People who are calling these drones should look up the V-22 Osprey. These are Marine transport aircraft and fly often between the Pentagon and other installations.
im asking because i dont know and something that clearly is out of the ordinary of normal helicopters going by seems interesting to know about? If you feel like contributing thats great, otherwise move on the post isnt for you then
Exactly. It takes more time to post a comment than it does to just scroll on by if it's something your not interested in. I'll never understand these people.
OP indicated helicopter. In response to another comment I said “if it’s using opposing blades that spin, it’s a helicopter.” We would all have more information if OP actually provided it
So I read “helicopters” in the title. This indicates that they saw something that they believed to be a helicopter but might not have been.
Admittedly I was annoyed because it seems like there’s been an uptick of posts in this sub asking why helicopters are flying at x location.
Then someone says it’s not, and I reply that if it uses spinning blades it’s a helicopter, even if it’s a drone. I’d hardly call that me doubling down on something. I’m not an expert in aircraft. I didn’t insult anyone’s intelligence.
“It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft.” - from Wikipedia.
I will take the L. But I think you’re stretching a bit here to just try and dunk on me. An osprey is a helicopter when it needs to be and then a plane when it needs to be.

thanks for clarifying! i had legit no idea - never heard of these before so wasnt sure how to place them!
They do look drone-ish from far away
There was a popular consumer drone on the market that was based on the osprey design-wise. Drawing a blank on the name though.
They were Ospreys.

Two ospreys flew over my place around the same time in Trinidad
Yeah just heard it over Cleveland Park. Is it sad that I’m getting used to it?
Your submission appears to be asking about air traffic
You can look up overhead aircraft on Flightradar24.

I heard them right over my house in Logan Circle. My windows rattled.
Two strange, loud crafts flew over Chevy Chase DC a few minutes ago. ???
2 Osprey's. They were headed south over Rockville, looked like they were flying in from the upper east county
I think the were drones, just flew over Noma
thats what i thought too but i didnt realize how massive drones were!
I recently found out how big unmanned aircraft’s can be. Saw one on flight radar and it looked like a small plane. Tech is incredible these days.
Can the mods please ban these posts? It’s a helicopter and we’re in a city.
It was 100% not. It was two large military drones
Ospreys aren't drones.
If it’s using opposing blades that spin, it’s a helicopter. Doesn’t matter if it’s a drone. I can only go off of what OP puts in their title

If you provided a photo, video, or any kind of description about what you saw or heard you’d get better responses.
“What was that” isn’t an interesting post
