    parent root

Nah it makes complete sense. People just stick to the places they were in before the transition so trans men are in female spaces and trans women are in male spaces.

    parent root

Exactly. Being Trans doesn't mean they suddenly drop everything they like that is associated with being their previous gender.

Yep, it’s why I’m not like “where trans men”

Did literally no one pay attention to the amount of attention tumblr got? The tumblr stereotypes?

It’s gonna be a genuine while until Reddit has a wide demographic, it’s only been recently the racism calmed down enough for PoC to finally be more open, still having issues, LGBTQ are more accepted, still having issues, women are becoming accepted, still having issues.

The site would have to change massively for more people to not be “existing” here, the culture is so miserably toxic it trends occasionally across the internet

    parent root
    23 points Ivenomorefucksleft

As someone whose regularly on both I can concur with this, like half of my mutual group is transmasc but on Reddit it's almost overwhelmingly transfem and I love it greatly

    parent root
    41 points Teapot_Sandwitch

Not really, it's just that pretty much any space dedicated to trans or LGBTQ discussion solely represents transfems and nonbinary people while ignoring transmascs. Recently r/trans had a drama where one of the mods was deleting all the posts from transmascs and told someone to "stop bitching" when they called them out on it. The "save the dolls" movement is specifically gendered for transfems, when trans people come up in cis spaces it's always about transfems, and any trans representation in media is pretty much guaranteed to be a trans women.

    parent root
    8 points HalfMoonMintStars

When I was younger I thought transmascs were more common than transfems to come across. I suppose we’ve just carved out a niche that we all hide in? Lol

Statistically I think transmascs are actually more common.

However, any sort of masculinity is frowned upon in online queer spaces, so in order to be in them, a lot of transmascs would have to be less gender, so my guess is they just put he/him in bio and jus go about their day and try not to integrate

Could be wrong but this is just my theory

    parent
    22 points Lost-Candy1084

Statistically, it’s nearly a near equal split

Out of 2.1 million trans people in the USA trans women make up 32.7% and trans men make up 34.2%.

If you mean transmasc which I believe refers to a part of nonbinary, then it would be part of the 33.1% but it doesn’t specify trans masc and fem so I can’t give exact numbers there.

    parent root
    105 points GreensleevesMcJeeves

I suspect it is less to do with masculinity being frowned upon and more that transgender women are hyper visible everywhere.

    parent root
    78 points SeriousZombie5350

both are true, coming from a trans man

    parent root
    59 points PikaPerfect

    yeah pretty much

when a trans woman doesn't pass, she gets mocked because "haha that man is dressed like a woman!!!!", when a trans man doesn't pass, he's just another tomboy which isn't a big deal to most people

    parent root
    30 points mayhaps_a

I find this between funny and sad that this implies that no matter what kind of trans you are, manly features are always a problem

    parent root
    26 points JayofTea

Fetishization probably has some to do with it as well, unfortunately.

    parent root
    4 points mayhaps_a

Specially because it can be seen a lot how many types of men (from a pent up trucker to a gooner neet) can end up finding trans women hot because they like women and want to experiment different stuff or some other reason, and it ended up forming a kinda fetish around it that made them more culturally common.

On the other side, no one really cares about men. Women don't masturbate as much (yes, lots of women do, but there's a proportion of women that have either never done it until very old ages or almost never do it. Something that is almost non existent with men) and the porn they consume tend to usually be erotica novels or some other stuff, so men in porn and prostitution aren't sought after or remembered at all. And with that being the case, a demography that would care about men that don't have a natural dick is even more reduced

    parent root
    13 points LineOfInquiry

Nah, it’s just because transmascs tend to use different websites than the people on this subreddit. If you go onto tumblr or TikTok you can find lots of transmascs, even more than transfems, but Reddit is mostly transfems. And YouTube is about 50/50.

Also, assuming you’re a nerdy cis man, your interests likely have more overlap with those of transfems than transmascs. So you just don’t see them.

“I have a plan Orthur.” A plan for what, Dutch? To get more testosterone?

“I got TB” T what? Testosterone. It’s also why he has so much aura. It’s all that sheer manhood pumping through Arthur’s veins. It also explains why he’s so hot and why i feel the primal urge to make sweet love to him.

