The disc drive works and plays games just fine if I open from the home menu but the button doesn't open or close it. I'm pretty sure the button did actually work when I got the console pictured a few months ago but for some reason it doesn't now. Anyway this exact issue occurs on 2 of my phat consoles, any way to fix without disassembly?

  • Use electric contact cleaner and hope it doesn’t ruin the paint or get in the disk drive

  • Why not open it?

  • Take off the faceplate and see if you can do anything from there

  • Is it maybe that little rubber belt related? Common with drawers not opening.

  • the button is dead. the only proper fix is to replace the button. but you would have to open the console and solder a new button
