Mfs on r/whenthe will see this meme, think "hah, good thing I'm capable of understanding nuance and taking a middle ground instance" then upvote the next post that claims AI is destroying the environment (it isn't).
Yes, I fucking hate AI. It don't change the fact that there are valid use cases.
Yea the argument that ai is destroying the environment is more of a corporate problem and less of an ai problem. There are multiple types of ai you are able to download onto your local computer and use to generate as many images as you like. There is nothing stopping someone using genAI from doing so.
ChatGPT, or rather their parent company, openAI, chose to build all of their data centers within deserts for lower construction costs and property taxes, fully willing to sacrifice much more water for cooling their servers.
Anytime I am brought into the discussion of ai, I do always try to bring both sides up to speed on the fact that environment damage is due to corporate greed, and not the usage of ai (though one could argue that excessive ai usage is the origin of said corporate greed)
What the other guy said + AI genuinely has some decent use cases. Using it for creativity is ass though because... you aren't being creative and are also technically plagiarizing. Furthermore it is fundamentally better, for acquiring knowledge, to not use AI/AI-overview.
AI is ass, I hate it, it ain't going away any time soon, so I hope people learn the nuances of AI and that it gets used more often properly than not.
I see that "500ml of water" statistic get thrown way too often for comfort despite being blatantly false.
The only reason it got to this point in energy use is because all that datacenter is subsidized by big tech. Why do you think ChatGPT is mostly free and barely implementing ads? The solution is so simply to put the brunt of the energy cost of AI onto the consumer (and take out features that force AI onto people, like google overviews), which would decrease AI server usage and therefore energy.
AI can be useful in some tasks (think more like machine learning than genAI) and as long as we can ensure that the tech is being used for the greater good (not taking jobs, but helping with them and lowering hours/raising wages) it will be a net positive for society (I am aware this is a pipe dream). Doesn't change the fact that the current AI craze is stupid and forcing slop technology into everything, at the cost of more energy (but not a lot of energy, also computer memory and water are used) that isn't needed.
AI data centers and water usage. There is something you have a right to be mad about but it’s not the amount of water they’re using. It’s where the data centers are located.
From my expirience 90% of the internet is just falling for "either or" fallacy and making assumptions about other people. We live in a nuanced world but nobody seems to even try to acknowledge it.
Certain trans people and conservatives teaming up for some reason when you say gender is nuanced and people can have complex gender identities which deserve respect
Yes but it's clear throughout that most of the desandre family don't respect the people in the canvas so it makes sense for them to commit a genocide by erasing the canvas and in the other ending I can't fault them writing Alicia to force verso to keep living when grief and the things it makes people do is like the main theme of the game. Honestly I'm glad that they made both endings really bittersweet cause it fits the narrative
Doesn't change the fact that I fucking despise them and I don't like that I'm supposed to sympathize with the Dessendres, fuck the Dessendres. Also, they didn't make both endings bittersweet, they made a good ending and a bad ending and then pretended both were equal.
Literally my situation on a discord server. It was advertised as the unofficial discord of a subreddit where people make fun of unironic nationalists. I became active. The folks on the discord can''t take a joke about their state, same tried arguments, same misinterpretations. A part of me wants to do a breakdown of my experience.
Whenever they have no response they go at my age
mf a guy in his 20s there has some beef with me lmao
I don't hate generative Ai, because it has a lot of potential. I don't go out of my way to use it either, because I think it doesn't belong into the public. I think it should be limited to specific fields, but be highly regulated.
As this video showcases, both sides hate me.
There are times where centrism doesn't work, for example, during a discussion about human rights. That's because human rights are supposed to be equal and universal. This shouldn't be a debate.
The Ai debate is about our technological advancements. In this case, a centered position is possible.
the annoying thing about so much discourse these days is people pretending there's more nuance where there really isn't, and pretending there isn't nuance where there is.
Nuance? Never heard of it. But yeah it’s kinda dead, it’s hard to ever have a conversation with anyone because it’s like they are either retarded or just want to have a mic drop moment and pretend they are smart. That and everyone acts like they have the objectively right opinion about everything. It’s better to just not engage
people would just assume every argument or every situation is the same thing and it gets so annoying, i once saw one of those explaining videos about paradox and one of the "paradoxes" was "the answer is in the middle" and as example for how it's not right "1+1, if one side said 2 and the other said 0 than the turth must be 1 which is wrong"
yeah it would be wrong since you used it in wrong argument, if you used a hammer to plow a field it wouldn't work at all does this means hammer is bad tool? no it means You used the wrong tool for the Job

Don't you know? Internet is the Sith, everything is dealt in absolutes
Stating that the sith only deal in absolutes is actually an absolute. Therefore obi-wan is a sith.

Ai destroys the environment because its continued existence makes me want to nuke the entire planet so life has to start over

Ah, I see now. Protecting your point with post's context, making opposers look stupid. Smart move...

TRUE AS FUCK.
"erm stupid fencesitter" -🤓
They pretend every single debate is like a debate between genocide advocators and non-genocide advocators.
Internet arguments aren't about morality or who's the right
It's about wanting to be correct and right, like in the nursery
AI data centers and water usage. There is something you have a right to be mad about but it’s not the amount of water they’re using. It’s where the data centers are located.

That's basically every environmental argument going back to at least the 90s.
It's just different tribes of monkeys throwing shit at each other while arguing that the electrons will behave as dogma requires.
From my expirience 90% of the internet is just falling for "either or" fallacy and making assumptions about other people. We live in a nuanced world but nobody seems to even try to acknowledge it.
never argue on internet for truth, do it only for shit and giggles

When you talk about E33 in a positive light on Reddit
https://i.redd.it/r2g485vnnu8g1.gif
trust me i get dogpiled for talking about it negatively too(It's a good game but fuck the ending)
What's your issue with the ending I thought that both of them were great
The autonomy of the Canvas individuals isn't respected, it's thrown away in favour of this family drama that I hate
this is a very basic telling, my thoughts go deeper but i don't wanna make this an essay

But that would be just the clair, not the obscur.
Say that again⁉️

were you actually adding nuance or just came in hot with some dipshit centrist wisdom like 'both sides bad"?

alright what dipshit argument did you bothsides in
When you make a comment about AI but you're not a grifter or a doomer.
I thought ur gif caption is gray text on grey background
It's probably a fallacy but I can't help but believe that if extremists from both ends hate you then you're probably doing at least something right.
When the ai
yeah but sometimes it actually is black and white, so trying to be gray just makes you look like a dumbass
Okay but we aren't talking about those times
maybe we are, we dont know what OP is specifically talking about. OP might be wrong and it might be black and white

Rightfully. Both-Siteism is stupid.
so any and all criticism of one side is null and void because the other one is worse?
Yes
absolutism will be the bane of you
