Hello everyone! We are back with another admissions megathread. Why apply to Western?

  • Top 1% of universities worldwide (Center for World University Rankings 2024)
  • 45,000+ students from 138 countries
  • Top 3 in Canada for student services (Maclean’s University Rankings 2024, Medical/Doctoral category)
  • 93.5% employment rate 6 months after graduation
  • #3 in Canada for employment outcomes (QS world university rankings 2025)
  • ALL programs can include work experience

It is no surprise there is a lot of interest in the admission process at Western. To keep the subreddit manageable, admissions related top-level posts will no longer be permitted and will be redirected here instead.

To keep discussion active, we are going to try a new monthly megathread approach this year. This is the January monthly megathread.

What are your chances?

There are no cut-offs or minimums that guarantee admission, since the decision is made on a combination of factors that is unique to you.

Check out the typical average ranges of last year's incoming class so you can get an idea of what your chances are.

Note that these ranges are averages, which means some students fall above and some fall below.

Program/Faculty OUAC Code Admission Average Range
Arts & Humanities EA Low 80s
Fine Arts - Studio EAV Low 80s
Computer Science ECS Low to mid 80s
Engineering EE High 80s to low 90s

The typical first year class has an entering average of around 88% (A)

This is an average, which means some students are above and some students are below. Admission to Western is competitive. Achieving an average in the indicated ranges does not guarantee admission. To be considered for admission, you will need a minimum number of courses in addition to the required courses for your program listed here.

  • What are the chances the Online MLIS Program at Western University will have more spaces available 2-3 years from now?

In 2025, the online MLIS program at Western was created but only had (if I remember correctly from a Reddit post) 35 spots or so and over 900 applicants.

Do you think 2-3 years from now the program will have more spots and accept more applicants?

I don't graduate with my bachelors for another 2-3 years, so l guess I'm just wondering if I should stay hopeful or not.

Don’t know about that program specifically, but registration in MLIS has been steady for the last 10 years.

Adding an online program signals an intent to grow the program but it takes time to grow and keep it manageable. (You need staff and space to support that growth)

If that “35” number is true, I wouldn’t expect that number to go much past 100 for a few years.

  • I'm thinking of applying time health sciences cos apparently you can't apply to bsc psych immediately how do I minor in psych

If you want to do BSc psych, you have to apply to general social sciences first, then specialize in second year. If you’re looking to minor in psych, the program you apply for would depend on what your major is

  • Does anyone know when the release dates are for acceptances to come out for the CTF Nursing, RPN streams A & B program??

  • Really silly question maybe, but when you successfully swap into a course online, do you have to email the prof or something to get access to the Brightspace page? Or will it all be handled?

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back about your application from the Education Masters Programs?

  • I’m not sure if there is a thread for Indigenous applicants specifically (if there is please let me know!!) but I’m starting to stress out because I’m waiting for a letter from my band office so i can do the Indigenous application, but they’re pretty bad with answering and getting back to calls. Once the application deadline is passed, am I unable to submit my documents needed to enter the pool of Indigenous applicants? Thank you!!
