  • Depends heavily on the values you assign to those various categories; werewolves range from Norse ulfheðnar to packs of invulnerable bdsm enthusiasts, Fafnir is going to give different answers than Smaug, who's different to Ao Guang. In order to have any answers, you need to specifically define what those various categories mean in your setting.

I’m sorry… invulnerable WHAT NOW? Please explain please explain!! You e peaked my interest!!

The whole Alpha/Beta/other Greek letters business is reskinned (and poorly depicted) BDSM. Werewolf romances are made of it, and it's leaked out into a great majority of modern werewolf media

  • I imagine much the same, albeit with more internal checks for vampire/werewolf infections.

It's really hard to beat shooting someone with a metal projectile at several times the speed of sound.

Drones would be even more useful against high-value targets because one-man-armies are really just a waste of investment in the modern combat feild.

I seriously cannot see how a Dragon can outspeed an F-35 in any universe, even less so thair Air-to-air cruise missiles.

Giants, again, aren't really a threat; typically, they'll get blasted by artillery before they have a chance to do much. Really, a single dude with an AT weapon should be able to do the trick.

This, military equipment as a force multiplier has reached a level where the power of the controller essentially becomes irrelevant and it's a force equaliser.

One imagines the likely benefit comes from back line stuff. Don’t bother putting a giant on the frontline because he is just a giant target for anything. But use him as a combat engineer on account of him being able to single-handedly sport components of a Bailey Bridge. Use him in a warehouse because he can lift things high up and pack them in.

On the dragon point, similar thing. It can’t stand up to anything but maybe you can use it as a light lift asset. It might have enough strength to carry a 105mm artillery piece or a bunch of supplies in the same manner you would sling load on a helicopter. You can therefore carry additional equipment where necessary without relying on mechanical complexities and logistics, though of course you’re swapping it for pack animal logistics.

But, as you point out, on the frontlines it’s just not a good idea. They’re in a realm where being The Biggest Guy Around doesn’t make you a better warrior. If you’re using them you want to be using them in areas where their actual strengths are of value, and they are not attempting to compete with modern tech.

    Dragon + F15 engine jetpack = kickass

To the "One Man Army" thing, I present

"Army of One Man Army men"

And about the outspeeding planes, in Velthir I did it so Dragons were divinely blessed and buffed, to the point of giving em magic that allowed to shoot out a sort of "Magical Rocket Booster" or "Impulsor" speel through their claws that were hanging and pointing to their backs anyways. That way you have dragons with basically magical Afterburners/Jets able to dogfight jets in even grounds

  • Assuming the lack of magic and that all of these races come about as the result of biology, you’d probably see a lot of bioweapons being developed. Dragons would have to contend with planes but would basically be the equivalent of a large bomber for ground targets. Humans would have to be either the technological or economic powerhouse in order to hold stability in a world where they are not the most dominant species.

I imagine dwarves would develop military weapons and equipment of better quality than most but at high expense. Humans would probably make things pretty much like what we have in real life, but to compare it to dwarves would be like if an AK-47 also had all the high-tech attachments of American weapons while still being functional even if fully submerged or covered in sand/mud.

Giants, goblins, orcs, etc are a toss up on whether or not they’re the intelligent kind or the “me not that kind of orc” type, but I think classically speaking they’d all be the type to crudely reverse engineer the tech or otherwise steal it outright. Xenophobia and tribalist mentalities would keep a lot of them from forming an organized society of demihumans.

Werewolves…wouldn’t change much. In most depictions the subject loses all cognitive reasoning and relies on pure animalistic instinct and it’s strange to see them using weapons and armor. That said, if they’re the silver-only variety then that could make them a strong contender regardless as silver bullets are somewhat expensive to produce.

I think vampires and elves would have a long running feud as the yin and yang of immortal high-class aristocracy, and would be the ones manipulating all the conflict from behind the scenes using a combination of centuries of amassing wealth and just as much time building skills for politics and espionage. Elves are marketed as good and vampires as bad but really they’re more alike than different from a mortal’s perspective. I could see werewolves acting as a third faction here if they were more like the Underworld kind of werewolves, but I guess it really would come down to writers choice for a lot of this.

  • Shadowrun has a magic cyberpunk setting, so it might be a good idea to look there for inspiration.

  • Every this kind of scenes will finally turn into "werewolf/vampire holding guns, giant holding giant guns, dragons holding aircraft guns" or "military soldiers holding magic-guns", instead of actual think the weapon evolution under this situation.

  • Tucker’s Kobolds as proper insurgent/Viet Cong type forces.

  • I made a world like this for a time, Dragons were used as Flying Artillery, witches were weapons manufactorers building arcane weaponry for grunt use and vampires were night-time special ops.

I dropped the world when Trench Crusade came out because it was too similar and it bummed me out

  • Probably a lot more different.

    Surface vague examples:

Why need average tank , if creature is powerful enough to wear equivalent armor and weaponry + has high mobility.

Overall faster development/building due to more effective manpower.

  • So like, WoD and Shadowrun?

  • I imagine most fantasy creatures are just as vulnerable to artillery as humans are.

  • Hey, that's some of my fun, but it's D&D that's reached modern era.

[In mine, industry > magic.  But combining the two gets you the fun now =3]

But really, it's an excuse to have tanks fighting dragons, cause that seems hilariously fun

  • I have something like this, in my Fantasy Alt-History world, the British have a regiment of Wyvern Riders, they've used these riders since before the Normans even invaded, they improved it after the Norman conquered the island and over hundreds of years improved and perfected it. In modern day, Wyverns are bred and trained to carry large crates of ammo, their riders use magic staffs and a rifle, the dragons also have mounted turrets on them

There is also the Avelorian Empire which is a High Elf empire in the Iberian Peninsula that mixed magic with black power creating powerful weapons that destroyed Wood Elves in Canada.

  • My d&d setting is essential this.

Ogre heavy infantry all armored and packing a vulcan chain gun. Half-troll shock troopers that heal from minor wounds. Dragons dogfighting aircraft.

    It's a fun world.
