“When Nasdaq moves to 23/5, it plans to operate two trading sessions, with the day session starting at 4 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m., followed by a one-hour break for maintenance, testing, and clearing of trades. The night session will kick off at 9 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. the following calendar day.”

Now you retards can lose money at 1pm and 1am
A true degenerate would've been trading futures and losing money at 1am all along
I lose my money by 4pm ET, and then work a full shift at Wendy's by 1am. We are not the same.
I only lately have like $200 to trade
Same. One micro is all I can afford
Now you can lose more money in more places
The dumpster never closes baby
Getting closer to 24/7, just like any good casino should be.
If not casino, why casino shaped?
They should start sending cocktail waitresses around with free drinks
Now this is an idea I can support!
I like this church
In red, green, or black dresses. Or else it’s not classy.
That 1 hour “for maintenance” is gonna be real real key one day. Just watch and wait
I used to be on an IT team that helped monitor a team of traders' computers and software.
The one hour maintenance window will be hell lmao
It’s called halftime.
Blizzard weekly maintenance reset schedule 1 hour every Tuesday, regularly goes up to 16 hours.
Gotta be able to gap down/up through stop losses.....
They’ll stream the half time show direct from the Fed headquarters

Wait it's not 24/7??
No it's 23/5
Hedge funds legally compelled to let the interns have two nights sleep.
Weak sauce
Nope, if it was they would lose a shit ton of money on all the naked calls they are selling

Is there an ETF that tracks outside regular hours SPY?
Man, rolling out a new backend software version can already be a challenge to do over the weekend. And now you expect them to do it in an hour??? I've worked for Eurex and this is no joke. When interface/API changes are involved, all the connected banks and brokerages need to be able to do the upgrade that quickly, too. It becomes a nightmare to orchestrate and get right.
When everything is "tokenized" on Ethereum and Solana it will be 24/7 with liquidity. (Not counting illiquid after hours)
Ah yes, “progress”
I like making most of my life altering financial decisions after being wiped out from work, sleep deprived, and extra impulsive.
….and drunk right… you’re drinking every night to keep going right?
Who isn’t
I do all my biggest trades when I wake up in the middle of the night to pee sitting down.

😂😂😂😂
So now I can wake up with actual loses rather than pre market loses. Thanks Nasdaq.
It's not a loss unless you sell unless you hold 0dte's.
The last time the stock market moved to expand the trading hours was in the 1999/2000 bubble. Then as they were putting together the evening session the market crashed and the plans were scrapped. This is another way for Citadel to scalp the amateurs when the volume is even thinner and the bid ask spreads are wider.
Precisely
Yeah, this is a terrible idea. There's no point to be open 24 hours a day for markets besides those with access to burn more retail.
That doesn’t make much sense.
If trading hours are open then volume wouldn’t be hella low. The current issue with after hours and pre market is that volume is basically nothing and bids and asks are hugely disconnected.
Hours open longer equal more trades equal more profit.
This could not be a more wrong take.
Break it down.
Is volume terrible at 4pm? Are the spreads fucked?
Right now the only reason volume is so thin outside of 9-4 is because you cannot trade outside these hours unless you are willing to jump through hoops.
We need 2/7. 2 hour intensive trading per day
Probably trading should be 1 tick, 15 minutes for price discovery prior. 5 days a week. People just decide to buy or sell at the price. Similar to that closing price that’s some massive percent of daily volume.
Hahahah. Yeah
Low-key I agree with you.
Great even less volume during the day now.
Unless you are a hedge fund I don't think you would have any liquidity problems lmao.
Illiquidity impacts the cost of the spread. So every regard on Wall Street will be impacted to some degree.
Just use limit orders
Sir this is r/wallstreetbets not the place for responsible trader
That’s not how the cost of the spread works…
Exactly. Limit orders will not save you from a bad spread lol. I fear for some people’s money around here.
[deleted]
In theory, the width of the spread is essentially the cost required for market makers to take on the risk of owning (or being short) the stock, even if it’s only for a moment’s time. Housing these shares, even if only for a moment- brings on the risk of the stock moving, news coming out, etc etc.
If fewer entities are trading the stock, the spread should in theory widen to the point that there is proper incentive for market makers to show a bid or offer. E.G. Say a small company in XYZ is worth $100 per share. It is not traded often. A market maker may not feel comfortable buying the shares at $99.99… but hey we’ve got no problem buying them from you for $90 if you’re willing to sell at a 10% discount!!
This example is obviously extreme but that is how the spread operates. The spread is a cost- a hidden fee, and it’s what’s needed to give market makers incentive to provide liquidity.
OP’s comment of just using a limit is really just flipping it backwards. OP is now acting as the market maker. It doesn’t magically evade the cost of the spread and OP is not guaranteed completion with a limit order.
Just look at bid ask in current after hours. If the big players decide to all go home, there won't be liquidity anyway for this to work. The robinhood overnight has barely any liquidity.
I have liquidity problems every day of my life sir
Mr. investor is having trouble finding a buyer for his 0.23 shares of the vacuum stock.
Aerotyne International is more liquid during the midnight hour
More opportunity for you to be exit liquidity
Middle of the night shenanigans incoming
Great! Sleep while in green and wake up to the portfolio being wiped out. Great way to reduce world population, by giving them strokes.
Daddy is going to win a new car on night shift mmmmmwwwwhhahahha…
Algos are going to eat retail even more if this happens.
Cool, now do same day settlement
They won't because they want you to bag hold a losing position
As a trade settlement specialist, please don’t! Brokers can barely handle delivering confirms on T+1. They’re still adjusting from T+2 change from last May.
Just need to fee latecomers double repo rate on undelivered/outstanding debt and youll see them come around real fast :)
👆👆
You have no idea what kind of workflows and bureaucracy is involved in that. Besides, this is not done at/by Nasdaq/NYSE.
I’m just an ape mashing buttons here, magic man
Tell me why?

