• "Clearing landmines" is a funny euphemism for "blowing themselves up" but I guess whatever jumpstarts your nuclear program.

North Korea has existed for many years but hasn’t been in an actual war for half a century. I wonder how well they will be able to control the narrative if their sons and daughters return in shreds and body bags. Will the people really buy dear leaders propaganda?

People disappear en masse on the regular in NK. Anyone asking questions is next.

There are certainly no bodies being returned. Russia does not care much for their own losses, they sure as hell aren’t shipping partial corpses back to a country that was glad to sell them in first place.

That's cute that you think they'll return in shreds and bodybags. They're lucky if they get buried somewhere in the Donbass. Their relatives are told they died heroically doing service for Kim.

More likely, they simply rot in the elements and are defleshed by whatever scavengers find the corpse.

If you have doubts over how deep the propaganda has a hold of these people look up the footage of when Kim il-song died. Those are genuine tears and that was already 30 years ago so another generation completely grew up in that system without ever being exposed to an alternative

Its Part of the strategy to hold power. NK has a Surplus of Young men, which tends to lead to uprisings, especially if Food is scarce. But they cant rebel if they Are dead

Those body bags aren't going home. The people of NK know better than to ask questions.

Yeah….i don’t think they’re coming back. And by all accounts, they were much bolder and more effective in combat scenarios than the Russians sacrificing them.

they're the only army engaged in the Ukraine war that doesn't have a single soldier or commander who has ever fought in any other war.

Bro.. you need to read up o  N korea

They have punishments where they kill you and your entire family and entire generations for standing in the way of the regime

Its more likely that the US becomes a liberal socialist democracy utopia then  N Koreans standing up to its dictator

So I sent wave after wave of my own men.

  • Why do I get the feeling that the Russians just got the North Koreans to walk over minefields.

    same feeling here too

Cause they did it before and it works. Demining equipment is expensive and North Koreans are unlimited and free

Tbf, the soldier hugged in the picture must think it too...doesn't seem happy

You're misreading it then. That is, "The godking emperor who can ride unicorns is hugging me, I'm truly blessed and this is an absolute joy to the point of tears," expression.

If you're confused, look at the man smiling looking proudly on as he's clapping that his men are getting to meet their leader and that they've met or exceeded all expectations.

Just because you personally dislike their leader or have a different viewpoint doesn't mean that they don't adore him and are honored.

Edit: They walked through minefields for him and came back. They didn't desert or run away.

Also, it's really unfortunate that reddit clips the bottom part off showing he's in a wheelchair.

While I don’t doubt that some in that country have sincere adoration for Dear Leader, it’s also probably worth mentioning that any who did surrender or run probably had their entire family put into a concentration camp, that’ll really motivate you to come back.

And even if they do come back, their fate might not be much much better since they have now been "contaminated" by the outside world.

They didn’t go to Vegas lol, they went to an active warzone in the custody of Russians. The most exposure they got was through a crappy smartphone.

That's not how anything in a totalitarian state works... it doesn't matter if it's true or not. If any of them come back alive, they'll probably be trotted out to receive some made- up medals for a few propaganda spots, then be sent off to the labor camps for "engaging with imperialist media" or something like that. Maybe a couple of them will get lucky and be kept in Pyongyang for show.

Just because you personally dislike their leader or have a different viewpoint doesn't mean that they don't adore him and are honored.

Just because they look like they adore him in a state-sanctioned propaganda photo doesn’t mean they actually do.

Edit: They walked through minefields for him and came back. They didn't desert or run away.

Just because they followed the law doesn’t mean they agree with it. Presumably there are consequences for desertion. In the US deserters are eligible for the death penalty.

The watchers in black are definitely there in the photos ensuring everyone is crying appropriately.

I’m regularly blown away by peoples failure to identify propaganda on this site, but this photo is like a textbook example, practically the platonic ideal of propaganda.

He's in a wheelchair? Did he lose his legs to a landmine? No wonder he is crying.

There's another picture where you can see rows of them in wheel chairs. It pays to glance at the article I guess.

If that degenerate potato was hugging me, I also would not be too happy.

Why would it be some other way?

probably but north korea has a vested interest in have teams good at clearing landmines, and under fire, if they are ever to get through the DMZ into South Korea.

I actually thought this is what they meant in the title itself.

First thing that came to mind

  • They're getting real-world experience.

Most North Koreans would give an arm and a leg for that opportunity

They're giving it their all, that's for sure.

    Looks incredible on the résumé

  • The very definition of fodder. There must be very deep levels in hell.

The best moment of their lives was getting handed a phone with PornHub loaded up lmao

  • North Korea is more than happy to get rid of a sizable chunk of their fighting age males, just like Russia is. A bunch of unemployed fighting age males sitting around is a good way to get your dictatorship overthrown.

  • Weird way of saying their for the meat grinder.

  • Evil, evil men run the world.

  • When Kim told the soldiers it would be a huge boom for them going to Russia I bet they didn't think he meant it literally.

    Boon?

Boom "A period of sudden economic growth especially one that results in a lot of money being made"

    That’s not used for individuals

I know... It was meant to be a joke and a play on words ... But typical Reddit had other ideas.

  • Ok, so, here is deal. Hold haynds, walk in line to trees. You run away, I shoot.

  • This is well known. There has been many announcements that North Korea sent 20,000 people to clear mines and rebuild houses and infrastructure in Kursk region.

  • Those who came back injured but alive are "lucky" dear leader hugged them. :P

  • Idiots

I mean the likelihood that they had a choice to be sent to Russia in the first place is nil

  • Like lemmings?

  • Outsourced kamikazes

  • That’s so nice of them!

  • every time I see something about about Ukraine it gets a bit more 40k

From blessings weapons and unit symbol to this...

(Next time we would see an average lifespan of 15 hours)

  • Como Ming diria "pule na espada!"

  • It's a shame for these soldiers and their family if they're ill-equipped, but I have another issue with the article.

Kim said it and elaborated on it in a speech. The article in its entirety is about that speech. However, the title uses the word "admits". I think that every reasonable person reading the title will see this as meaning that he was accused and he confessed, either in a press conference, an interview, after international outcry, or some kind of pressure. However, it was a piece of information offered publicly and I see no indication of Kim being pushed in any way to admit it. I don't like the use of spin by such reputable sources. A better word would be "says".

  • Even the Russians aren't that stupid.

  • Have they been in any real ways? Were the generals in the real Korean war?

If the generals were in the Korean War, they’d be in their 90s today.

Actually north korean expeditionary corps were pretty popular during African civil wars in the eighties.

The real war is making sure the medals that go down their legs don’t wack them in the nutsack while they walk behind dear leader writing in their tiny notebooks.

  • the bois knew already, chill bro

  • With hammers?

  • "Congratulations, you're still alive"

  • The hard way?

  • Kim sends its own people to be cannon fodder in exchange for technology to have the upper hand against South Korea and US allies in the Pacific, and be less dependent on China. North Korea winning in all of this right now
