it all the time and it seems to work fine for me.

  • We should also be able to block non-stop targeted ads for gambling if you are recovering from a gambling addiction. Same for alcohol.

  • youtube search is getting worse

  • You mean the thing that already exists?

You click the three dots and then "Don't recommend channel"

Ok, fair, that doesn't block searches. Bur YT search sucks generally.

I've done that multiple times and when i reopen youtube the channels videos are showing in my recommendations.

I don’t know maybe my YouTube works differently than other YouTube because I have premium but when I say don’t recommend a channel, I don’t see their videos again unless I go specifically searching for them. Like. Never. Now if you’re talking about just a commenter, then I can get behind your “block channel “. Because there are some commenters that I just don’t wanna ever hear from again or see and a block button would take care of that.

Same here. I too have Premium, and I've never had a channel come up again in my feed after I've hit Do Not Recommend.

That's not a block button. If you read my post , I'm talking about how I want a block button.

  • Absolutely agreed! Some channels just do not fit well in my category and there is just no way to hide them at all. This would fix all of my problems if it ever got implemented in YouTube. And also if we want them to get back to our feed we should be able to change that in the settings.

  • I wasn't aware that the don't recommend was just a nudge and not a 100% filter, but I haven't used it that often. I wonder if there's some ublock filter that could be made and customized.

  • Yes, so much yes.

  • Right? This should’ve been a featured like a decade ago. Don’t know why it isn’t.

  • I want the block as well... I have dead subscribers that I need to purge and I can't :( . I hope YouTube does housekeeping soon.....

  • Yes please oh my god, I wish we could block channels

  • Please I just want to block asmongold from my searches🙏🙏

  • i also with it would stop recommending me videos i've already watched. and reliably show me what i've watched.

the rec engine has really been going down the tubes in the last year or so

  • Agreed. I have the same problem. Too many grifters on YouTube.

  • And key words, "Jimmy Carr"

  • Yes, so I can block Markiplier and other washed-up 30 somethings

  • I did use that often. But then YouTube tries to say "we feel being able to block channels isn't very friendly to a community experience, so we got rid of it" a few years back

  • 100% agreed.

Not sure why this wasn't one of the first features implemented tbh. It should be very easy to implement.

  • Easy Peasy.

  • Hmmm. I thought there was. I unsubscribed from one and did something else and I never see that channel anywhere anymore. And they had over 2 million subscribers and was the biggest golf YouTuber.

  • Those buttons don't even work for me. I do it all the time to that one red head girl who lives in Japan and used to be a teacher. The way she speaks makes me want to throw a Gatorade.

  • The "Don't Recommend Channel" seemingly doesn't work because I often find said channels constantly posted to my feed.

  • Doesn’t the “Do not recommend this channel” option do this?

  • It's offered for ads...why not content.

  • They need to bring it back, back in the day you were allowed to block users on there and I don't know why they took it away. Then replaced it with hide user feature.

  • It’s all becoming AI slop at this point. I am a big fan of historical documentaries and now my feed is filled with AI remade and rebranded but there all the same.

And even if I click on do not show me these channels they came back in different names.

  • I used to install an extension just to get rid of the SSSniperwolf videos lol.

  • I would so love to see that feature. By not providing that option they're pushing viewers off of yt.

There are many cringe content creators. A recent video that comes to mind is from Android Police. I used to be a mod on Fb when fb was fresh in my country. It became obvious from back then that this channel was fishy. Lately most of his videos are from fishing for ideas by stalking subs as well as redditors comments on this platform. And then creating subtly condescending content, at times bordering on abusive, if things went against their marketing objectives, that one would have no idea is happening if they were not involved in the chain of the scam. A couple of other such tech reviewers come to mind and they seem to be a group of them creating promotional content in the guise of reviews.

I'd so love to block them from my recommendations and search results but youtube would rather sacrifice itself than remedy such issues. As a result my watch times have dropped from 5 hours years ago to around 2 at max nowadays.

  • I absolutely agree. The amount of accounts and YouTube channels I want to block just for toxicity and it's unchecked comments section are scaringly high.

  • but... there is, at last I have that option

I have the opposite problem: I had accidentally block channels and have no idea how to unblock it.

EDIT: I can't add an image: it's three dots > "clip, save, report, block channel, block video". You can dm me if you don't believe.

    EDIT2: I live in EU

  • This application lets you do that not sure if that feature is premium only.

    https://getcoldturkey.com/

Keep in mind that it doesn't stop the videos from being recommended just blocks the channel page+all videos

you'd need to use youtube native stuff for that.

  • Why don't you use the don't recommend option?

It only works for the front page and can reappear after some time. I want something drastic who would work on research as well, to the point where if you directly search the blocked channels nothing appears.

  • I found that turning off my history entirely works fairly well. No more video recommendations, at least on the main page.

But I agree, I wish I could block entire channels.

  • Its real, click the 3 dots on a video or short

Are you talking about the "don't recommend channel/not interested" button ? If so, those only work for the front page and can reappear after some time. I want something drastic who would work on research as well, to the point where if you directly search the blocked channels nothing appears.

It's not real when you can just block users from commenting on your channel since Google+ doesn't exist anymore.

  • But you can...

    Where ?

    3 dots, "don't recommend channel".

Not a block button + doesn't function on searches and barely function on recommendation

I want a clear cut block button

    Not a proper block function.

  • so, i want to agree,
but if you are seeing too many bad channels, you are spending way too much time on youtube already.
