I think the problem comes from whomever did the subtitles. There is a night blooming cactus called a Cereus. Had they used that spelling it would have been great wordplay.
Except this is the exact opposite of deadpan delivery. Deadpan is when you deliver an actually funny punchline without any emphasis at all, often to the point that it takes a bit for the audience to recognize the joke. The line in question, and the voice acting of it, is delivering a non-punchline with all the typical indications of a punchline. The delayed reaction in this case is confusion, since we can't figure out what the joke was supposed to be.
I can't remember which of these lines are actually from the show (Rick and Morty) and which are memes from after the fact, but I'm pretty sure there's a line something like
So there's this scientist, and he turned himself into a pickle. He's Pickle Rick!
Along with lines similar to the ones in the image.
The other favorite line in Lemix is in Blackrook Hold when the voiceover says "Kurtalos, they come for you". and Kurtalos answers, wryly and apathetically, "They do".
Not sure why but the the matter-of-fact attitude always makes me chuckle.
Voice acting was kinda all over the place in Legion. I forget the name, but the dungeon with Ebonhorn and Dargrul was particularly weird. All of Ebonhorn's lines felt weirdly out of place.
Boy, if I had a nickel for every time there was a boss who was a gardener in wow, I would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice
I'm betting money there will be a Void themed botanist in Midnight. At this point it's a tradition to have an evil gardener in every elf focused expansion.
I’m still not entirely sure why we had to kill him. Like? His garden isn’t exactly in between the Arcway entrance we used and the Nighthold. Was he putting up some kind of barrier? Did we assume if we attacked Elisande, he’d try to step in?
All of the bosses in order make sense except for Tel’arm and Etraus. Why did we HAVE to kill the palace gardener and the astronomy guy?

etraeus: his time scrying the stars led him to planets outside our knowledge - as per the dungeon journal, while empowered by nightwell he was able to "draw upon the essence of those worlds to amplify his own powers".
so one, i think it can be assumed he would be very resistant to sacrificing this power and losing the nightwell, which was thalyssra's plan. we'd probably end up fighting him anyways.
two, we see in the fight he gains fel energy and void energy, even pulling creatures from the void into the fight. i think there's a pretty likely chance his hubris (as thalyssra mentioned, he thought himself better than everyone) would lead to him drawing power (or beings) he cannot control and then we would need to fight him anyways.
One of my favorite pieces of dialogue. There was a time when I was running every week on multiple characters long before Remix and it used to bug me every time but now I love it
Sylvanas also calls Arthas as a son of a bitch in Warcraft 3 after shooting him with a poisoned arrow. Idk if they kept it in Reforged but I’m not there yet.
I never understood why shit is considered to be worse than bitch or bastard. One is typically used as an exclamation, while the others are direct attacks against someone's character or even their personhood.
Many expletives are attacks on someone's character, what makes some of them "slurs" is if they imply that simply belonging to a group is a negative or confers negative characteristics.
Especially groups defined by immutable characteristics like outward appearance, heritage, or gender.
Absolutely, it makes sense for them to be less than a slur but still seems odd that they are less than "shit" which most of the time could be used interchangeably with "damn" and at it's worse is attacking the functionality or quality of something.
Maybe the age rating allowed for 1 swear word in the game, and they removed it from Garrosh so they could place another swear word elsewhere. We just gotta find where...
For reforged they replaced all the russian unit voice lines for absolutely no reason (it was so bad it was hilarious). They have no problem changing VA when it's useful for sure.
What can I say? He took his job … SERIOUSLY
🤣🤣🤣
I love this dumb not even a joke every time I see it.
This line is delivered like she is about to drop a pun or joke, but then is just flat.
I think the problem comes from whomever did the subtitles. There is a night blooming cactus called a Cereus. Had they used that spelling it would have been great wordplay.
That's called deadpan delivery. To some, that makes it even funnier!

What did the farmer say when he lost his tractor?
"Where's my tractor?"
It's an anti-joke, not a deadpan.
Deadpan would be how most of the jokes in Airplane! sound.
Agreed, the “what can I say?” is delivered pretty weirdly
What can I say? His job grew on him
She wasn’t even hiding it at that point cause she knew there was more crazier folks in the palace than him
My head canon is that she was trying to do a Dadgar joke, but failed miserably.
She's just trying to reintegrate back into society.
He was quite cereal about his job
🙂
🙂<🕶
😎 YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
god this is old
Ive never seen emojies in this depiction.
Thank you for this.
No, it's "SEEDIOUSLY" I'm disappointed they missed the chance to use a pun.
Wait, is Tel’arm some sort of pun?
I don't mean Tel'arm you, but...
“He’s plant Tel’arm” in the title doesn’t make any sense as “he’s plant to alarm”, I’m still sooooo confused
I can't remember which of these lines are actually from the show (Rick and Morty) and which are memes from after the fact, but I'm pretty sure there's a line something like

Pickle Rick, 🅱️erhaps
Pickle rick - August 6, 2017
Nighthold - January 17, 2017
No, the original lines aren't related. This meme is, of course.
Idk why this is throwing me off. So weird to think about Szechuan and pickle rick overlapping with legion and wod
2017? wtf it was like a couple of years ago
help
But does the name/word “Tel’arm” itself have any sort of pun/reference value, or is it just “this guy turned himself into a thing”?
Pickle Brick was my nickname in high school
Reference to this, maybe? (audio)
Not sure when it was made but I saved it in 2020. lol