While social media sites targetted towards teenage girls would have more trans men. My friend who is a trans man fits this theory, but I've never gone to those other social media sites to check.

    parent root
    32 points DiamondWarDog

You probably just don’t share interests with a lot of trans men.

    parent root
    5 points JayofTea

The problem probably comes from the fetishization of transfems, and if you’re male, a lot of trans fems like male dominant media

    parent root
    11 points Tasty_Ball_Hairs_69

Well it is very possible that said transmascs have simply been underrepresented in the trans community. As sad as it is, there has (somehow) been a lot of transphobia within their own community towards transmascs (refer to the r/trans incident) but I believe this may simply be due to a large amount of misandry. Think of it like this:

    1. Someone is experiencing gender dysphoria, they dislike having a male body.

    2. They decide to transition to obtain a female body, and are much more comfortable.

This by itself is not wrong at all, and the same applies the other way, with women transitioning to men.

Sometimes though, possibly due to rooted hate of a figure in their life, an extreme case of dysphoria, or something else(idk I’m not a psychologist), this can result in a hatred of the opposite sex, even towards others.

Now, in today’s age, misogyny has been mostly shut down, meaning that this, I believe, would shut down most hatred towards transfems, while still allowing it towards transmascs. This, in turn, has mostly silenced the transmasc community, as people have received a lot of hate for it.

Now it’s not like this applies to everyone, if you actually go out into the world you can meet plenty of cool people that couldn’t care less about masculinity or femininity. However, as with many online spaces, the absolute worst of a group tends to be broadcast louder than anything else, which is then reflected onto everyone else. So even if three hundred people cheer you on, just ten or twenty people insulting you for it hits much harder.

It’s like how no matter how many good moments you’ve had in your life, it’s always the worst ones that keep you up at night. There are much less of them, but they are much louder than anything else.

Sadly, this type of behavior is simply rooted into our human behavior, and until we as a society can learn to appreciate all the good we experience, we’ll continue to hate each other.

    parent root
    12 points aHummanPerson

I assume transmascs just don't talk about it because guys don't really like talking about their issues so they blend in far easier. Also I think the transition of FtM is far easier than the opposite given general beauty standards and the fact that once you get any facial hair you're set

    parent root
    28 points SeriousZombie5350

"Also I think the transition of FtM is far easier than the opposite" youre entirely wrong. i have facial hair and a deep voice and people still find new ways to misgender me every time im out in public. the first part of your comment is sorta true since yes a lot of trans men decide to live stealth, but saying we have it "easier" is flat out wrong and harmful

    parent root
    2 points AcePowderKeg

Yeah, with Trans girls I can kinda tell they're trans because a lot of them either still have a somewhat manly face or their voice is a little trained.

They exist, they just get excluded from queer groups for not wanting to present feminine. I have known like a dozen trans guys and it's the same story every time - if you're enby or trans, you are expected to present femme and conform to feminine standards, and you get excluded if you don't. since gutwyrming is blocking everyone who disagrees with them so its impossible to have a real conversation, here is my response to what they said:

denying that transandrophobia exists makes you look equally like an idiot. i didnt ask if it was real, i asked if YOU thought it was real. and saying trans men experience oppression is not equal to saying transfems dont.

"I don't have to worry about being hatecrimed when I leave my house." you are speaking entirely for yourself with this. maybe you live in an accepting area, maybe you pass really well, maybe youve never been misgendered in public. but i and many other trans men ARE scared of being hate crimed and HAVE ALREADY BEEN. seriously what is your point? that trans men never experience transphobia or fear for their lives? this is a really disgusting take to have especially as a trans man yourself. please do better for your own sake and others.

"Androphobia and misandry are TERF and radfem ideologies, as well as MRA talking points. Putting "trans" in front of it doesn't suddenly make it valid, real, or more progressive." you seriously think terfs care about trans men and dont just see them as "troubled little girls?" you really think transandrophobia is a lie made by big terf? words do in fact have meaning, and whether you agree with their existence or not, they still exist. you have a lot of internal unpacking to do that isnt possible in this comment section. i suggest taking a long break from reddit instead of spewing vitriol at your own community

i’m transmasc and it’s hard to even find others in my IRL community (granted there’s a lot of reasons for that that we won’t get into). trans women just tend to be more visible because they’re fetishized and strawmanned more.

