Oh man if they put functional mini games into the housing system and it like popped a mini chess or coop mini game people could play together within wow? That would be sick. I’ve always wished we could play legit hearthstone in the taverns of wow
For real, I see so many hearthstone games all over Azeroth, hell even the toy version we got from the Hearthstone anniversary some years back that's "playable", but it would be awesome to somehow bring actual strategy from the real game into it.
My million dollar wow idea has always been to integrate hearthstone into wow where you can just pull out a board while waiting for raid times or meet up with friends in an inn to play. Other players can spectate. Having card drops from bosses and potential for collecting variants and rares, heck you could even make an addition to professions for making cards. Im sure its possible to do, not probable though. I'd love to have friends come to my house to play hearthstone by the cozy fire.
I’d guess that’s what it is. If you look in your housing decor catalog, there’s a tab that is labeled as “functional.” In mine, I can see my cooking stoves that I can use to cook and a piece from the legion mage class hall that transforms you click on it.
Freaking dammit, I want that set so damn bad but I have not enjoyed D4 and I’ve put more money into it than it deserves. I wish they would just sell the items separately. I’d toss them a few bucks for it but I cannot justify the cost for the expansion.
Looks almost exactly like the chess board there too (with the border design) seems like they planned to then thought “what if we put this in the d4 xpac instead? “
I built a Faction themed one in my house using dyed tables and various knick knacks as pieces. The Elekk and Raptor plushies make great looking pawns. I've still need some better pieces for the Bishops and knights. But hoping for more options later
Probably not. I've put over 1000 hours in D3 so I'm not a D2 purist by any means, but I got to play D4 with the game pass and just didn't find it to be any fun :(
I wish I liked it but between that and the expensive FOMO events, I just don't see myself ever getting something for D4.
FWIW, D4 has had many updates over time, and many were substantial improvements to how the game plays. Itemisation changes, for example, lots of quality of life, etc. Not sure when you played it, but some of those may impact your enjoyment of the game. That said, it's also still possible it's not for you at all. They do make some unfortunate choices from time to time, and the monetisation is offputting sometimes.
I've been on a break for a few seasons, but looking to return now, not because I'd gotten upset with it, just it was down to spending too much time in WoW or D4, and wow wins for me, lol.
I think it got on the Game Pass last year, right? So I'd say it's been about a year and a half since I gave it a try. Not that I'm asking for a breakdown of changes but have a lot of them been in that span?
If you played it towards the start of availability on game pass that puts you somewhere in april/may/june 2024, which aligns with about a year and a half ago so that seems reasonable.
You may have seen this, but starting in May, they added "loot reborn" which changed the entire way loot worked in the game, and also added crafting to the game, allowing you to upgrade items. This has been iterated on quite a bit since to improve it, but it was already a large step up over the launch systems. They also added "the pit" which is ABSOLUTELY NOT just them stealing the greater rifts system from D3, even if one of the devs accidentally called it a rift on stream :P
They added some more endgame modes next, a sort of wave defence thing called infernal hordes, kind of fun, imo.
Then they tweaked loot a bit more to make affixes on gear even more fun, added a new class with the xpac, redid the leveling/paragon system substantially (you now reach lvl 60, then start paragon levels separately), added runewords which are like item affixes you build by applying a trigger and effect rune onto gear. They also added a merc system which can have one active merc with you, and one that appears momentarily at certain proc events. Each have their own (small) skill trees. They also added a "raid" which I really enjoyed, but I don't think they've done so again, though I may not have spotted it in the seasons I've skipped.
They then added "the armory". Basically build slots, and free respec.
During all this they've been adding seasonal events and powers too, of course, but just focused on the long term stuff here. They've also added to and tweaked the boss ladder at the endgame, adding new bosses, new loot, new paths to defeating them, etc.
There's also been a few seasons since, but I'm not sure what was added in them.
For me, the main improvement in all of it was definitely the very first loot reborn stuff, which it's possible you actually played with if you went in after may. It just made interacting with items much more enjoyable, rather than the flood of useless shit that it felt like before. Plus building them into more powerful versions is fun, and their itteration on it has improved. They've also improved the classes over time, adding to the skills and giving them ways to be modified a little too. That said, it's still divisive among Diablo fans. I enjoy it as a casual enough game, I was logging in and finishing each season save the last 2 or 3, but I wasn't chasing my character up to perfect BiS or insane levels of power.
