• A few questions to narrow down some good options

    • what's your budget?
    • what's your tolerance like?
    • portable or desktop?
    • are you looking for a session style or on-demand?
    • electric or manual? Electrics are often the easiest to get started with, but there's a lot of terrible ones out there. Fortunately this sub can recommend some good ones! Manuals require an external heat source such as a butane torch or induction heater, but some of the most budget options will outperform mid-level electrics.

    Cost not a real issue.

Lowering tolerance atm to near zero.

    Prefer portable.

I'm thinking on demand is for me. Do not plan on using it indoors. Not sure if thats possible for what I'm imagining as a session device.

Electric if possible but not ruling out a manual.

Hope this helps, i appreciate the list of questions, I'm new to the DHV thing so i feel like a newb again.

Check out the Tiny Might 2, Tafee Bowle 2, and Frolic, they're the strongest on-demand electric portables. If cost is no issue, you can buy one vape and grow into it because you can microdose or use them as heavy hitters.

If you want to go cheaper look into the Healthy Rips Rogue 2. But it's a session device and jf you have a bit of a tolerance, you'll want one of the heavy hitters.

Do add on those. There is also the firewoodaromatech devices (fat x and fat 11). Both on demand. Both cheaper than the first named 3 and also loved by the community. However fat doesn't ship to e.g. Germany.

  • Depends on the tolerance. If edibles weren't doing it and you were regularly dabbing a terpcicle would work for cheap. Try that and see if you like it before dropping money on other devices. That's if you don't mind using a torch and getting a feel for it. Other vapes with a similar price just won't hit as hard nor have a large enough bowl to consume enough bud without long sesh times and constant reheats. You won't get the blast of thc like with bong rips with anything weaker. This is my opinion after smoking only joints and packing bongs as I just felt like vapes didn't hit hard enough. The reality is if you vaped the same amount you smoked you'll be higher vaping. It just takes longer unless you have a efficient device. No electronic vape is big enough, powerful, or cheap in my opinion unless you consider a big injector styled vape with a coil electronic hahaha.

Awesome, appreciate the reply, went on the googles and felt lost at sea with the endless options

Yeah there's a lot out there and none of those blogs are any useful except to get an idea what was popular for that year. Vapes are generally all the same. It just depends on how much it can hold, how well it retains heat, and ease of maintenance.

If you were planning on vaping outside then an electronic vape would work if you have a low tolerance. A higher tolerance I would recommend a "manual" styled vape with an induction heater as those will hit hard and be easy to clean with the amount of build up you're going to get with more heat.

I really don't like electronic vapes as theres always a point of failure with the electronics and the air paths are not 100% sealed. I haven't seen an electronic device where there wasn't a way for vapor to condense somewhere in the housing containing the electronics. They're also a pain to maintain or clean. Replacement parts are expensive or don't exist for the model. The air path if gummed up enough will cover everything in resin and make a sticky mess.

Electronic vapes are convenient to use, but after heavy use and not cleaning it often you'll find it's very hard to clean well and clog easily. This is my opinion as a everyday smoker with a high tolerance after trying nearly every style of vape out there.

This feels like good advice, truly appreciate the responses. I had not thought of the concerns with the electric vapes. If it becomes a thing I'm definitely gonna have to invest in a setup just to keep it clean.

I have an original switch but its WAY past its prime, used and abused. Lesson learned on up keep. Also the bowl size was WAY to small WAY to fast and would overflow/boil over if the dab was too big. The dry herb vape setting never really seemed to work and just made a mess of the bowl and glass very quickly.

Hahaha yeah those electronic dab rigs get messy quick if it boils over. Remember when those were new and my buddy got a puffco. After a week or so it was clogged and we thought the coil died. Took off the coil and glass top; my god it looked like honey was poured in. He ended up just scrapping it off and putting it back in the banger until it was clogged for good. He could never find a way to clean it well so he just used it until it died.

I ran into the same issue when I got my own electronic dab rig. I managed to clean it after soaking the coil in isopropyl for a week and meticulously scrapping all the resin out with q tips and alcohol. There's still some resin in spots I couldn't reach.

Those electronic vapes for bud are very similar to the e rigs. It just has the heating element above the bowl heating the air as it passes through, heat the bowl like a banger until it starts giving off vapors, or do both. So it will generally have the same problems.

  • If vost is no issue id reccomend a tinymight 2 personally. I worked up through several cheaper vapes (xmax, dyna etc) and after picking the tm2 up i wish id have just got this first and saved time and money lol. Its so easy to use put herb in tube press button and go!

Ive heard the solo 3 and the frolic are also top tier but ive never used them so cant comment or compare them.

  • Session just means that the oven stays hot between hits, that is for when you are trying to kill the bowl. On demand just means that the oven cools down between hits, that is for when you just want a quick little hit. There are battery powered portables that can do both. You probably want to spend a little money and get a good vape, if you are going for battery powered portables. The butane vapes, you can get good hits with them on a budget but you have to be mindful and there is a learning curve.

The Arizer Solo III and TinyMight2 are well liked battery powered portable on demand vapes.
