I've had a weird experience on this grow and am curious if others have had a similar experience, and wondering what I should do next. When I moved this grow into fruiting conditions I noticed some trich growing, but it's been awhile since I've had that so I decided to just let it go and see what happened. As I checked on it each day the trich didn't seem to spread much and eventually mycelium started to grow and kind of encapsulate the clumps of trich, almost creating a barrier to protect the rest of the tub. I've never had this happen or seen pictures of this either. Has anyone experienced this?

So I guess my question is, now what? At this point the flush is probably a few days from harvesting and the trich seems to be contained. If I harvest this flush, are they safe to dry and store? Does this mycelium have some kind of slight resistance or ability to isolate trich? Should I clone the fruits or mycelium? I thought of cutting out the trich clumps after harvesting and putting them on agar to clone the mycelium that is growing directly on the trich. Any feedback and advice is greatly appreciated!

  • Thats so interesting. Maybe wait and see how the fruits form. Thats usually a good indicator of a good genetics. If u get mega fruits with the bonus of them being trich resistant id say definitely preserve that gene. Also commenting for updates later

That’s where my thought process was going. As far as preserving a potential trich resistant gene do you think cloning the mycelium growing on the trich or the fruits growing nearby make more sense? Maybe both? These genetics are already a fruit body clone of a high density flush I grew awhile back so not sure if one cloning method has better results as far as preserving what could potentially have a higher trich resistance.

Id try get as many different types samples as it goes along. So yes collect the myc near the trich. I feel like this will be tricky on agar so good luck. Then try get more sample from the fruits upon maturing also get the spores. Will get complex later as u probably know haha but when u it comes time for s2b just correctly label and you should be fine. Good luck with all this i really hope u discover some type of trich resistant genetic, could be huge! Would also love to know what makes them able to take over trich like this.

Also to note. The way the myc looks to be acting in your pictures seem like its almost isolating the trich infection and maybe even consuming it. Considering how fast trich is known to spread especially at the stage its at in your pictures and being that green usually is more widespread infection but not in yours. So interesting fr i cant wait to see these mature. Pls update later

  • Interesting about the cloning part

  • That's not trich its penecillium. Also theres no su h thing as trich resistance.  Trich is parasitic and consumes the nutrients and the mycelium will never outcompete it.

  • Hi there! Could you please let us know which strain this is? Thanks!

GT, 1 fruit body clone. I know there’s a specific way to notate that but idk what it is lol

  • Trich is extremely common in vegetables an is beneficial to soil. In mycology its more of an issue with repeat contamination then a safety hazard cause the longer you let it go the more chance for spores to spread, an same with drying them after, you would hate to blow them all over your space an then wonder why you have repeat contam issues later on.

  • I stopped reading this post after OP said they saw trich and decided to let it ride to see what happens. I wouldn't eat those fruits because I would assume the fruits have absorbed some of the mold to some extent. I may be wrong tho

The fruits may have some spores on them but with washing or likely after drying they will be completely fine. The mushrooms will not be "infected" with mold. Also the amount of trich spores that would be harmful to humans is enormous.

Makes sense, like if there’s a little mold on a piece of bread it’s not like the entire loaf is contaminated. I wasn’t planning on keeping the fruits directly around the trich patches, but I might clone some.

I would keep all the fruits. Seriously, you're at no risk with the amount of trich in that tub. I've seen people pull an already grown flush from a tub nearly turned entirely green. Don't disturb the trich spores, and if they happen to get all over your fruit just quickly rinse them or don't even worry about it and they'll be clean after drying. But regardless you're not at any risk I assure you.

Don't waste any fruits because of this, trich will not infect your fruits, just the substrate.

There is no danger for the vast majority of people.

That isn't a health issue... There are some contaminants that can be but trich is more of a problem for your grow/future grows than anything else. It is parasitic to fungus and outcompetes it at every turn. Assuming you arent immunocompromised.

That’s what the science of mycology is though…. Trying new and strange things and seeing what results from it… just be sure to write down your observations!!

My understanding is that the spores of the trich are harmful to humans. So those fruit are laden with trich spores

Not dangerous for anyone with a healthy immune system.

Not really terrible as long as you aren't eating the trich/mycelium cake itself and at that point you kindof asked for it. It is only an issue for immunocompromised people who should probably be on serious drugs to compensate and/or in a positive pressure room.
