Cardboard is your best friend. You can usually get a shitload from grocery stores in the evening when they're stocking shelves. After that, as many blankets as you can get. Get rid of ALL the drafts you can.
Glass is a radiator. Whatever temp it is outside will radiate inside. Big blackout curtains, towels (preferably beach size but either way, make em as dark as possible. Even those cheesy little throw blankets will work.
DO NOT GET ELECTRIC BLANKETS, HEATERS ETC UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAKE UP FREEZING WITH A DEAD BATTERY!!!!
My BEST advice, if you're not really tied down there, go fucking south. I just fled Ohio because there was no work and the local news said it was going to be the coldest winter in 12 fucking years.
Offer the person advise. Stick your prayers in your ass.
Here in Wisconsin, Sunday night/Monday will be our last cold for awhile since by the middle of the week the temps will be getting into the middle to upper 30s. It will seem like a heat wave in comparison. It's not even winter yet and we've already become hardened to winter. I had a frozen pipe in my house yesterday but fortunately got it thawed without any leaking.
Well, my "comfy" house is a 56 year old trailer and I don't give a dry rat's fart about what you think. However, my 24 year old van that I have lived in is comfy in comparison.

I thought this sub is supposed to be about CAR living.
No one gives a dry rats fart about the pipes in your comfy house.
