• Jesus fucking Christ, it is absolutely madness that this is even a conversation we are having.

It's a necessary conversation to have, whether it's uncomfortable or not.

Shackles should only be used on pregnant women when their conduct presents danger to themselves or their baby. Almost everyone agrees on this.

The tricky part is determining where that line is and whether it should be codified.

It's easy to say "shackles should never be used on pregnant women" until you are attacked by one and have to defend yourself while also prioritizing the health and safety of your attacker

In terms of what way? That we should, or shouldn't be, shackling pregnant women?

My take on it is all people must be treated the same, regardless if they are pregnant or not. Can understand being different treatments in terms of healthcare or other food/nutrients during these times as that physically affects both the mother and child during the pregnancy.

Yeah, you're right. No one should be shackled.

Well, then work on getting that going instead of applying the rule to different people based on different circumstances. Since this is the current rule, my argument would be, what about this woman being pregnant changes how she should be treated since before she was pregnant. It's still the same person with the same tendencies and temperament.

    Nice logical fallacy

We used to be a leader in humans rights and progress in the mid 20th century. Now we seem to both be backwards and regressive.
