If I look through it I see a slightly magnified image flipped upside down and tinged blue and orange in a strange chromatic effect.
I found it in the trunk tools of a Mercedes benz. The manual doesn't show it listed. It has its own dedicated space in the foam insert inside the minispare. The foam insert has a dedicated space that fits this tool among the tow eye, jack, and various other tools. Manual doesn't show this tool in the breakdown.
Chatgpt says it's a boroscope camera, which is not right..

Medical laser handpiece: https://www.dotmed.com/listing/laser-handpiece/sciton/4-6mm-laser-single-spot-hand-piece/5417211
Any idea if there is an automotive application? Is this something that would be sold as a car road side emergency kit?
It's a laser ablation tool that requires a separate power source, there's no reasonable use for it in a vehicle.

And I was thinking it was an over engineered German pressure gauge, or removable sight glass for reading freon levels maybe..
Just because it fits in that spot doesn't mean that's where it came from.

I don't really know anything about it, but it sounds like it's meant for medical use, not auto repair.

More than likely the previous owner of the vehicle shoved the machine in the trunk and then lost this piece. Later when the vehicle was sold to a dealer they found the piece in the trunk and stuck it in with the trunk tools
previously worked at a car dealership, can confirm this is what happened.

Ah, I was thinking laser welding, but it didn't look industrial enough
Used worth €1200 dollar part of a laser: https://ebay.us/m/xlXHxe
It's not worth what someone is asking, it's worth what someone will pay, are there any sold listings?
One sold a couple of months ago for almost $1300
Any.idea if this could be part of a road side emergency kit?
Zero chance of that
No. Did a welder use your car? It's a valuable part
Welder? Im seeing folks say it was med laser?
Yes, they are correct. My background pushed me in that direction. Never thought of medical lasers haha
