This is not a historical site, but a natural location near a settlement. However, there is human involvement in what you see, and that is the solution and the reason why this is not Kyzylkum.
The solution was that it was the Aralkum Desert, the youngest desert in the world, which was formed on the seabed as a result of the retreat of the Aral Sea. It is the result of an ecological disaster caused by unsustainable water management in the region. The photo was taken in Moynaq, which was once a fishing village and the center of the Aral Sea fishing industry.
If you look at the picture bellow, you can see what a disaster it is, because the current Aral Sea is very far from Moynaq and is now a dead sea with no fish.
