• Thanks to those mines Recreativo Huelva is the oldest football club in all of Spain. Founded by English workers in 1889. Nowadays the play on the 4th division.

  • From the end of the intro:

The name río tinto means "coloured river" in Spanish, in contrast to most rivers, which are clear. However, "tinto" is also an expression for red wine in Spain, so it is also related to this second meaning.

Maybe it's just me but the wording here seems awkward? And idk about "most rivers" being clear.

  • Ironic that one of the largest polluters in the world is also called Rio Tinto.

The company is named after this river. Their first mines were there.

Ah. Makes sense. I didn’t know they originated from spain. I guess being from that river area may explain their environmental history.

  • It is not clear how much acid drainage is from natural processes and how much has come from mining.

How do we handle that? If they eliminated all of the human-caused damage so only the naturally-occurring damage remains, what then? Leave it? What happens when pollution is natural?

Well we don’t necessarily need to handle it all, and if humans do decide to intervene it would be entirely dependent on what the exact goals are. Completely remove all acid, heavy metals, and other pollutants to make it a fit home for an ecosystem and human use? Reduce or minimize pollutants so that the river doesn’t pose a threat to the surrounding environment and life? Or again, do nothing at all as its been like this for a long time without causing catastrophe. All valid options i suppose.
