People are so quick to lay blame on family values, politics, economic conditions, anything except what it is: women being thought of as "less than" or accessories to men's egos. The lone fact that women dying horribly at the hands of men is a global issue proves it.
Charles Darwin wrote in his The Descent of Man book that "men attain a higher eminence, in whatever he takes up, than can women—whether requiring deep thought, reason, or imagination, or merely the use of the senses and hands." Apparently, this line of thought was taught in schools and colleges.
…but, somehow, men are excused from using deep thought, reason, imagination, or the use of senses and hands, in an intelligent and thoughtful way. If men are so superior to women in every way, why can’t they control their reckless attraction?

Urgh. While I have long since not have resided in my home country, I do not know how much justice will be enforced upon the 14yo murderer.
Unless things have changed rapidly since I left Malaysia, my mom has not received a cent of child support from my dead-beat-sperm-donor; to the best of my knowledge (aka no child support system in place).
Around 2011/2012 when wearing just shorts + a t-shirt at night walking down residential streets equated to be propositioned (random car slowed down and asked for prices; I was crying at this time for personal reasons whilst walking, mind you).
All this to say that I unfortunately don't believe true justice will be found for this poor teenage girl who had her life ended so swiftly. There's not much in place for women's rights & safety generally - if there are any other Malaysians who can correct me on this, I welcome it as I have been out of the loop for a long ass time now.
We're told that men don't hear compliments enough. There is a reason. The other day, I made a point of complimenting male strangers on little things. Most times, the men were cool. On the last try, another man nearby grew envious and I saw pure hatred in his eyes. His mannerisms changed and he stopped being (professionally) nice to me. I stopped laughing when I noticed the change. Complimenting men can be scary. The man you compliment may not be the one to lash out. I've had this same situation play out more than once. Usually it ends with rudeness such as a door being closed on me; pushing stuff at me instead of handing it to me; reduced customer service; or comments which are uncalled for.

Entitlement. I am sure this isn't a recent phenomenon where a young boy killed another young girl because of rejection.
