No, it depends on a bunch of factors including number of biz class seats available the week before, your loyalty program membership and status, whether the airline even has the tech to do it, etc.
In the United app you just check for seat upgrades weekly. I get first for 300-800 almost every time. As long as it’s not selling out they do deep discounts towards the end of the
Aren't cocktails standard on every longhaul flight? I always get my gin tonics even in Lufthansa Economy. I think the fully reclined seats/beds are the only thing I would actually value enough to pay money for. The "better" food and all that extra champagne servings I really don't care about. Even the very best airplane food is worse than any dish from any mediocre chain restaurant. In the end they are all just fancy microwave meals.
It's just Bombay Sapphire usually. No Idea what your issue is with that.
Also yeah, you need to ask for this just as you need to ask for almost all the other things specifically. Or do you also wait for them to tell you that they have sprite before just ordering it? Also it's written on their onboard menus. You can just read those.
Congrats! I remember my first time in Business, going from Amsterdam to New Orleans using frequent flier miles. I think I was 19 or 20. It was a huge mistake.
Right before I got to the airport I ate a hash brownie for the first time. It wasn’t until I got on board and sat down that I realized how badly I messed up. I went from normal to paranoid as hell in no time flat - when the stewardess came by and said “hi Mr Diverareyouokay, how are you today” I couldn’t stop wondering how the hell she knew my name (turns out they greet everyone by name im business/first)… so I just laid my cocoon back, covered my head, and tried to force myself to go to sleep.
At least I didn’t try shrooms right before I got onboard… I made that mistake earlier in the trip when I was at the hostel (I was traveling solo). Ironically, this was right after the movieHostel came out, which I had watched a few weeks before. That was not a pleasant first experience with shrooms, at all.
No, not when you’re high and paranoid. You want to become invisible when you’re paranoid. You want to be with the peasants. When you’re high and paranoid, you feel like you’re sticking out like a sore thumb. Unless you’re completely used to being in first class, you wouldn’t want to be in first class in that state lol.
Buddy of mine is a nervous flyer. He ate 100mg at the airport, and spent the 4 hour flight curled up on the bathroom floor. He said most of that time was in anxiety induced terror. FA had to unlock the door to get him to his seat so they could land.
You’ve gotta look at them and then back down the plane like you can’t understand why all these people are going back there. A real “what’s happening down there” confusion face.
You don’t see them. First class sometimes has its own entrance, and if not you usually enter at a galley, proper poors to the right — poor but bad at spending to the left.
I mean this with the most respect, but if a stranger can still slip a hot dog in your mouth while you are sleeping on a plane, you are no different than economy class. Use this as motivation to have your own tail number one day!
you know, i dont wanna be a debbie downer but i know of people who penny pinch to end up r.i.p’ing too early man (cancer). just enjoy your life. yolo. go biz class,
Don't worry about what others are saying. But, you should definitely consider early retirement if you're going to live life like that, otherwise there's no point. I mean, I live life like this too, but I do spend on things I enjoy, like games or hobby goods. I do also go on trips to japan yearly (only japan since i dont know any other language) but that's a hobby for me as well. Anyway, basically living frugally is perfectly fine, but there should be a goal for it is all I'm saying. If you retire early with a lot of savings, you can simply live off interest. That's my goal.
Good man, enjoy. I never forget my first business class flight from cali to Amsterdam. Felt good. Even got a free extended flight in the form of an unintended stop at Vancouver lol.
“First class” in the US is actually just business to the rest of the world. Real first class in any EU or Asian airline isn’t even comparable. Meaning, not the flex you think it is chum.
When I was flying back and forth between coasts last year, luckily my dates were flexible, I’d poke around and could usually find a 1st class ticket for like $1250 instead of $750 for economy plus. 7 hours each way, it’s SO worth it, especially if you get the lay down lounge chairs. You could say economy plus is 25% better than coach, but you can’t say 1st class is 2x better, because it’s more like an unpleasant experience vs a pleasant one.
Don't fly first class. Flying is fucking up the enviroment and you flying is preety much the worse thing for your carbon footprint.
I know its not cool to bang on about this stuff but come on guys people are really going to suffer from climate change, and its because of a lot of factors yes, but people making choices like this don't help.
Flying first class is like tripling your carbon footprint for an already huge footprint that a flight takes up.
Its not fucking worth it. I can easily afford to fly in this manner but I wouldn't do it on principle... It's a huge amount of emissions just so you can feel cool and stretch ur legs out a bit further for 8 hours.
Who fucking cares, you don't need that luxury. You didn't earn it don't fucking kid yourself. Our ancestors used to run mammoths off of cliffs for fuck sake, and they didn't need first class. Grow up don't fly first class. Don't be a spoiled little bitch.
Bro, even if no one buys a first class ticket, some people will be upgraded to it regardless. You can also just choose to fly airlines that have lower emissions as their goal
if people stop booking first class there will be less demand for first class over time. Then planes won't have as many first class seats. Then planes get to be more efficient...
I just fly once per year and try to never do multiple stopovers, just direct flights so lower emissions... But yea just is what it is first class is fucked. Enviromental friendly goes: Not flying> Economy>Firstclass>Renting a Jet> Owning a jet> Owning a jet and a superyacht like a fucking prick.
That is not how it works, at least in regards to first class. If first class is not booked by the general public then airlines will still find a way to get them booked, specifically through their own employees or other channels. And even then, even if they were never booked, they will never downsize the number of seats in first class. They'll just keep it empty. Oh look, now there's even more waste. Because in the rare occasion that it does get booked, it's worth it enough for them..
And they'll just dangle it as an upgrade option for frequent flyers or whatever other program if it truly does have low booking rates...
But yes, always fly direct if you can.
Source: have been upgraded to first class from business on Emirates previously, off points. The airlines always have some system in place to make it so flyers will fly more often.
If nobody books first class airlines would not have a first class dude. you think they are gonna keep the (incredily expensive to run ) first class open just for their employees if only 1-2 people are booking per flight? Eventually first class would become a thing of the past. All flights would be more economical like Ryanair/Easyjet with 0 first class. Or at least REDUCE the size of the first class area of the plane. This means we can have smaller more efficient planes with more people inside = less flights.
Your theory is that first class is something that is integral to flying. It's not. There is a world without first class, we are just not living in it at the moment, but we shouild be. There should be no first class or private jets. The way to make that happen is to stop paying for them. Ovbiously not something that happens over night. But that is how any buisness functions. No demand = No product offered.
I get what your saying but your talking only about the single fight you are on. Not the bigger picture! Cheers.

