For those who are surprised by two officers serving on the same crew - they specifically appealed to serve on the tank they helped to build and the army sent them to the Chelyabinsk Tank Military School first, from which they graduated as junior technician-lieutenants.
Also: she was the tank commander, he was the driver. On the photo he has a Red Banner (subsequently received a Red Star) and she has a Patriotic War. Talk about glass ceiling for women.