Omg like the kara event! If you didn't want to use players, you could have 2 players compete with the housing owner as the board mover in edit mode moving pieces in real time. Screw the promo this is entirely possible without having a pre-set board.
These items will be in like a third of all houses if history is anything to go off of. The people have spoken loudly and repeatedly its beating a very dead horse for sure.
Really the only thing I disagree with is the premium currency, that’s so stupid. Real money store has existed since forever and tie in game rewards has also been a thing for awhile. You’d be silly to not believe they’d do real money for furniture in fact if they didn’t they would be silly. At the end of the day, it’s just money if you want it and can afford it go for it.
"That everyone expected it to be" my guy they announced that there'd be furniture sold for real money while they were still drumming up hype
Can it be called an expectation when they said it out loud
I think it's more along the lines of people are just surprised at how shitty things will be in the future. Diablo hasn't been super successful, Diablo 3 was kind of a flop for a while until over time they eventually fixxed it.
Diablo 4 was fun for a handful of times and occasionally jumping on here an there for a season, but for most it's not a game you'd play consistently and all the time like WoW.
I personally realized after Diabloa 4 that while it's a fun game, it's not really my thing and haven't bothered buying any expansions or anything for it and I think a lot of people feel that way. Making the only way to get cool items for something you do enjoy is by buying something you don't care about just feels bad.
Cross over events that make you play different games to get people to try them I think are fine, but making people buy your other games to get stuff in the games you DO care about is too much imo.
For me the problem with a game like Diablo is that I'll start it, see all sorts of cool shit that is no longer obtainable, and then think what's the point of jumping in this late?
And then you have to stick with it too to get all the future cool shit. WoW already has enough FOMO. If D4 was a more casual thing that I could actually drop in and out of without missing so much stuff, I'd probably get the expansion and play the game.
You get these from pre-ordering any version of the expansion
"Hell has never felt so at home. Stock your furnishings for Housing in World of Warcraft®: Midnight with decor so devilish it would meet the Blessed Mother’s approval. Pre-order Lord of Hatred to receive three different pieces of Housing Decor in World of Warcraft, including a Wolphisto rug to adorn your fireplace with Prime Evil splendor.
These items also include a functional chessboard, which evokes from Sanctuary’s far reaches."
That's fine. That's a little bonus for the people who play both WoW and D4. They've been doing tie-ins like this for over a decade, idk why people get up in arms over it.
Really? It’s probably my favourite of the Diablo games. In terms of the atmosphere, especially sound design I thought they killed it. I liked the story too, even if it ended up on kind of a cliffhanger going into the first expansion.
I have been preordering stuff to get the bonuses every single time, but I do it as late as possible (meaning, most of the times, one day before the actual launch).
No reason to give them my money too far in advance, but I figure if I'm going to buy it on day 1, I might instead buy it on day -1 and get some extra stuff
Haha, that’s not ocd that’s a pretty major blunder in chess! It’s not even an aesthetics thing, white on the right + queen on her color is basic board setup
I don't understand why people have chosen to be so pissed about this. This is like the 100th time where you buy a Blizzard game and they give you some cosmetics for other games. It's a fun perk, the level of entitlement for getting some free cosmetics when you buy a game is fucking ridiculous and embarrassing.
I find them hideous myself but imo they shouldn't lock something with an exclusive use and style like a chess set behind a pre-order bonus.
The rug? We already have animal rugs. The chest? We already have chests.
Sure they aren't identical visually but they're close enough for the vibes unless you really want a big skull. But there's no way to get a chess set right now.
Because there are literally 2197 other items to collect inside WoW without purchasing the Diablo 4 expansion. They have absolutely no right to complain until they run out of things to collect from WoW gameplay.
The "thing" beginning here was the obvious goal of blizzard to start selling house stuff for yet another form of mtx in our pay to own, pay to play game with 7 other ways to pay more money.
Yes but that was obvious wasn't it? They are a for profit company and that's probably at least partly why they put that much effort into the housing system in the first place. I ain't mad at that tbh. If people want non monetized games they should probably not play games from large corporations.