And … its gone.
Not quite, did a bid, got the upgrade for 500 bucks instead of the normal cost of 3.5k
I'm not totally regarded
Edited: cause typo

bros I'm high and this has been making me laugh for 15 minutes straight
this is so funny
Had to come back for seconds huh?
I'm also pretty drunk rn. And this pic is hilarious
U better be drunk on a first class transatlantic flight
how does that work? u do it at the airport desk or on app?
So they sent me an email, I did the lowest possible bid which was 510, to be exact.
Got it 2 days before the flight.
Airline is aerlingus
Air lick deez nuts
Flew a SFO-DUB with them once, filthiest airplane I've ever been on--and the bar is low.
Is there always a first class bid I'm not aware of?
No, it depends on a bunch of factors including number of biz class seats available the week before, your loyalty program membership and status, whether the airline even has the tech to do it, etc.
User name checks out
More common in EMEA than US.
I buy first upgrades on United all the time. The heavily discount if they don’t sell out. Had iah to Ogg for 600 this year
Buy or bid? I feel like I see upsell offers all the time on United but I can't remember bidding for an upgrade.
They don’t bid but if you click change seats they offer them at a discount most of the time
600 on top of what you originally paid?
Correct
You can bid up to two hours before the flight
In the United app you just check for seat upgrades weekly. I get first for 300-800 almost every time. As long as it’s not selling out they do deep discounts towards the end of the
The fuck? 500 for an international first class upgrade?? What??????
Yeah easily worth it imo. 8 hour flight + premium lounge access. It's ending soon and I don't think I've ever felt so refreshed post flight.
Yeah that’s cheap as fuck.
dude is in business class. Aer Lingus don't have first class. Nuts remain unlicked and OP knows no breath on his furred dominion.
500 upgrade to business is still 6x cheaper than I would expect
gonna keep it real, I rather travel in a wood chair and drink those 500 bucks than fly in first class
I'm gonna keep it real... you might have a drinking problem.
rough friday
Or just have the nice comfy chair in first and drink $500 worth there
It’s not the alcohol it’s the lay flat seat so you can sleep
Just bring alcohol with you who pays
Still a chair though?
my standards may be low, but they exist
even Ryanair got better screens
Bro be flexing when he pays for the Ryanair legroom upgrade
Meh, let him flex. He's enjoying himself
Not sure how this is a first class offering though - it's no better than most biz class
And massage chairs, lie flat beds, drinks, cocktails, good airline food, etc
Aren't cocktails standard on every longhaul flight? I always get my gin tonics even in Lufthansa Economy. I think the fully reclined seats/beds are the only thing I would actually value enough to pay money for. The "better" food and all that extra champagne servings I really don't care about. Even the very best airplane food is worse than any dish from any mediocre chain restaurant. In the end they are all just fancy microwave meals.
gin is so awful in Lufthansa now... They don't even offer alcohol drinks you need to explicitly ask for it... fck them
It's just Bombay Sapphire usually. No Idea what your issue is with that.
Also yeah, you need to ask for this just as you need to ask for almost all the other things specifically. Or do you also wait for them to tell you that they have sprite before just ordering it? Also it's written on their onboard menus. You can just read those.
Last time they got some austrian gin probably, tastes like a sht
this sounds like an alcoholic issue lmao
flight attendant hot? most important question
Hell yes he is
damn bro, i wonder if he packin
lmao
In first class you're paying to have more room and be away from poor people.
thats business.
[deleted]
still business :)

