Hello comrads, my grandfather passed away and he had this uniform in his basement for a long time. Could anyone translate it and where exactly it came from? Is it a real uniform? Or a fake? I have no clue what branch it would be from. From the medal on the chest it seems maybe Navy? Or Intelligence possibly?
This is the naval uniform. The cap was made in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and has the shoulder straps of a captain of the first rank. This is equivalent to an infantry colonel. He can command a destroyer or cruiser.
don’t colonel have three gold stars with the two raspberry lines though
Yes, two stripes and three stars is a colonel in the infantry. In the navy, they have different ranks.
Navy rankings are different from army. In the army officers go as "junior lieutenant - lieutenant - senior lieutenant - captain - major - sub-colonel - colonel" while in the navy it's "junior lieutenant - lieutenant - senior lieutenant - captain-lieutenant - captain 3rd rank - captain 2nd rank - captain 1st rank". Captain ranks suggesting what rank of ship they can command.
Interesting, I’ve been trying to dig up more information about it. It’s navy Im assuming? Would you happen to know around what timeframe the uniform would be? I was thinking like 70-80? My grandfathers uncle was a naval officer for the nuclear intelligence program I believe
The pin is "For a long-distance voyage"
I asked my mom and she told me that my great uncle would drive my grandfather in the outskirts of Leningrad (I believe this was after the fall of the Union) and would point out old nuclear silos to him.
I’m guessing my great uncle was a very high rank officer in the nuclear naval program potentially. I wish I could get more information
"88 г." or "89 г." (I'm not sure what the second digit is) is the year of production of the cap, i.e. 1988 or 1989.
The "long-distance campaign" badge indicates the navy. On the cap, the last line is the year of manufacture—I think it's 1989—the number is illegible.
Rest in peace comrade🕊
That uniform looks cool, I'm sorry for your loss.
Also: downvoters will downvote, but this shirt was never worn either (at least by senior officer of the Soviet Navy) -- look at these hanging threads.
Also: the person who pinned the badge didn't even care to do it evenly -- and they pinned it on the left side, which is wrong.
Also: this badge wouldn't be the most important decoration for a senior officer to have it singled on the shirt.
So sorry, most probably a tourist stuff.
Ah, people here just like to play make believe a lot with “if you present us with good enough evidence, we will change our perspective” but then always move the goal post.
My condolences
Salute to comrade grandpa, rest in peace ! o7
This button on the shoulder strap cryes "fake". No sane person would use big button from the "militia" (police) uniform -- still pretty normal for tourist stuff.
The cap looks too pristine like it was never worn.