The VAST majority of Housing items are (and will continue to be) earnable in-game. Only a small fraction is available for purchase from the shop. Comparing this number against collectibles such as mounts is a good metric here, with more than a thousand mounts earnable in-game and only a few dozen from the shop."
Am I the only one really tired of all the micro transactions? To the point that I've canceled my sub and quit the game. I've been a big collector since I started playing. I'm talking 1232 mounts. 51k achie points etc. But the amount of bundles mounts and overall micro transactions has gone through the roof in this game. It used to be that a mount would be added every year or two. Then it became every half a year. Now it feels like every two weeks there's a different micro transaction being added. For a subscription game it's getting ridiculous
Yeah well if you’re a “collector” then you already fell right into their trap of adding pointless things to collect endlessly. The micro transactions don’t bother me cause I don’t need to buy any of them and don’t care about the things I don’t have. I just play the game cause the gameplay is fun for me
i have a hard time believe someone dedicated enough to get 51 fucking achiev points would quit over a store mount this is the most ridiculous lie ive ever read here.
The transactions are purely cosmetical it really doesn't matter nobody's asking for your mount before entering a raid/dj/arena. This is just a little preorder bonus because the company owns multiple franchises and players overlap you don't have to do anything.
Here's my character page if you don't believe me. I play for the collection/cosmetic aspects of the game. I don't care about gear or stuff like that. And it's not just store mounts.
FOMO stuff has gotten worse and worse as well. Too many seasonal stuff.
Yes and it's not just seasonal stuff it's bi-monthly shop items now and tons of promos. MoP classic bundle, BC anniversary bundle it's exhausting. $50 for a mouse key that includes in game collectibles...come on now.
I just have 1,000 mounts but being a collector in this game has gotten awful. I avoid 95% of the cash shop items.
Yeah exactly what I'm saying. People who don't care about collecting can't really understand how frustrating it has gotten. They really need to pump the breaks.
You're the one hurting yourself. You bought tons of completely optional mounts. I guarantee you don't even use them anymore or care about them, and they aren't used outside of your random mount button.
Yet you're the one telling them it's OK because you keep on buying everything they sell.
You have 1232 mounts. I guarantee you not a single store mount released in the past 10 years is one you care about or even use outside of a summon random macro.
Almost all have been obtained by gold exchange but you're right. It still supports the company. It used to be manageable though to just farm the gold and get the odd mount/bundle. Now it feels like every two weeks they are releasing a new one. The only thing I can really do about it is unsub and write the reason why I guess.
Only if the chess board works. Like legit if I could sit down and play a game of chess in my house with a buddy they I'll buy it otherwise get bent Blizz, make more interactive things before trying to milk housing for money
Odds are, but hey who knows, I haven't looked into it at all but blizz hasn't done enough to earn back the trust. Housing is. Good step but there's a ways to go
If it's a functional chessboard, awesome. However, the chessboard has been set up wrong, thus it's unplayable. A1 should be black, not white as is shown in the promotion. If they fix this i'll buy, otherwise ...
The way they and other companies have so easily trained people that they aren't entitled to anything in a sub based game where you buy an expansion every 2 years is just sad.
Can someone explain to me why when I buy the blue decor items off the Lemix vendor the storage count is just stuck at 1??? It's like I hadn't bought it at all but its using my bronze.
This was expected and for the more Diablo-y items, sure, they'd look out of place in someone's house anyway, and it's just a little something extra for the fans of Diablo, but a chess set??? come on, I know the pieces are diablo themed, but to recreate that in game would use SO many furniture pieces so having it as a single item???
We can't avoid premium/shop items it's been said/shown a thousand times with blizzard, but something like that, that can't be replicated but would be wanted is a little mean spirited
Did anyone actually get these items yet? I bought the Ultimate edition twice, once on steam and once on Battle.net. I still don't have the items in WoW. Not in my inventory, mail, or decor collection.
I want that chess set but I don’t want the Diablo expansion
It even say "functional chess board". Sounds like you can actually play with it.
They've said a lot that it probably won't happen, granted housing was in the same boat
The big issue is Hearthstone isn't compatible with WoW, they'd have to basically rewrite the entire game in engine
If they put triple triad as a playable board I would sub to both WOW and FFXIV at the same time to make it happen.
1000% I freaking love triple triad. Man if you could visit the gold saucer from wow that would be amazing.