Beats being paranoid in the back of the plane with the peasants
No, not when you’re high and paranoid. You want to become invisible when you’re paranoid. You want to be with the peasants. When you’re high and paranoid, you feel like you’re sticking out like a sore thumb. Unless you’re completely used to being in first class, you wouldn’t want to be in first class in that state lol.
Did you pay for the ticket with market profits?
Buddy of mine is a nervous flyer. He ate 100mg at the airport, and spent the 4 hour flight curled up on the bathroom floor. He said most of that time was in anxiety induced terror. FA had to unlock the door to get him to his seat so they could land.
Imagine how terrified he’s going to be of the flight back.
Next time have a couple of drinks. It’ll take the edge off.
I read this as hash browns and was like bro wtf was in them McDonald’s hash browns
I did the same but slept in the hotel and had to get a new flight for $500 and another night at the hotel lol.
It looks like you’re flying commercial?
Ewwww....
Right? Where's the Gulfstream?
Aer Lingus Business Class. Enjoy the trip to Ireland.
What does this mean
They’re rich (enough for first class anyway) and want you to know about it
Said he bid on it and got the upgrade for $500
If anything, his flex makes me feel rich.
Thats what first class looks like?
No lol, this is business
Which part specifically do we need to explain?
Yes
Don’t forget to side eye the poors as they board!
You’ve gotta look at them and then back down the plane like you can’t understand why all these people are going back there. A real “what’s happening down there” confusion face.
Lmao 😂😂
You don’t see them. First class sometimes has its own entrance, and if not you usually enter at a galley, proper poors to the right — poor but bad at spending to the left.
lol
I mean this with the most respect, but if a stranger can still slip a hot dog in your mouth while you are sleeping on a plane, you are no different than economy class. Use this as motivation to have your own tail number one day!
Or alternatively get off the hedonistic treadmill and learn how to be content with life.
What do you mean by tail number?
It means having a private jet
Aircraft Registration Number ;) Keep going!
In american/united/delta? It’s not the flex you think it is.
Kinda confused. 1999 quality first class seat, 2025 quality cell phone camera.
First class or business class? This looks more like business class
Purple - the color of kings!
I'm a recluse so even tho I have money I don't leave the house unless I'm at work
Miserable way to live life
I have 220k invested and a paid off house and eat 2 dollar Ramen most days
you know, i dont wanna be a debbie downer but i know of people who penny pinch to end up r.i.p’ing too early man (cancer). just enjoy your life. yolo. go biz class,

You’re ruined, no going back.
Once u fly in first or business class everything else sucks especially on long hauls
Bro not to be rude but that’s a normal business class, def not first lol
Good man, enjoy. I never forget my first business class flight from cali to Amsterdam. Felt good. Even got a free extended flight in the form of an unintended stop at Vancouver lol.
Guy withdrew $250
WHATcontinental !?
“First class” in the US is actually just business to the rest of the world. Real first class in any EU or Asian airline isn’t even comparable. Meaning, not the flex you think it is chum.
Ehh. Still a huge upgrade to what I'm used to.
Whether it is to you, is besides the point. Withdrew winnings. Enjoying life. :) Santa came for me :D
Id rather buy some hookers

If you were a real baller that would be your private G6
Haha working on it
Cat scans??
Are you the homeless guy praying in the corner?
If you ever fly business and then go back to economy you regret even trying it because it essentially ruins air travel for you.
Well .... Fuck Looking forward to the trip back i guess ..
lmao imagine taking profits and still needing to sit with other people. Should've kept on doubling your winnings until you have your own jet.
Doubling is hard :')
Looks like premium eco
and you still have to deal with a dog tail on your screen?
I’m too poor to comprehend.
Looks like low end biz class or premium economy....... Not very regarded.
I hope you didn’t pay cash for this. It’s the least appealing business class I’ve ever seen almost close to Air India ones
Air India ex-Delta 777, and A350 business cabin is solid, but besides that the cabins are shithouse.
Looks really basic actually. Nothing like Emirates - now that is an experience, proper luxury.
Pretty sure this is a city bus bruh
Well, I, for one, would NEVER hope you get hit by a bus.

this is actually pretty deep
Economy class looks more enjoyable
Lol it's not
Said by someone who’s never done a transcontinental or oceanic flight
You've got a weird sense of fun.
