FYI I went last night and it was pretty crowded around 5:30. I was surprised by the number of people with dogs. Some seemed scared or their leash would get caught around people.
Beer garden dog owners. Every beer garden I go to in this city, there are at least 3 dogs hiding under the table shaking with anxiety as their owner drinks with their friends, and their toddlers are running around like they're at a McDonald's playplace.
I can't remember the last time I went to one. The 30-somethings who do this just ruin it. Every place is flooded with them, their dogs, and kids. Find it kinda ironic they have the same lack of self awareness that they usually condemn young 20s for.
Too many people think their dogs are fashion accessories. They have no clue how to read their dog’s body language to see when they’re stressed. Looking at you, dumb lady who had her golden retriever on the patio at Solace in Navy Yard during fireworks. Also looking at you, stupid neighbor, whose dog is just scared of the dog park. Y’all are torturing your dogs when you take them to places that scare them.
I feel that way about bringing them on planes. My dog would freak out. The baggage area where they keep pets in the plane is well-lit, climate controlled, and not full of strange people.
It depends on the airline so you definitely want to check that out ahead of time. I’ve seen the spaces that most major US carriers use and it’s adjacent to the flight attendants’ rest area and they will put water in and check on them. The crate I used had a funnel that allowed water to be added from outside. My delicate flower of a dog didn’t even seem stressed by it.
Safe to say this applies to any large, crowded outdoor event. Why do people bring dogs to parades, street parties, outdoor markets? It’s not appropriate! The dogs are overstimulated and uncomfortable! Have some sense.
I was at an event at a cafe in Alexandria one time that was absolutely packed. I was squeezing past some people and accidentally stepped on a dog’s tail. The owner glared at me and I felt horrible but…why would you bring your dog to a packed indoor coffee shop and have them sit on the edge of the only narrow walkable aisle?
I hate seeing people dragging their clearly stressed out dogs through these markets when they are very busy. The reality is there are not a lot dogs that will actually feel comfortable in that kind of chaos with that many people.
Restaurants, beer gardens, holiday markets, community events, Grocery Stores. People are too fucking eager to bring their dog everywhere in this city. The grocery store shit is particularly awful and unsanitary. My family has always owned multiple dogs at any point in our life and never once has it crossed our mind to bring any of them to a fucking grocery store, or a restaurant. Like what the fuck is the purpose of that?
It’s too crowded for people, they should really control entry somehow.
Or make it bigger…
Ugh I always see people with their scared dogs at events that are way too overstimulating. Not to mention, it’s really too cold for most breeds.

Yep. Just because an event is outdoors doesn’t mean it’s suitable for dogs. Especially in this weather
My dog is much happier chillin at home on her dog bed and letting me go out and do all the stupid crowd things.

See, I've heard the opposite about checking a dog under the plane, that they're noisy, not climate controlled, and that many dogs die or go missing.

That's good to hear!
some dog owners genuinely don’t believe there’s anywhere that there is anywhere shouldn’t be bringing their dog

Also, imagine how many times they must get accidentally stepped on?

I don't know why you'd take dogs to this, its super crowded (unless its a genuine service animal, obviously)
I saw a small dog pee on the green turf they had inside one of the lil shops.

Those of us who are coming without dogs can help by noticing, really noticing, if a dog is overstimulated.

oh it's packed a lot I was there for the Cena show yesterday
I have three dogs and would never bring to anything but a 5 or 10k.
