Ski town bartender here who’s had to refuse service quite a few times in the past week because guests were unable to produce ID when asked. **Carry your physical, valid ID on you- a photo of it is NOT acceptable**. Don’t waste my time, or yours. Makes my job and your night a whole lot easier. And consider it a compliment if you’re carded. 😉

  • When I was 20, my roommate and I (living in Williamstown at the time) to a short Greyhound trip to Montreal and one guy on the bus at the border got held by Border Patrol for not having ID and he was like “I’m from Philly man, no carries ID” (Early 1997) and it shocked me that there are people who don’t carry identification, especially when trying to get across the border

  • Crazy that you even need to tell people this. How is a person’s ID not on the top of the list of things to always have on hand?

It’s surprised me also, but here we are. The number of people who try to show me a photo are also astounding. Really? In the age of AI and digital editing? GTFO with that.

Are they usually foreign? Or just pretentious rich kids? I could sort of understand if they were from Europe or elsewhere where the drinking age is lower and ID laws are more relaxed. If they are from North America, they should know better. I’m 34 and I still make sure to have my ID whenever I buy alcohol or lottery tickets.

Nope, and all tend to be under 25

That's wild. I'm 40 but get carded often enough that I wouldn't be shocked if someone turned me down if I didn't have my ID. The idea of some 24 year old thinking they wouldn't get carded in a ski town is crazy.

    ID police over here

Have you ever had to deal with the DLC? Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to all things serving alcohol.

When the bartender can get fined personally and even jail time... Yeah... Id please

    Considering it's the law...? Yeah

ahhh poor little boy got caught with a fake ID, eh?

  • Former bartender of over a decade here and just griping - 75% of the time I've said no and had belligerent responses has been to 21-25 year olds. You look young - you're gonna get carded!

Then when my 50-something ass gets carded at the store, "Oh bless your heart, you're so sweet!" ☺️

Kinney Drugs' policy is apparently to scan the license. I'm over 50, got carded buying wine, and didn't have my ID. No wine for me. They should have some way to override the register wanting the license scan.

  • Also if you’re going into a store with a group of people make sure they all have ID as well. If they don’t have ID make them stay in the car.

  • Also, every trooper, sheriff, and cop in the state is out looking for drunks so keep that shit at home, too.

  • Former Stowe server here… it was wild how many times I’ve had to say no because “I have a photo of my ID” doesn’t count lol. WHY DO YOU HAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD IN YOUR WALLET TO PAY FOR YOUR MEAL BUT NOT YOUR ID?! omg it drives me nuts. Whatever other circumstances happen for me to have to say no (“I left it in my hotel room” or “I forgot it in my ski pants”) isn’t my fault and I’m not losing my job and getting fined just because you can’t get your shit together lol

  • I bartend half way up a ski resort and I say no A LOT

  • Peeps who carry no identification are militant about it, as well. WHY DO I NEED 🆔 ? Like - fella. Just because you don’t need it every day is no reason not to carry it at all.

  • Or, drink mocktails and be the designated driver.

People who can’t fathom the need to carry an ID can’t handle surviving socialization sober.

  • I got carded for the first time in several years yesterday and brought it up to my partner 1x/hour for the rest of the day. (He was not carded.)

  • No, dad cannot vouch for you. Please stop yelling at me, sir.

    Sir, this is a Wendy’s

I bartended at a ski resort for 10 years and couldn’t stand the parents that got righteous when I wouldn’t serve their kid.

  • Former bartender/bouncer. The holiday season is rookie season and while the money normally made up for it, the amount of times you have deny service over simple things made it exhausting.

  • It’s unfortunate that Vermont has not gone along with electronic IDs on phones. Much easier.

yeah that's some Orwellian shit right there. gtfo

  • Many times I don’t carry a ID 🪪. Just a credit card 💳. I hate wallets…