Yo dawg. We heard you like games, so we put games inside your games.
Exactly. Xzibit would be proud
Pet battles are nice for this. Now I am wondering if folks even duel each other.
I dont even play Hearthstone and I think this would be incredible. Love this idea.
Back in wotlj we had an addon, it had chess, connect 4, backgammon, poker and some other games in it. This has caused many wipes in ICC :D.
I would love to have Hearthstone inside WoW with the cards being loot from all over the game.
Could just be a click thing
I’d guess that’s what it is. If you look in your housing decor catalog, there’s a tab that is labeled as “functional.” In mine, I can see my cooking stoves that I can use to cook and a piece from the legion mage class hall that transforms you click on it.
Well could be a full chess game or it plays itself. Dunno until it’s in
"Functional" could just mean you can swap between two states tbf, like pieces/no pieces
I'd be surprised if they made actual chess
Maybe it will open up an in-game browser window to chess.com
Freaking dammit, I want that set so damn bad but I have not enjoyed D4 and I’ve put more money into it than it deserves. I wish they would just sell the items separately. I’d toss them a few bucks for it but I cannot justify the cost for the expansion.
"functional" at in house devolopment teams one try
Should've been a drop from karazhan chest boss
Looks almost exactly like the chess board there too (with the border design) seems like they planned to then thought “what if we put this in the d4 xpac instead? “
It genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if they eventually found their way over to the store in some capacity.
Doubt that, they didn't bring exclusive Diablo 4 mounts
they did with diablo 3s mount so maybe in the far far future lol
Y they did do that though amalgam something
Honestly best case scenario even if hearth steel sucks
What the fuck I want the chess set so bad
I built a Faction themed one in my house using dyed tables and various knick knacks as pieces. The Elekk and Raptor plushies make great looking pawns. I've still need some better pieces for the Bishops and knights. But hoping for more options later
Only if it actually works and I can play chess on it with other players.
That’s by design
Same, I want that chess board but fuck. 50$ for some decor is a hard sell.
The chessboard isn't set up correctly. For each player, the bottom left square needs to be black, not white.
More importantly, the chess set should be set up the other way so that the buttressed pieces on the sides aren't getting in the way of the players.
That's where the players squat when they play
"Who the fuck cares, you going to pre-order the game or not?" - Activision Blizzard.
For me, the main improvement in all of it was definitely the very first loot reborn stuff, which it's possible you actually played with if you went in after may. edit : I wrote a lot more than I realised...
I appreciate it, though! It convinced me to give the game another try so thank you for being so thorough.
Hey, if you have gamepass still it only costs some time I guess!
They can make it as fun as is humanly possible but that doesn't remove the constant nagging for more money, unfortunately.
Probably yeah..
Literally unplayable
obviously its a peon war board since blizzard doesn't want to pay royalties to john chess
i feel like this should be higher up
That's just the Azeroth version of chess, silly
Do we get a new Diablo event as well?
Nothing announced regarding WoW other than this
Maybe nearer launch?
If anything, it would probably be on the anniversary of D4's release
Yeah we already had a diablo event a few months ago, doubt there'll be another that soon
Well, this gives me an idea.
Gonna make a giant chess board and see if I can get a bunch of guildies to play as the pieces.
Omg like the kara event! If you didn't want to use players, you could have 2 players compete with the housing owner as the board mover in edit mode moving pieces in real time. Screw the promo this is entirely possible without having a pre-set board.
Connect 4 coming to my house soon.
If you do, you should stream it. I would watch!
I’m curious why people expected any different when they’ve been doing tie ins to other games since at least wotlk as far as I recall? Or cata?
[deleted]
d4,d3,wc3
So three so far i think
People are big babies.
Ultimately it falls on enough players to not buy this stuff
These items will be in like a third of all houses if history is anything to go off of. The people have spoken loudly and repeatedly its beating a very dead horse for sure.
An armored horse.
dont blame the users, they are being coerced by malicious, unethical business practices.
Fuck "blizzard" (activision wearing a blizzard skin-suit)
Brother.
They're owned by Microsoft now.
Players enable them
Seriously, like, how hard is it to not buy things?
[deleted]

I've had the expansion for like half an hour and no I don't have them in game yet.
same..... its literally the only reason i got that shit lol.....
