Could it be a plastic lock that was used to protect the machine during shipping from the factory? Not sure where it would go, but I have seen a vid on YT of a new old stock lettera, and I think it used plastic pieces like that.
I’m thinking this is the most likely answer. It wasn’t attached to anything and there isn’t any clear place for it to fit.

It's 100% not part of the machine, that's for sure, I've had many Letteras apart