Back when Legion was current a coworker of mine & I used to quote this back and forth at each other with a little more flair
“They doooo”
Voice acting was kinda all over the place in Legion. I forget the name, but the dungeon with Ebonhorn and Dargrul was particularly weird. All of Ebonhorn's lines felt weirdly out of place.
"No, I... won't be doing that." 😏😏
"I will find my own way and rejoin you on the other side 🗿"
don't even get me started on the world quest tauren lady in highmountain, her delivery sounds like it came straight out of oblivion
Lol yeah that too
Edit: also honorable mention to pretty much every single line from Malfurion in Darkheart thicket.
/u/Subprime_Lender I am so happy I get to be the person to introduce you to this.

Together we shall defeat them Latosius
Racencrest!

Mechagnomes also had a gardener/botanist.
Mechagnome Druids when???
Unironically yes.
Shapeshifting via the power of nanomachines.
Or... Hear me out... They could be transformers.
Both are also mana addicted elves working for an once good but now evil monarch we are trying to overthrow because they joined the Legion.
Really a shocking amount of similarities between the two, so I feel like it had to be a somewhat intentional callback.
Pretty sure there's more than two.
lol, I mean yeah it is kinda niche but in a world with canonical plant-wizards it’s not super surprising
Who is the other one?
Not sure if it's who OP is thinking of, but Freywinn should probably count.
I'm not OP, but isn't there a gardener guy in Operation Mechagon? Well, kind of. It's a mechanical garden.
LOOKS LIKE YOU COULD USE A TRIM!
I agree about Tel'arn but Etraeus always thought himself superior to everyone and Thalyssra enjoyed seeing him humbled. That makes it worth it.
Or did, until I learned Thalyssra didn't invite us to her wedding after all we did.
Thalyssra probably thought, “We don’t NEED to kill this guy. But he’s kind of a dick, so I won’t reign in my murder hobos.”
As adventurers, any kind of restraint leaves our mind the moment something has loot.
etraeus: his time scrying the stars led him to planets outside our knowledge - as per the dungeon journal, while empowered by nightwell he was able to "draw upon the essence of those worlds to amplify his own powers".

tel'arn: bro was crazy
Another point about Etraeus, he has this dialogue in the Court of Stars (he has a small chance to spawn during the masquerade section):
that's actually really cool, never seen that happen
When you find Etraeus in the Court of Stars he talks about how theres no one better suited than him to find worlds for the legion to purge.
So it was probably a good idea to take him out!
This. Etareus was a true believer in aiding the legion. He was fully onboard and had to be put down.
Khadgar looks so hungover.
Dude’s been greening out on edibles since they landed in Outland.
he must have sobered up and shaved that beard off
Maybe he is aware of how many times hes repeated this
Everytime I go through that raid I think this I'm glad I'm not the only one
One of my favorite pieces of dialogue. There was a time when I was running every week on multiple characters long before Remix and it used to bug me every time but now I love it
I miss Khadgar
If garrosh cant say bitch aint no way they would ever have the balls to write the word shit
Yes, it's an edit. In-game, she dryly says "He took his work seriously."
Tbh the real thing is much funnier than the edited joke.
Garrosh has absolutely said bitch before. I think he called Sylvanas that during the Silverpine campaign.
She did, but they removed it which is what the comment is referring to.
What?! That line was iconic!
Yeah, it's a shame :(
Sylvanas also calls Arthas as a son of a bitch in Warcraft 3 after shooting him with a poisoned arrow. Idk if they kept it in Reforged but I’m not there yet.
"Watch your clever mouth, bitch."
With a short pause before the last word, which is said with extra oomph. I can still hear it in my mind.
I never understood why shit is considered to be worse than bitch or bastard. One is typically used as an exclamation, while the others are direct attacks against someone's character or even their personhood.

I dont think they have a problem with curseing i think it was calling a female a bitch.

The great meme reset is upon us!
Imagining a second image for the astronomer guy where she goes "RIPBOZO PACKWATCH" cuz that's basically what happens, lol.
I love this.
I also love my head cannon; that boss is a suramar elfs attempt at druidism.... too much science compared to the other races.
🐌OH MY GOD this fkin edit make me almost piss my shell
And all that just so that he doesn't have to go to therapy.
I have to ask, is this in the game ? I can't tell if it's an edit because it sounds like something Blizzard would put in the game.
It's an edit. The joke is a reference to pickle rick
I know what it's referencing. I just wanted to know if it's in the game because I think it's funny and I wish it was.
They really need to kill Khadgar.
TWW implied that they won't do anything else with Khadgar. (the fact that Khadgar was in TWW at all was a surprise since his VA retired)
TBF there's the off chance they just replace the VA like they did with Nozdormu's, assuming they want to keep Khadgar around enough anyways.
For reforged they replaced all the russian unit voice lines for absolutely no reason (it was so bad it was hilarious). They have no problem changing VA when it's useful for sure.
