Most lawyers charge by the quarter hour, even if you correminutes for a total of 40 seconds, you will get charged for 15 minutes. If you chat for 15 minutes and 2 seconds, you'll get charged for 30 minutes. Etc.
Not a lawyer but have worked client based support positions. .25h is the minimum I've ever been allowed to charge. I used to charge nothing for short 1-5 minute things but it adds up quickly.
Um no, most matters will be billed in .1 incriments which is 6 minutes. And that's not counting in the fact that time will be written off by the Billing attorney before it even gets sent to the client.
From experience, personal injury lawyers put on an act so that you feel more comfortable around them. I got hit by a car and the law office that represented me sent Christmas cards for a couple years. Wouldn’t surprise me if people buy into that act and respond in kind.
BUT I’m gonna be fr, I’m a lawyer and lawyers with billable hour requirements do sometimes act like this. This post has made the rounds on lawyer reddit and there’s tons of people unironically talking about how they do this.
U - while I can absolutely believe an attorney would charge for this (many will add billable hours for every single interaction), this looks obviously edited
Most wouldn't, but I've been working in law for 15 years and at the first firm I worked as a paralegal at: EVERYTHING was billable hours. If you open an email and respond it had to be documented. Honestly glad I don't work there anymore - I got out right before one of the partners got disbarred for an IOLTA violation and mishandling client funds.
So yeah, most wouldn't. Some unscrupulous ones absolutely would.
I emailed my lawyer once to ask a routine question, something like “just to confirm we’re meeting on the 16th?” Or whatever. Yeah I got charged for that
Yeah, we were required to bill for every email from a client, legal matters or not. If it took time out of our day (even just a few minutes!) it had to be billed.
Even if the email was just to say thank you or wish us happy holidays
The guy making the argument is lying about said experience, zero lawyers would bill for that, most especially not ones big and successful enough to know it would have them up before an ethics board in double time
Got a firm employing paralegals, that is big and successful enough to know you don't do such a thing
Eta: funny how the liar blocked me when I said he was lying and now you've blocked me to prevent replying to correct your nonsense. You're definitely not the same dude on an alt, no sir.
Dude, I have seen cooks pick up food off the floor and attempt to serve it in front of the boss who then had to fire them on the spot. It would not surprise me that there are unscrupulous lawyers that think they are slick enough to get away with it.
Liar blocked me then so did his alt after posting false info (which they then deleted, or was removed), I'm pretty well secure in my position he is indeed a lying liar. What you've seen cooks do has no bearing on such a naked ethical breach of legal practice, with zero disguise or excuse.
U - he posted another one that showed he made a call to her or something and she logged it but didn't charge anything, so I'm guessing this is the same situation and he forgot to edit the other one.

A 12 hour voting period will begin with each new submission. During that window, you can label the content with one of those three options.
The app will recognize your vote as long as it's the first letter in your top-level comment. You can follow the letter with a period or comma, and it can be upper-case or lower-case, but it has to be the first letter, and a top level comment, and it cannot be as part of a word. (So this paragraph, for example, would not be recognized, because although it starts with 'T', the 'T' is a part of the word "The"; but if it was just "T." or "T, I agree" it would be valid.)

U, I saw the original post a few days ago. It was about someone being annoyed their lawyer charged them for delivering keys and all it was just texting them a PIN code.
U looks like it was done in excel. And lawyers might be greedy but that’s ridiculous. No lawyer in his right mind would do that, plus it’s not correspondence regarding anything to do with law.
But i would also argue that calling your lawyer on thanksgiving would be weird. How much litigation are you involved in that you wish happy holidays to your attorney?
Ive got a lawyer. Havent spoken since my divorce 5 years ago.
Sure, both IT companies and attorneys bill for each interaction (and I'm sure IT companies have stuff in their contracts about how each call/email is billable). But how plausible is it that the OOP actually texted an attorney's work phone to wish them a happy Thanksgiving and not part of an actual legal-related conversation?
People in the original post think OP has fake this post of him getting charged for saying happy Thanksgiving to his lawyer. They were saying that it looks like the “holiday season” was edited in.

U, nothing else on the document is bolded. Also it starts on the second line, so OP probably blocked out the whole row
Ahem, I saw the original. It was to text them the combo to the lock box.
dunno why you're being downvoted, this is true! i just saw the original post (someone left a link in the comments) and that's exactly what it says
Honestly that’s just as bad, it should not have taken them a quarter of an hour to do that and therefor shouldn’t cost 100 dollars

U I thought it was a whoosh of an obvious shitpost, but the OOP is a crypto chud and probably fishing for engagement.
Also, who the hell texts their lawyer just to wish them happy Thanksgiving?
I know my lawyers are on my mass holiday wishes text. 🙄
From experience, personal injury lawyers put on an act so that you feel more comfortable around them. I got hit by a car and the law office that represented me sent Christmas cards for a couple years. Wouldn’t surprise me if people buy into that act and respond in kind.
Tons of people. I know a lawyer and he is always getting random personal texts from people.
I don’t have a lawyer so i guess I’m posting from a point of ignorance.
Honestly, beyond coworkers and vendors/clients, I don’t know anyone whose work device I’d send holiday messages to.
U
You’d think a crypto bro would know how to use MS Paint, but that’s apparently above their skill level
U because it’s pretty clearly edited

Yup. First firm I worked as a paralegal at required us to bill for everything, down to the simplest email or text.
I managed to find a new job right before one of the partners got flagged for an IOLTA violation and was disbarred.
Thankfully I've never worked anywhere else like that since, but if it wasn't for the obvious edit this would seem very realistic to me.

Opening an email that is in regard to legal matters is not comparable to wishing someone a happy Thanksgiving, hth

I also worked in the legal field and will believe it when I see it.
You work in the legal field and don’t believe scumbag lawyers exist??
Ok well you can at least go and bug someone else then
So your experience in the field, and no one else’s, is all that matters? Good to know.
The guy making the argument is lying about said experience, zero lawyers would bill for that, most especially not ones big and successful enough to know it would have them up before an ethics board in double time

Oh thank god
For a second i thought some small parts of our society still had corporate greed, micro managing and an abundance of bureaucracy.
But you said no, so that settles it
U what could you mean? This doesn't in any way look like it's been edited.

Absolutely not
U
Obviously edited, poorly. Also work for an attorneys - they aren’t billing for that.

Send her a bill for $150 for giving her the greeting.

At least she bills down to the quarter hour.
T. I've seen IT companies send a bill for responding to a "thanks for fixing the printer" email. So this isn't far fetched to me at all.

W I’m so confused?
I checked the OOP to see if it was a shitpost account but it's a totally serious crypto account.
I think its rage bait, its just too obvious
Ragebait that's not an obvious joke would be untrustworthy, not whoosh.
I think its pretty obvious 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ if you didn’t look for oop I hope youd agree..