Tell me why?
I never wanna lose a trade
I want to be a regard all day
may god help us all
Now I can lose money 23/5 great
Jesus Christ
Loved to trade
0dte spy calls
Why would we allow big investment firms to rob us in our sleep?
Holy shit, goodbye sleep schedule and hello permanent eye bags. My wife's boyfriend is gonna be pissed when I'm glued to charts at 3am
Huh? 🧐 Wife bf
The market should be open 24/7
Except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my Birthday
Dammit, I want to sit at the table eating turkey while trading on my phone.
Someone is going to get rich making an app for all of you to wake up and trade when someone pushes the market around at 2am
Funny that. 2am in Aus is when the big move over your end usually happens. I struggle to stay awake for that long, 1.30 is my limit (getting old now).
The market moves only in the first hour of the day recently anyway.
I've been able to trade AH on think or swim already for many tickers for a while now. Can also do futures if you wanna play craps.
If they make this effective for options then it will be a shitshow. I hope they don't do that, because it will allow mm and institutional algos to fuck over retail. The evening session will basically have a fucked up bid ask spreads so you can't do shit.
They will manipulate the shit outta of it even more than the do now since they will make up 95% of the volume.
This only benefits hedge funds. The market should open for 1 hour per day (11AM), and everyone submits their orders. The orders are then collected, and executed/resolved in random order at midnight.
That would end 99% of the horse shit immediately
Is this options as well? Most brokers already have 23/5
No I believe we need CBOE to move to 23/5 for options
Curious how this would affect option expirations
Now we can loose 24/7
How much
cocainemeth (can’t afford coke) do you need to stay up all night?i creme'd
The CASINO is open boys!
I’d rather just bet on sports and in an actual casino vs what they wanna go to
The top is in boys and girls
Great, I'll be seeing more blown account posts in my Reddit feed.
That’s sounds great and all but what am I supposed to do between 8 and 9pm???
Will help pay off those 50 year mortgages faster. /s
Are they gonna offer holiday special in the future? “Trade now at Christmas with double theta decay… that’s the jingle bell rock”
Finally I can lose more money but this time I’ll be sleeping when it happens 🔥
Let’s be honest, most of us degens only care about options.. when are they going round the clock
Is this real? This will just be like buying crypto 24/7.
When will the earnings be released then? Probably not 8pm?
I've been losing money 24/6 with Nas100 CFD on forex for years now, where yall been??
Multiple a year for years they keep saying this and it never happens…
When was the last time they said this?
Good. I’m sick of the 0.01% trading after the market closes when none of us retards can. Especially on weekends.
This levels the field and creates more liquidity.
They’ve been talking about this for like 5+ years.
Do it already.
you think you’re going to benefit from this?
None of us are known for our thinking.
Yes. Absolutely. All of a sudden theta isn’t an imaginary number now that gets crushed by institutional traders instead of the market as a whole.
Right now they have 2 full days every week to undermine you. 24/7 would make retail trading vs institutions more level.
after hours prices aren't indicative of much other than a signal of what next open would look like in terms of price action because there's essentially little liquidity or volume to market hours (which is why spreads and movements are so much more extreme). the real price of what the stock is trading at is better reflected at open rather than in after hours because a bigger volume of buyer will affirmatively decide where price action goes that day
nothing really changes from this, you're overthinking AH too much lol.
Nah. Agree to disagree.
The richest people ARE allowed to make huge bets when retail isn’t.
It’s no different than buying into a private company before it goes public.
They legit dump billions into super shady “dark money” on the weekends when the market is closed to retail traders.
That’s why you’ll see theta instantly change (increase) from Friday to Monday, even though the market is supposed to be closed.
I can't make money either way.
So I don't give a fuck.
This is a horrible idea
Lmao those quants be earning way more money now but living in office all the time
What's the point of the 4am end of session if the day session also starts at 4am? Is it just a bookkeeping thing?
Why though? Just gives more reason for algorithms to make more money in rapid trading and nothing for retail.

