We’ve gotten a few complaints about them and how it makes having two subs pointless as they both have their place and use, you’re blurring the line. Plus, this place is meant as a meeting point between the “two sides,” so having some posts be so polar can be disrupting.
So, what should we do?
When are we voting on restricting liberals here?
This is the real question.
yes but you can hardly expect the basically anti-ussr liberal to propose that.
anticommunists can get their propaganda from literally anywhere else
Allow them to stay IMO.
I'm for either banning them or restricting them. I think this place should remain as a collusion of both sides and not have super polarizing stuff. Plus, it really does erase the need to have two subreddits; moving TankieUSSR-esque posts onto there would bring more traffic and usership to them and it would clear up this sub for more serious discussion.
People who are more extreme can go there to post and stuff because it's not really allowed here, and the other side's extremists can probably just get banned anyway.
I'm pretty left but even I can admit that there a plenty of posts that do not belong and should go on the other subreddit.
I think you mods should be much more strict about what passes for valid criticism of the USSR. So many fucking libs and reactionaries in this sub just pull out the ol' USSR bad. Not sure how that is worthwhile discourse in the context of the historical analysis of the USSR.
When are we gonna vote on that?
I honestly don't know what the rubric should be. I ban low-effort and disrespectful items, leave up criticisms if they have effort and are constructed, and try not to be extreme. There are some real wackos I see that are easily distinguished from people actually discussing and debating.
What passes for valid criticism?
I ban those guys.
Vote on what? The rubric for valid criticism? If so, who decides them; the communist users and the communist mods? We really do not need to be an echo-chamber, so, if you have an idea on how to get voting on "valid criticisms" started, please tell.
edit: that last section sounds kind of harsh/rude and I do not intend for that, I just mean that who gets to decide what is valid criticism and how can we set that up.
Getting rid of /tankieussr/ posts but allowing the usual liberal trash here (that represents >50% of the posts made to the sub on a normal day) would move this sub's Overton window 8 steps to the right.
I don't envy the mods' jobs of removing the 800 "StALin KiLLeD 5 tRILLiON PeOpLe & eXtiNCteD the DinoSAuRs" posts daily, but the /tankieussr/ reposts might actually educate the random visitors to the subs to what the USSR actually stood for (as in, building socialism and crushing fascists). It's a counterbalance to the constant spam, and /tankieussr/ tends to be actually factual, to boot. Some users of this sub are here to celebrate communism and the memory of the Soviet Union, not pick it to death with tired revisionism.
Do you really want this to be one of those subs (like "china" vs. "sino") where it's painfully obvious that the entire thing is a psyop to steer people away from the idea that humanity should equally enjoy housing, jobs, healthcare, peace, land, and bread?
Listen, you guys gotta start reporting stuff if that's really what's happening. I asked for mod because there were tons of liberals clogging up the sub and I spent hours going through the 1000+ items that accumulated and spend my free time clearing up the ~60+ items that show up in the queue multiple times per day. I'm putting in the work here.
They do often put up real documents and regular sub-fitting posts that aren't polarizing, I can agree with that. Honestly, I've seen more polarizing stuff from the other mod(s). (Those ones about killing the Romanovs were a bit extreme tbh.)
I think I'd delete my whole account if that happened.
Keep tankieussr and ban all other posts. Two is better than one.
allow em to stay
Nothing, this place here should also be "tankie" USSR, I say remove and execute all libs and fascists (same thing imo) from the place, it'll make it better.
"both sides" with fascism is a weird idea.
It's the libs and "USSR was baaad, because 'murica say so" that shoud be banned. This scum have the rest of reddit (and the internet, really) to be a rot anyway.
i don't see them often enough to care, maybe one or two the past couple days.
I think r/ussr should be dedicated to its history, culture, politics, legacy and so on. As per its summary. However modern politics and interpretations are still apart of how we view the Soviet Union, and so it should not be banned. It should just not be the entire unregulated focus of this subreddit. There are plenty of other places to post that stuff. Especially on Reddit. We do not need to replicate it here all the time, while the quality of discussion I enjoy here end up diminishing to louder political speech. Again. just less, not a ban. We also tend to get a lot of discussion from liberals as well, which is much harder to find on other places on the internet. I think it is the genuine interest of the USSR which prevents any discussion becoming a political bar fight.
This sub's description says "Discussions include historical analysis, archival material, propaganda, art, and the lasting impact of the Soviet era across former republics and the world." - and TankieUSSR reports are nothing of that kind. They are sooo meaningless. Literally low-effort memes. So I'm for banning them.
Tankies are ruining this subreddit. The USSR was an interesting place and I like learning about it. The constant "Stalin never did anything wrong and everyone who disagrees is a fascist" is very boring not worth engaging with.
"Tankies are ruining discussion of the Tankie state and not letting us do lib propaganda about the Tankie state!"
Impregnate them idk Why am I even here I’m capitalist
