Edit: Given what we knew at the time, it's fair to assume identifying this would require familiarity with unseen internals. I don't think I was wrong to call this bizarre knowledge given what we knew when I said it.
I have this one, and it actually came with two different sizes, so this is likely the extra size. I have one sitting in a drawer that annoys me. Probably don't need it, but also don't want to throw out a perfectly good thing.
Everything solved in this sub owes its' solution to someone's bizarre piece of knowledge. It's why the phrase "none of us is as smart as all of us" is so applicable.
It does look similar, that was my first guess too, but no way you get that cover sealed without a lot of unnecessary effort.
These pumps are usually built in a way that allows quick and easy acces to the "top part" for maintainance, I dont think anyone would build it this way.
My title describes the thing. White plastic thing found on top of the fridge in the kitchen. The larger round piece is about 6” wide at its widest part, and about 1.5” tall. The insert piece is about 4.5” long and about 3” across and I can spin it with my hand when inserted. The insert piece has “436-S” stamped on it. No other identifying marks. I tried googling the images but couldn’t find anything.

It looks like the internal mechanism for a pet food dispenser
What a bizarre piece of knowledge to have.

The users on this page never cease to amaze me.
Yep, this is why I love Reddit.
If you own something, chances are you’ve taken it apart or cleaned it or otherwise examined it, so you may know.
I have this one, and it actually came with two different sizes, so this is likely the extra size. I have one sitting in a drawer that annoys me. Probably don't need it, but also don't want to throw out a perfectly good thing.
That’s exactly what happened to us. Used the smaller size and promptly forgot the other one existed.
Put it up on the fridge so it doesn't take up drawer space, label if you feel like it.
Or don't label it and just ask Reddit in 3 years. Either works.
I put my spare parts in a plastic bag that lives in the bottom of our food storage container.
a few years ago I got smarter and now I label my plastic bag(s) with what's inside.
Especially if you're of an inqusitive kind that would frequent subs like these, too.
I am sure it has a higher than average interest from DIY and engineering crowds.
The OP owns this thing... he found it on top of his fridge.
I knew exactly what it was because of this
This isn't even in the radar of obscure for this sub. lol
I recognized it just from the two that I set up from my cats.
Have you ever been to this sub? Like that's literally it's purpose 😂🤯

How is that bizarre? If you have a pet food dispenser you would have seen this before
I have near the same thing in my cats pet food dispenser. Everyone has their niche 😅
I recognized that immediately, too. They usually come in 2 sizes to dispense more or less food.
If it’s anything like my pet food dispenser, you’d see a mechanism like this the first time you fill the hopper with kibble.
Hive mind. You join enough people together to solve a problem or figure something out and it will get done.
Collective Intelligence: A group's combined thinking surpasses individual intellect, solving problems more effectively.
Coordination: Individuals communicate and synchronize actions, like bees finding a new nest site through dances, or software agents collaborating.
You never heard of Google Lens? Took me 30 seconds to find an image that matched.

Definitely looks like it.
Most will have a big and small portion, could be left from the smaller portions that they never used.
Solved! Many thanks
Yep. I have one in a drawer somewhere. The box came with two sizes: one better for dog food, one better for cat food.
This, either for pets, or medication or something similar. Its too small to be one of those rice/ beans ones.
Yes it’s this! Automatic pet feeder
Part of a pet food dispenser
This one https://youtu.be/58KJhha5v_I
?si=uNArdRr2juh9hsLv is a tracking cookie purge whenever seen
Solved! We have cats and this must have come as part of their food dispenser. Thank you!
my cat’s food dispenser came with two different impellers for different size kibble
Looks like part of the ice dispenser in the freezer
Kind of looks like the inside of a washing machine drain pump.
It does look similar, that was my first guess too, but no way you get that cover sealed without a lot of unnecessary effort.

Looks like it has been figured out but it is similar to the drain pump in a washing machine.
Part of an evaporator from the freezer?

This subreddit never fails to amaze me.
Something "kitcheny" no doubt- so fridge/washing machine/dishwasher methinks... ice maker?