Money money money
Time to find out if blackout drunk me is better than sober me
My regards to Nasdaq
Very nice of them to give us one hour a day - Probably to "work one out" before the next trading session begins.
CME futures already do this so why not stocks too
low volume things.
If Wendy's operates 24/7, so should NASDAQ. Simple as
The casino never closes
Casino opening hours for the biggest casino.
1 hour for maintenance, testing, pumping and dumping, etc.
Futures have been eating their lunch…

So I could lose money with 0dte twice a day?
Double up your Adderall or booger sugar orders.
No crying in the (24/7) casino!
I don't think people will be sleeping much :-)
Not a question I expect to see answered here, but when are mutual funds going to price?

Finally a good move from the markets LMAO🤌
will BlueOcean ATS's night trading be affected?

Nice!
Only if options do too. Fuck this SPY down 1-2% then back up 1-2% all overnight. Let us midnight degens capitalize on that shit.
I don't know about this. I haven't done any digging on this and this is just me thinking out loud, but curious how this will impact earnings releases? Will they do it during the "half time", or will they do it during the regular trading session? My experience with pre-market sessions is it allows me to get in and place my bet before the frenzy at open. The after hours session allows me to make a move following an earnings release. However, volume is generally low on no-event days in the after-hours session, and if I need to get in or get out, I tend to need to adjust my bid/ask not in my favor to fill the order. Liquidity is low. So if we're now expanding the hours of trading, will we continue to to see the volume distribution we see today, or will it be concentrated at open (4am), or will it be when markets wake up in their respective time zones (lol)? My concern would be if a majority of traders shut down for the day at 4 PM eastern, and we have institutions dumping at 7:45 PM, this will have a downward impact on the price since there generally won't be that many buyers at that hour, so price will continue to fall until the order is filled. The opposite can also happen where institutions buy up the price to where its elevated, and if new buyers come in, they are left holding the bag if it corrects.
many companies even big ones like Coca Cola announce early in the morning
True. But they need a time when the market is closed to release material info like earnings reports. I don't know what advantage there is for retail here, sounds like the big boys just want to manipulate the market even further to steal shares.
In markets where big players concentrate buys in pre and aftermarkets to avoid option volatility and retail traders, they now will no time to "hide".
It’s really foolish imo, just another move of coke-sniffing new gen Wallstreet to follow more along with crypto which does have 24/7 trading. There’s a reason most retail either drift towards interest in either crypto, or the traditional market. Like why are they trying to turn the STOCK MARKET - which is supposed to be boring, into some crypto 24/7 gambling machine? It’s so foolish!
All it this will do is drive volume down even more. And during big events, the crashes will be harder. The time closed is needed because it gives global markets time to take a breather & reassess for the next trading day.
why can't they clear trades ongoing during the day? its so archaic to take a break to "settle trades" why?
We are screwed!!!
O hail yeah
Will this include options trading?
So does that mean earnings releases come out while the market is moving?
Isn’t thought they already were. How is hood 24/5?
7/11
Imagine 3% down days while sleeping?
As an Alaskan, thank you.
Typical trading day as an Alaskan is:
Wake up
Get ready for work
Get to work
Lunch starts… open my app… and the markets are closed.
Options market?
Won’t most trading volume still occur during normal business hours? Meaning this will be more like after-hours plus - low volume and rapid swings in price.
24x7 casino has been long overdue
This is not a good thing, this is another last ditch effort to prop the market. They cant even rig the market right with Fed intervention anymore and are very scared of what that means. So now they have to get rid of the discontinuities in their holdings, it presents a pretty big problem for them when they are positioned a certain way then something happens overnight and their position has to adjust. They absolutely HATE how obvious the ridiculous gap up/down moves make the manipulation and how they werent able to freely manipulate the market while options trading was down. They seek to have full 24/7 control over price via Wall Street Skynet perfectly managing millions of options positions continuously.
I will be out of the market when this happens.
Casino open 24/7
I'm going to go thru withdrawals at 8pm
No way 😍😍😍🤑🤑🤑
