Hi everyone,
A long time ago we had some trouble with creeps who would post pictures of a person in a location and ask where they were to stalk or follow them. After that, we instated a rule that disallowed any person in the picture to make it as clear as possible that would not be allowed on this subreddit.
However, now that the sub is more established and you all are looking out for each other, we want to relax this rule a little bit. So as of now, any picture that includes a crowd with people, or people far away that aren’t recognizable, is allowed. That means:
- No close-up people, no selfies
- No people that are recognizable (no, still no blacking them out)
- Yes crowds (think: cities, beaches)
- Yes they can just happen to be in the background
- Yes people if they’re far away
We will have edge cases that we will evaluate on a case-to-case basis. It would be great if you all can use the report button if there are alarm bells ringing about specific posts, so that we can evaluate them more quickly. Please let us know what you think!
Much love,
Your mod team
Finally we can find Carmen Sandiego.
And Waldo!

Fair point!
And my ex
damn.
Dang for a few moments I forgot that people suck. Thanks for reminder.
This is awesome
Holy shit. Game changer
I'm glad!
It’s a welcome change. I try to take pictures without people in them either way but now if they are allowed to be in the background it will open up way more possibilities when posting
Yes for sure, that's what we're hoping too. It makes it easier and nicer for you guys, and hopefully opens up a new world. I think now that we have a really tight-knit community we can start relaxing that rule (and we might even relax it more if there's a need for it, but we're wary about facial recognition software)
i dont know if this is possible, but since this is a meta post anyway, is there a way to keep the location tag in addition to the “solved” tag so that we can still play along at home even after its been solved. spoiler tags would also help with this, but maybe thats too much change at once 😂
It's not possible unfortunately ☹️
I have another question. The automod (?) is extremely faulty. I posted a picture I took from Lanzarote and it got auto removed because it said “it’s not a picture taken by me” lmao? I was the one who took it, I literally have pictures with me in the same location as well. I texted mods about it at the time and nothing came out of it. Can anyone explain why does automod think that picture isn’t taken by me? It wasn’t a basic photo either of X attraction that many people take a pic of.
Automod isn't faulty, you just didn't pick the flair for the correct continent, and instead marked it as "I don't know where this is". And as we don't allow posts if the OP doesn't know where it is, it got removed 😉
Oh ok, that makes sense. I don’t know why it told me that “I didn’t take the picture” instead of your explanation though! But I get it now 👍🏻
Because we don't want people who don't know the location to just change the flair.
A welcome change for sure! Thank you!
No problem! We're hoping this feels less restrictive and with how tight-knit the community is, that problems will be reported early 🙂
Absolutely! I think the sub will feel more welcoming to new people, because their normal vacation photos which often will contain people, are not longer taken down.
I don't have to magically erase crowds at the beach!? Nice!
So if people are close to the camera, but I blur them out (black dot or whatever) still ok?
No, we still don't allow blacking them out. People must either be a part of a crowd, or not recognisable (without being blacked out), so either their backs or by being farther away.
Ah ok thanks
Still is a fine margin, but as long as the rules are adhered to - it could actually encourage more people to post on the sub.
Hopefully it will open it up more than you think!
Yes, it's great. Thank you and the rest of the mods.
Nice! I've got some shots with people that I wanted to use, but couldn't.
Thanks, love it! Little confused about the rules. Like what if it's a mix of points 2,3,4,5. Which rule will take precedence ? For e.g is this pic https://maps.app.goo.gl/asqDBKTpbJUQuPj77 allowed ?
I would allow that since it's a crowd! We're still finding our footing with this one, so bear with us 🫠
wow, thanks I thought it still wouldn't make it. looking forward to the changes :)
Hopefully this will allow users to post most pictures, but we're still working on defining the exact limits as a mod team since there will be a bunch of edge cases, so bear with us. I've shared your example with the wider team as OK though :)
Very good change
Is posting own hand holding smth (ice cream/beer/flowers) allowed? Like on photo below.

Yes that's fine
I hope the mods say yes, wow getting all hungry now 😁
Mods said YES 🤩
This is good, I have lots of pictures holding either food or a beer, lol
Hi I'm trying to pick an image from one of my trips. Is the goal to figure out the country or something more specific?
The goal is to figure out the location you specify. Could be the exact spot (or nearest to it), name of a lake, mountain, etc
Hi, is there a way I can post a picture without having to give away the continent in the flair? I tried saying “I don’t know where this is” but then my post was removed. To me it defeats the purpose to already tell people the continent…
No, there is not. As it is currently, we require the continent flair.
I’m sorry but that’s a ridiculous rule, and there should be an option to not include the continent. I’ve never called out something like this on Reddit but like, what? It would make it way more fun to play this game…
I honestly don't think 8 hours to reply to commenters is enough. Most of us probably are away from home for more than 8 hours at work. I don't know about you but I don't check Reddit at work, and I don't think that's realistic to expect that to not get banned. I got banned a couple weeks ago because I posted at night, went to bed within a couple hours, didn't have time to browse reddit in the morning, went to work, and didn't look at reddit until I got home. That's like 20 hours. I understand what you're trying to accomplish but I think it's unrealistic to normal working adults.
I think this turns something fun into something too serious. I personally think someone should be allowed at least 24 hours to reply.