Edit: downvoting is a wild take considering its a series thats been shit since 3 came out lol. stay mad i guess)
Can you please update when you get it? I finish work in 6 hours and plan on buyin it
Pre-ordered it and I still didn't get the items either.
Blizzard couldn't pay me to preorder a Diablo 4 expansion.
That's fine. That's a little bonus for the people who play both WoW and D4. They've been doing tie-ins like this for over a decade, idk why people get up in arms over it.
3 years for a fucking Loot Filter.
Path of exile 1 gives me more content every 3-4 months for free.
You are a redditor and you play PoE, you are not the target demographic of Diablo 4.
You’re right, the target demographic of Diablo 4 are Blizzard fans, not ARPG fans.
Hell, PoE2 gives you more content than that for half of a D4 expansion price and the game is still in early access (and will be free when it launches)
Stash tabs aren't going to sell themselves
And they deserve that money
Really? It’s probably my favourite of the Diablo games. In terms of the atmosphere, especially sound design I thought they killed it. I liked the story too, even if it ended up on kind of a cliffhanger going into the first expansion.

Seriously, last one was bunk. Fun campaign but not worth $70
$40 this time
it was 40 last time too.
Uhh VoH was 40$ too. Unless blizz mind-controlled you into buying the pricier version of the expansion.
Good thing it’s 39,99
They could give me $39.99 and i still wouldn't do it.
Okay? Then don’t?
last one was awful
Not buying Diablo but man that chess set is nice
Won't be getting those I guess lol.
How can I get these without buying the expansion? I don't own Diablo 4
That’s the neat part, you can’t
That chess set is very nice.
Looks nice but it’s not set properly, white square should be bottom right
I feel like WoW housing gave the OCD people too much power.
Haha, that’s not ocd that’s a pretty major blunder in chess! It’s not even an aesthetics thing, white on the right + queen on her color is basic board setup
Maybe chess is different on Azeroth.
It's not so much OCD as it is right and wrong. It is wrong.
Tell me you know nothing about chess while telling me you know nothing about chess.
They're not going to trick me with the fomo
I don’t care who you send, I’m not playing Diablo.
or buying
I think people really need to get away from the mindset that they should be able to have everything to be honest.
I think that people should stop trying to defend corporations doing their best to nickle, dime people if money with hilarious amounts of fomo.
Corporations. Are. Not. Your. Friends.
That doesn't change what he said.
People don't need to own EVERY SINGLE THING IN EXISTENCE EVER.
I find that chest/rug to be god awful and ugly, so I'm not missing out.
Oh no, you can't get a chess set right now! Your house will be just like it was yesterday! Completely unplayable!
The D4 chess set isn't the only chess set in the WoW housing catalogue. If you actually cared about chess sets, you would have known this.
Where is the other one exactly? Because clearly my game is bugged and isn't showing it.
Jfc it’s a promotional tie in. Blizz has been doing it since the game came out. Who the fuck cares
So you disagree with them advising "Don't spend $40 just to get a few housing decor items"?
Are you sure you aren't the one defending corporations?
Remind me again why people wanting this without preordering means they want everything?
Because there are literally 2197 other items to collect inside WoW without purchasing the Diablo 4 expansion. They have absolutely no right to complain until they run out of things to collect from WoW gameplay.
"You don't need everything" "I don't want everything, I just want this one item" "Go collect everything else first before you complain about that"
Pick a lane my guy.
So it begins
i mean its the same thing as pre ordering the collector's edition for the mount and extra art work book.
The "thing" beginning here was the obvious goal of blizzard to start selling house stuff for yet another form of mtx in our pay to own, pay to play game with 7 other ways to pay more money.
I assume that's what he meant at least
Yes but that was obvious wasn't it? They are a for profit company and that's probably at least partly why they put that much effort into the housing system in the first place. I ain't mad at that tbh. If people want non monetized games they should probably not play games from large corporations.
Not only obvious it was literally said BY THE TEAM.
https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24242736/developer-insight-hearthsteel-virtual-currency-and-housing-in-midnight
"
this post came out over a month ago.
And so far, that statement is ringing true.
98% of stuff is free and earnable in game, like 2% isn't.
There are over 2200 items earned in-game in midnight, and only about 20 marked for the shop.
