String of Pearls, but Oblong?

Found at great uncle’s place. We don’t know what it is but it smells good and we know it’s a spice of some type. It’s MANY YEARS old. The size is almost like long grain rice but I did happen to have one of those dead bugs nearby to use for scale.

I thought this was alfalfa sprouts but the leaves are jagged

What is this? In a weird place in a garden bed. So who knows if it’s intentional.
