Found in the basement of my house. The house was built in the 1930s so I guess could be from any point in the last 100 or so years. Rectangular with two swoops cut into the top. two small holes that go all the way through the thing, with some bigger divots on the exit side. Seems to be made out of solid iron, and seems to be painted or enameled in some way.
There is an engraved stamp on the presumed top that reads (I think) PQ-2677 MW. It's too worn to pick up in the photos.

Looks like some kind of counterweight.
Possibly a counterweight for a sash window or pocket door. 🚪 Just a guess.
My title describes the thing, but here are additional details:
General dimensions: L 6 1/4", W 2 1/2", H 1"
 Weight: Maybe 2.5 lbs

The scalloped edges reminds me of recesses for fingers on an industrial handle/door pull from a large freezer or other heavy door.
counterweights don't vet sophisticated shape except if they are used as a ballast foot, for something like a heater
Used to work as a trash compactor repairman. We'd use cast iron shoes similar to that to guide the compactor heads.
Looks like a generic weight. I use a variety of sizes and shapes depending on what needs to be controlled or balanced. Most are in the 20 to 30 lbs category and then we drop to 1, 2, 5 and 10 for fine tuning. They are all designed to be bolted in place.
It’s a vibration dampened from a car. Our 07 Land Cruiser had one bolted to the frame on the passenger side.
This really looks like some form of brake pad, likely for heavy machinery not vehicular. While I can't find it online, it looks like a graphite pad.
