This is my 3rd attempt at a straight razor. Forged it from a railroad anchor.

I've never used a straight razor--hell, I haven't shaved in almost 10 years--, so I'm not sure on the exact shape of the tang. Any suggestions on how to improve it?

  • Blade looks great, but that tang is more kamisori, than it is straight razor.

  • Looks good for a first go at making a blade. You might want to ask the straight razor folks over at the Reddit site r/straightrazors

  • Cool attempt! Razor looks really cool. Hopefully you can find the advice to refine it further into a finished product

  • Cool first attempt! The tang is far too long to fit into any scales. You'd need to shorten it enough that you can have the scales at a 90 degree angle from the blade when shaving, if that makes sense. Would highly recommend getting a shave ready straight razor so you know what to aim for in the future. You can also measure the blade width as well as the spine width, then use trigonometry to determine the bevel angle, since that'll be your biggest determinant of comfort when shaving.
