I have paid for newsbin and used it for many years. It feels like it is no longer being updated and a lot of files I download are still obfuscated. What is the current best client I can use instead?
Newsbin works great for me, on the latest stable release. You might need to check your settings, because everything I send to the arrs gets it's own folder named from the nzb and the files are intact from the uploader. DrunkenSlug & Geek tend to have more obfuscated posts, but if you have Newsbin extract the content it would be named after the nzb. If you are wanting the rar files for archive grab the srr file and recreate them that way. I also use NZBget occasionally, but I mostly use Newsbin and have for almost 2 decades, but use what you want, they all work.
NZBGet is best. After it was abandoned, and adopted by a new developer, it just gets better and better. Doesn't suffer the resource load of SAB
a lot of files I download are still obfuscated
The only way to rename obfuscated filenames is to use the NZB which was created by the uploader. Only the uploader's NZB contains all the Message-IDs for all the articles, including the PAR2 files. The PAR2 files contain checksums which enable auto-renaming of obfuscated filenames
If you have the PAR2, NZBGet and SAB will auto-rename. If you're not using NZBGET or SAB, you can use your favorite PAR2 app to run a par2 repair. The repair will rename all the obfuscated filenames back to the original filenames
Resource load? Please tell me more! I’ve been troubleshooting Sab bricking my homelab all day. I also just posted in this subreddit about it as well haha. What is the resource load problem exactly? Sounds like maybe I should switch to NZBGET?
In general NZBGet is faster because it is written in a low level language. SAB is more user friendly but does not have the same level of optimisation as NZBGet
I used to love nzbget but the drama surrounding the abandonment and then picking it back up was utter nonsense. Sabnzb has been reliable built and updated since 2007. eliminate nonsense in your life.
Either NZBGet or SABNZBD. If Newsbin has search (I think it does), neither NZBGet or SAB have it, so you'll need an indexer or two. If you have Newshosting, there's also a client included with search, but you still might want to get an indexer if you don't already have one.

No newsbin on that list

I’ve been using sab for like 15 years and I don’t know what the resource load problem is…or any problem for that matter.
Have you tested the beta version of newsbin link in there forums 6.91 RC4 - Build 5939
nothing is obfuscated for me.

Been using it for 14 years, never had an issue.
Been using SabNZB for years and never had an issue.
Has to be around the 20 year mark for me
I use NZBget currently. Used Sabnzbd in the past. To stream files instead of downloading them, I use NZBDav
nzbdav is amazing
yes it is

NZBHydra has a meta search
SabNZB for me. I've been using it for years with no issues. It easily incorporates with your Arr stack.

Newsreaders are dead? Lol.
I prefer SAB probably because that’s the first one I used, but NZBGet has its pros too.

Thank you sir!
Sabnzbd or nzbget are the 2 best
I use Nzbget. https://nzbget.com/
+1 and if you are on IOS there is a really good controller for it which includes the ability to add indexers and search per indexer or all indexers
On Android there is NZB360
Supports also Radarr, Sonarr etc.
There is an NZB360 equivalent called Helmarr too for IOS which has support for Arr, QBT, SSH, SFTP, Seer, Tautulli / Jellystat, unraid etc
It’s very new and has some bugs to iron but has been excellent so far as I’ve been beta testing it
Sounds nice. But sadly not for Android
What’s it called?
NZBClient
Oh that’s pretty cool, thx
+1 here
