I was always a rather indoors kid, raised as an only child of a single mom, so the subject was never brought up as I was growing up, the bathroom wasn't that busy at home and we never traveled that far from home. In high school I joined the swim team and many of my teammates would pee toward the drains while dressing or in the group showers. I was always rather timid anyway, but I was also terrified of getting into trouble for it and it getting back to my mom, so I didn't that first year.

One day on the way out my friend was teasing me for my always running off to the restrooms just to pee and my mom who was just behind us overheard the whole thing. In the car mom brought up the subject and I rather expected her to be cautioning me not to be intimidated by my friend. Instead, she was asking why I was running off to the restrooms, was I uncomfortable being seen or what was my issue. I explained that I wasn't really shy, it's just that I didn't want to get into trouble. Mom looked confused, asking me "for what." I explained that most of the guys are just peeing in the showers or even as they're changing at their lockers and I assume they'll get into trouble for it eventually. Mom just kinda smiled and said, "oh, boys will be boys, I would think that's rather normal, it's so easy for guys to pee anywhere and it's not hurting anything." I was so surprised to hear mom say this and kinda questioned her more and she was like, "oh, that's probably the least questionable place guys pee, saying my little brothers used to pee everywhere as did your dad, it's no big deal." Mom went on to apologize to me, saying that not having a dad or a brother around, maybe she should have been more open about it, but said it's not really something mom's are supposed to encourage, but rather we're supposed to be the one's asking boys to be a bit more discrete. Even still, we expect boys to do so.

Mom went on to say that sometimes it's better to fit in and be part of the team than to take some moral high ground, She ended by saying, "it really wouldn't hurt you to just take a pee on the floor like everyone else does."

Anyone else grow up being told it's alright to pee outside or in other places?

  • No. I got told off for it as a kid. It wasn't until I was in my 20's and started going clubbing with guy friends that I started to become more at ease with it coz they all pissed in parking lots. And then after Dad died Mum suddenly got a lot more comfortable with peeing outside too. She would even go as far as to just open the door of her car and piss on the driveway when she got home from work. She's been gone 7.5 years now and I only just realized a year or so back that she most likely had a bit of a piss fetish too but held it in check while Dad was around

Probably right, I know a lot of women who put on an image to appease a husband or even boyfriend, but then kinda totally rebel when they aren't around. I don't know if it's so much a fetish or if it's just plain practical. Seeing your mom open up, did you yourself at that point?

Not to the extent where I would pee in front of her or anything. But she knew I didn't care if she wanted to indulge herself

I suspect she knew you were doing so anyway, despite her criticizing you for it. Anyway, I find now that it's kinda cool that it's out in the open and she's not bothered by it.

  • My parents, when we went to the beach, always told me that I could pee in my swimsuit...

Seems like swimming is where nearly everyone lets their inhibitions go, beaches, pools, showers, ect. seems to be all good.

Yes, most people pee in the water, but many don't admit it. I always pee in my swimsuit, both in and out of the water.

It's odd that mom never mentioned that, we used to go down to the river beach all the time. She later revealed that she peed through her swimsuit on the beach or under the shower poles to be discrete.

    He was right!

I just wish mom had shared her thoughts years before, because for years I was tempted to follow the crowd and didn't do so out of fear of what mom would say if it had gotten back to her. Yet all the time mom just assumed I was doing what boys do and was fine with it.

I'm sure he wouldn't have told you anything even if you'd peed your pants on purpose...

And you can still pee your swimsuit

...even if this is a Wendy's

Yes of course, I still do it! It's normal for me!!

  • I grew up in the outdoors on acreage, I probably peed outside more than inside. I think it definitely played a part in my openness and love of being outside and peeing outside

  • I was in the scouts as a kid so for guys and girls it becomes the norm to go and find a bush