Not even close to 2% and people are still complaining, it's pretty sad.
I mean, the not caring about yet another way to monetize a system is entirely why we have so many monetized systems in the first place.
What's new?
I just play the game cause the gameplay is fun for me
No one is forcing you to buy it, you can literally ignore it.
Would it be better if that kind of stuff was earnable in game? Of course, but that's not the world we live in.
i have a hard time believe someone dedicated enough to get 51 fucking achiev points would quit over a store mount this is the most ridiculous lie ive ever read here.

That’s cool and all but I just want night elf stuff
That would be a terrible rug. Anybody need their feet scalped?
I know they kept the chessboard out for something like this 😔
I’m not edge lord enough for Diablo 4.
...>.> B-But I don't even play Diablo. . . I just want the Chest set.
Only if the chess board works. Like legit if I could sit down and play a game of chess in my house with a buddy they I'll buy it otherwise get bent Blizz, make more interactive things before trying to milk housing for money
They did say "functional chessboard" in the description but I'm willing to bet it just plays an animation
Think of it as a challenge for an experienced chess player.
I like to play Diablo, so this is a nice plus. The Mephisto rug looks nice.
Cant I just buy this for 10€ once Diablo 4 is out? (Or get it in the trading post?)
It's cross promo. Not the first time not the last time this kinda thing will happen and I kinda don't care really.
Thing is I don't wanna play Diablo 4. I'm not gonnna play Diablo 4. Tried it. Not for me. And I'm not gonna pay 40€ for 3 housing items.
I was gonna buy it regardless, this is a big plus
Same this will look sick in my house and I’ll have fun playing a paladin in D4, double W
How far we have strayed as a gaming community/industry. Everything in WoW should be earnable in WoW. But that's unthinkable these days.
You mean like all of the other promotional tie in items they’ve had since like 2008?
This isn’t new.
Yes, exactly.
The way they and other companies have so easily trained people that they aren't entitled to anything in a sub based game where you buy an expansion every 2 years is just sad.
If the store didn't exist, the subscription price would be over $30/month thanks to inflation.
They're completely optional pixels and less than 0.5% of what's earnable in-game. And they prevent the sub price from rising with inflation.
I, personally, am happy that addicts and whales are paying that extra $15/month for me and receive zero gameplay benefit in return.
I mean the sub price is supposed to pay for hosting the live game, which has gotten tremendously cheaper for Blizz over the years.
Expansion prices are supposed to pay salaries. That's why they went up $10 a few expansions ago - inflation, as you said.
Given that Blizzard continues to turn a large profit I think your take is naive.
Seriously. People are so easily manipulated :/
Im trying to care about housing but its not happening
Are we finally killing Diablo in this one? I'm not playing till the whole story is out honestly
Damn gotta get my auction house mount first
lol u need to buy the base game and the expansion. Lame.
I mean the expansion would be pretty useless without the game
That rug looks like a skinned Kul Tiran feral druid.
Can someone explain to me why when I buy the blue decor items off the Lemix vendor the storage count is just stuck at 1??? It's like I hadn't bought it at all but its using my bronze.
If we want 10 of each do we have to buy the expansion 10 times?
Disgusting! I hate it!
It's not surprising, it's not new, but that doesn't mean people should accept or like it!
Totally off topic, but are we going to be able to acquire a centaur rug for our homes? Just asking for a friend, of course :p
I want a Tauren hide rug.
They added that chess board after seeing the video of the person building it with 1000 decor materials
It kinda sucks that they couldn't even wait until the feature is fully released.
Like yeah we knew greed played a role with the whole hearthsteel thing but this goes on top of that.
Boy they’re really tossing fomo into the mix out of desperation eh? People left for epoch and POE; stop beating a dead mephisto Blizz.
Nope.
the rug is really fucking funny
Nope. From what I understand they will show up on the first toon you log into starting TOMORROW(12/13/25) per a blue post
You're awesome, thank you!
Yeah fuck all that
Oh so it begins
Sure are a lot of shills in the comments lol.
I really like the rug. Haha. But…pre-order diablo expac to get it? Ugh…
Aaaaaand there it is
Other blizzard games had items/rewards in different games on pre-order like hearthstone cards, banners, wow pets and mounts.
Why is decor any different when Midnight Preorder had decor in it?
