It's referring to the "citrus scale", a lingo used back in early fanfic days where an author mentioning a citrus fruit in the summary of the fic is them saying how intense the sexual activity is in the fic. Ie, Limes is just for foreplay, lemons for actual sex, grapefruits for the deviant shit
I remember it had some body horror like The Thing being stuck in place as a rock creature calling out for help from Mr. Fantastic who is slowly stretching his way through an air vent.
I think the original pitch for the movie was for it to be a full on body horror movie but the executives backed out last minute so a lot of changes had to be made.
The first fanfic id read as a kid was up on someones (who was obviously also a kid) blog and written so badly that even a 10 year old me just went "god this sucks but i dont know any better"
The second fanfic id read was also when i learned how gay people have sex
I wasnt in the circles that used citrus scale, and i only ever encoutered the lemon thing and nothing else, instead we had movie ratings ranging from G to NC-17. I still use those out of habit. Also the concept of "hats", when before ao3 people posted fic on their blogs and used a unified standard describing title, genre, rating and summary. Dead dove fics were "NC-you can never be old enough for it".
Hey did anyone else caught the discourse whether gen-fic can also be slash or does slash inherently meant PG rating at least even if it was a total curtain fic, instead of G.

Back in the day when even fanfic writers had evil clones of themselves. Shoutout to AngryJoe for having one, and AVGN.
I’m probably too young to know that lingo.

Grapefuits must've been some deviant piece of arts huh...

It's impressive how this picture is the only thing anyone cares to remember about the upteenth attempt to break the curse on that IP.
I mean, I remember the posters for it that said "Fant4stic"
I still use the word fantfourstic in day to day life

Than what about, oranges...
What type of stuff in particular falls into the grapefruits 👀?
Well I always knew it to mean "gRAPEfruit" for one.
Well tbh I recall stumbling toward multiple fics with the lemon scale and yet having this type of content
That why I was wondering just what kind of content grapefruit would have since I never saw it once
I think grapefruit was a bit of a niche within the already niche citrus scale which doesn't help.
I'd say rape, kidnapping, gore, toiletplay etc: are the most notable grapefruit kinkd I think of.
what play
skibidisex
brrr skibidi plap plap plap yes yes
Fair
i always thought lime was just fluff without any sexual stuff tbh
Code for lewds/explicit stuff in fanfics back in the day.
Lemon was for straight up smut while lime was similar but less lewd
oh yeah? do your lemons and limes have an OC with gay panic so bad she almost keels over and dies?
and instead of confessing her to her crush she just yells "I'M GAY!" at her?
yeah I didn't think so
God my first fanfic was ass.
We all got to start somewhere. For doing stuff we enjoy that is, I've never wrote much of any work based off a media I favored.
Respectfully, shut the fuck up, that sounds awesome, let me read
respectfully I wrote that
and because I'm so gracious I will provide a link to my first fanfic
would love to hear your thoughts <3

That is Superior way of confessing fym
you gotta write cringe before you can write based
What's lime, I know Lemon is just smut, but the hell is lime
Lime is just slightly less acidic lemon
So in this term line is just slightly less sexual than lemon
I’m not even old and I remember it
I've only heard of this being the case but to all people who say "who's we? there is no we.", I can confirm it was a thing back in the day.
i will always maintain that fluff and smut are WEAK terms used by WEAK writers. it should be called sugar and spice.
THEY DON'T SAY LEMON AND LIME ANYMORE?!
I mean, authors still sometimes use it in my experience, i don't usually read lemon heavy fanfics tho
Y'know I wonder who decided to use citrus fruits for that scale
I wasnt in the circles that used citrus scale, and i only ever encoutered the lemon thing and nothing else, instead we had movie ratings ranging from G to NC-17. I still use those out of habit. Hey does anyone remember "curtain fic"
God, Ao3 made everything so much easier.

I used to think I was young…
LeMon James

I remember when I was like 12 and a friend always talked about fics with those words and I asked her what it meant. I got scarred for life
So many wattpad stories are like this.
Also speaking of fruit I got flash banged by uncensored NSFW art in a Wattpad story (Curiosity stuck me again)
Also was scrolling for a story on Fanfiction .net and saw 2 characters partaking in coitus
I still remember the first that would put my 9 year old self on a watch list

We? Who's we? There is no we.
There is, you're just not cool enough to be included.
There is no Wii, there is only Mii, and U.
