So there's this botanist, and get this, he turned himself into a plant. He's plant Tel'arm.

What can I say? He took his job … SERIOUSLY

I love this dumb not even a joke every time I see it.

    parent root
    129 points brok3nh3lix

This line is delivered like she is about to drop a pun or joke, but then is just flat.

    parent root
    17 points SaebraK

I think the problem comes from whomever did the subtitles. There is a night blooming cactus called a Cereus. Had they used that spelling it would have been great wordplay.

    parent root
    37 points Euryleia

That's called deadpan delivery. To some, that makes it even funnier!

    parent root
    13 points c0gwheel

Except this is the exact opposite of deadpan delivery. Deadpan is when you deliver an actually funny punchline without any emphasis at all, often to the point that it takes a bit for the audience to recognize the joke. The line in question, and the voice acting of it, is delivering a non-punchline with all the typical indications of a punchline. The delayed reaction in this case is confusion, since we can't figure out what the joke was supposed to be.

    parent root
    6 points Euryleia

What did the farmer say when he lost his tractor?

    "Where's my tractor?"

    parent root
    1 points ElGatoDeFuegoVerde

    It's an anti-joke, not a deadpan.

Deadpan would be how most of the jokes in Airplane! sound.

    parent root

Agreed, the “what can I say?” is delivered pretty weirdly

I can't remember which of these lines are actually from the show (Rick and Morty) and which are memes from after the fact, but I'm pretty sure there's a line something like

The other favorite line in Lemix is in Blackrook Hold when the voiceover says "Kurtalos, they come for you". and Kurtalos answers, wryly and apathetically, "They do".

Not sure why but the the matter-of-fact attitude always makes me chuckle.

    parent

Voice acting was kinda all over the place in Legion. I forget the name, but the dungeon with Ebonhorn and Dargrul was particularly weird. All of Ebonhorn's lines felt weirdly out of place.

I'm betting money there will be a Void themed botanist in Midnight. At this point it's a tradition to have an evil gardener in every elf focused expansion.

    parent root

    Mechagnomes also had a gardener/botanist.

LOOKS LIKE YOU COULD USE A TRIM!

    parent root
  • 28 points lameguy13

I’m still not entirely sure why we had to kill him. Like? His garden isn’t exactly in between the Arcway entrance we used and the Nighthold. Was he putting up some kind of barrier? Did we assume if we attacked Elisande, he’d try to step in?

All of the bosses in order make sense except for Tel’arm and Etraus. Why did we HAVE to kill the palace gardener and the astronomy guy?

    parent
    40 points Perrg

I agree about Tel'arn but Etraeus always thought himself superior to everyone and Thalyssra enjoyed seeing him humbled. That makes it worth it.

Or did, until I learned Thalyssra didn't invite us to her wedding after all we did.

    parent root
    23 points lameguy13

Thalyssra probably thought, “We don’t NEED to kill this guy. But he’s kind of a dick, so I won’t reign in my murder hobos.”

    parent root
    8 points Perrg

As adventurers, any kind of restraint leaves our mind the moment something has loot.

    parent root
    16 points Zeaket

All of the bosses in order make sense except for Tel’arm and Etraus. Why did we HAVE to kill the palace gardener and the astronomy guy?

etraeus: his time scrying the stars led him to planets outside our knowledge - as per the dungeon journal, while empowered by nightwell he was able to "draw upon the essence of those worlds to amplify his own powers".

so one, i think it can be assumed he would be very resistant to sacrificing this power and losing the nightwell, which was thalyssra's plan. we'd probably end up fighting him anyways.

two, we see in the fight he gains fel energy and void energy, even pulling creatures from the void into the fight. i think there's a pretty likely chance his hubris (as thalyssra mentioned, he thought himself better than everyone) would lead to him drawing power (or beings) he cannot control and then we would need to fight him anyways.

    tel'arn: bro was crazy

    parent root
    8 points psychobatshitskank

Another point about Etraeus, he has this dialogue in the Court of Stars (he has a small chance to spawn during the masquerade section):

The Burning Legion is entirely focused on the task at hand. They need someone with my vision to guide their future.

So many worlds must be out there, needing to be purged. Who better than me to locate them?

Sargeras himself shall recognize my genius. Will his power expand my mind? Or will my mind expand his power?

    parent root
    3 points Zeaket

that's actually really cool, never seen that happen

    parent root
    15 points emprisedulion

When you find Etraeus in the Court of Stars he talks about how theres no one better suited than him to find worlds for the legion to purge.

So it was probably a good idea to take him out!

    parent root
    3 points NobodyImportant13

This. Etareus was a true believer in aiding the legion. He was fully onboard and had to be put down.

Garrosh has absolutely said bitch before. I think he called Sylvanas that during the Silverpine campaign.

Sylvanas also calls Arthas as a son of a bitch in Warcraft 3 after shooting him with a poisoned arrow. Idk if they kept it in Reforged but I’m not there yet.

    parent root
    3 points livesinacabin

    "Watch your clever mouth, bitch."

With a short pause before the last word, which is said with extra oomph. I can still hear it in my mind.

    parent root
    5 points An_Arrogant_Ass

I never understood why shit is considered to be worse than bitch or bastard. One is typically used as an exclamation, while the others are direct attacks against someone's character or even their personhood.

    parent root
    2 points fiction8

Many expletives are attacks on someone's character, what makes some of them "slurs" is if they imply that simply belonging to a group is a negative or confers negative characteristics.

Especially groups defined by immutable characteristics like outward appearance, heritage, or gender.

    parent root
    2 points An_Arrogant_Ass

Absolutely, it makes sense for them to be less than a slur but still seems odd that they are less than "shit" which most of the time could be used interchangeably with "damn" and at it's worse is attacking the functionality or quality of something.

TBF there's the off chance they just replace the VA like they did with Nozdormu's, assuming they want to keep Khadgar around enough anyways.

    parent root

For reforged they replaced all the russian unit voice lines for absolutely no reason (it was so bad it was hilarious). They have no problem changing VA when it's useful for sure.
