What are your favorite inkle loom resources? My daughter got a Schacht inkle loom for Christmas. I’m a well versed floor loom weaver but haven’t used an inkle loom before. Thank you!

  • The instructions that come with the Schact are enough to get started, but the Anne Dixon book is a great complement, with more info and tons of techniques and ideas.

The best yarn for getting started is #10 crochet cotton. It also works well for making the heddles you’ll need.

Thanks! I just ordered the Dixon book. I have a good stash of 8/4 cotton at the moment so I’ll probably start there.

  • Check out our wiki!

  • Helene Bress also has an inkle book. I learned to weave on an inkle loom using her book.

    I’ll check it out! Thanks!

  • So, beyond the excellent recommendations already made in this post and after gaining some experience with the basics of inkle weaving, I highly recommend putting the time into learning how to use the free software online at https://www.raktres.net/seizenn/#/ in order to create her own patterns.

Unfortunately I must say the software is not very intuitive to use/learn but it's really powerful and was worth every bit of banging my head against a wall until I managed to figure out the parts that were useful for my needs.

I got my inkle (Lojan) last Christmas and here is a project I did over the summer, it took just a few minutes to design the 3 different patterns for these bands using that software. These are in 8/4 cotton. Once your design is final you can print a warping diagram for it.

(3 of us in my family have this same tote - it's from Iowa Public Radio which explains the corn motif lol)

Thanks! I’ll take a look at the software?
