It almost looks like a ski boot carrier.

This was my first thought, but it’s quite low quality, and Google ski carriers it’s not totally similar, not ruling this out though !

Looks like something you would use to help carry in lots of plastic grocery bags without cutting off circulation in your fingers. Can the balls slide into the ends of the handle?
No gaps at the end of the handle, had a little play, but doesn’t seem like it would help with that !
is there a reason you can’t ask the gift giver?
Embarrassment at this point haha

It’s a ski boot carrier. My last post was removed as it had a link, but Google ski boot carrier and you’ll see them all over Etsy
Solved!
This is what I was thinking too. OP, do you ski/snowboard?
This has to be an ad... Immediately solved and it's the exact product you linked from your second account?!
Isn't that one of those stick it in a door jam and use it for exercise things?
Just tested that, it seems a bit flimsy, I was worried the chord was going to rip !
They’re solid plastic so no chance ear plugs !
It looks like a handle used to carry a kayak.