Speaking as a transmasc myself, we mostly keep to our own subreddits and aren't super open elsewhere. Unfortunately a lot of the time our issues aren't taken seriously (see the drama that happened on r/trans and r/curatedtumblr) so it's more pleasant to stick around people that you know understand.

We exist, we're just not at the forefront of the conversation because it's our transfem sisters who are constantly under attack and are at the most risk.

    parent
    42 points SeriousZombie5350

"it's our transfem sisters who are constantly under attack and are at the most risk" generally we are equally at risk of violence and transphobia. transfems are in the spotlight most of the time, yes, but that doesnt mean we are safe in comparison. transmascs need to stop spreading this misinformation. we have it pretty bad too, and saying that doesnt take away from transfem experiences at all. if you told a phobe you are trans, they dont care which way youre going. they just adjust their insults and hate crimes accordingly

  • 3 points C_r_murcielago

In my experience a ik a few transmen who weren’t exactly open to stating they transmasc online as much as I see trans women do it (and neither is wrong.) and they’ve all had the same reasoning for it which was that a lot of transphobic weirdos would say really disgusting shit to them online.

No one cares about us. To them we’re just joking, or going through a phase. Youre a trans woman? Oh god forbid anyone dare say youre not a woman. Youre a trans man? You’ll get over it when youre older. There’s basically zero representation of us because no one respects us

    parent

To all the trans folks reading this: You are valid. You are seen, and especially heard.

To all my trans sisters out there; You ARE beauty and grace. Conduct yourself in the manner you find best for you and OWN it sister. You are valid, and just as much of a woman as any other. People will see your beauty sooner than you will, and when others compliment you, BELIEVE THEM. You deserve all of the kind words you earn, and maybe a few more from the mirror at night. Keep killing it, sister.

To my trans brothers out there; You are seen, felt, heard, and loved and needed. I am so proud you've decided to chase who you are even if life gets harder for it. You deserve to have a shoulder to lean upon in a world that believes you just need to "man up". You are as handsome as any other man, as strong, reliable, and desirable as any other too. And you're doing good, brother.

And a VERY loud one for last: NON-BINARY FOLKS!!!!

You are you. Keep being you. From one trans, non-binary girlie to ALL others, regardless of who you've decided to be. I love you and I am so utterly proud you've found solace in your gender, or lack thereof. Everything you stand for is valid, you should look, sound, feel, and dress HOWEVER you want, and keep on rocking it! We are ALL figuring out this same journey together.

Sometimes when someone gets off the bus it's because they're done riding. Some people get carsick. For others it's too loud, too noisy and they just need a break and change of scenery. Sometimes you get the few who realized they got on the wrong bus and need to go back to where they were. Everything happens as it happens. All we can do is be polite, make pleasant conversation, be human, and thank the bus driver. It's all one big bus route and we're taking this journey together.

the prevalence of trans women and lack thereof of trans men on the internet seems completely inverted in real life. Irl, I have encountered exactly one trans girl, who I do not even know well enough to know her name, while I personally know six different trans guys. I do not know if this is the case for other people, or if the demographics at my high school are just an anomaly.

I've actually heard a pretty good explanation for this when it comes to online spaces. People often stick to the same social media sites that they're used to using, even after transitioning, and reddit is aparently more popular among men, while tumblr is the opposite. Someone that started using social media before coming out would likely stay on that same site, leading to there being more trans women on reddit and more trans men on tumblr. I don't know if there's any actual data go back this up, but it's what I've heard, and it seems to track with what I've seen.

My cousins transmasc, so they do exist. He's also friends with someone else who's transmasc. I think its just that transfems hugely fetishized on the internet, and masculinity is seen as "non-lgbtq friendly".

    parent
  • 1 points Hamster_Known

Come to Poland we have lots of them

    parent
  • 1 points SkinInevitable604

From what I understand this is the view on reddit because the site tends to attract men, who then later transition into women but don’t stop using the site. The inverse is true for sites like tumblr, which tends to attract more women, some of whom then transition into men. Consequently trans men are easier to find there than trans women.
