Yeah you can specially make cookie dough that is safe to eat by baking the flour first. If you buy it "to eat" from somewhere this is typically what they do. But don't just try your cookie dough batter at home if it as raw flour in it. It's worse than the raw egg statistically.
About 1 egg in 20,000 is contaminated with a food-borne illness, like salmonella, E. coli, or something else. However, every non-contaminated egg is perfectly safe. Each properly stored egg has an independent 1/20,000 probability of being contaminated.
By the nature of how flour is milled, every singlebag of flour can be considered contaminated. That's because all of the grain makes contact with the same milling surfaces, so if any of the grains are contaminated, they contaminate the equipment that every other grain touches during the process. Because everything touches everything else, no bag of flour is independent of the contaminated flour.
depends on where you live. american eggs are washed with bleach (for some reason) allowing the bacteria to enter the egg, in other places they're safe as long as you wash your hands after cracking them
wow i had to reread the image, then reread the caption again in order to understand that it wasnt a helpline for people addicted to eating raw dough
I thought it was some sort of poison control for people who had already eaten it
is it not
I think it’s an advice line for baking questions lmao
Seriously though don't eat raw flour, even in cookie dough. It's typically not treated and you can get E. coli and Salmonella.
"worth it" I say as I am lowered into my grave
You can bake the flour first, then eat the unbaked dough, or so I've heard.

Worse than the raw egg by a very wide margin.

Oh, it’s not the eggs?
Eggs are salmonella. Flour is E. Coli. If you live outside of North America eggs might be fine depends probably.

You also need to wash the eggs before cracking them.
I instead initially interpreted it as "don't eat raw flour or dough, call us so we can eat it for you"
To be fair, raw cookie dough is delicious
That hotline is actually really helpful, there’s a person on the other end who can help you troubleshoot baking issues
IIRC this is actually a known psychological disorder
Pica?
something something, addictive white powder
To me it looked like a hotline for people considering suicide by flour poisoning.
Same. But I think it's probably about pica.
I still have no idea what it's about
King Arthur Flour has a baking helpline where they'll troubleshoot whatever problems you're having with your baking.
Oh wow how cool. Thanks!
Acute raw cookie dough overdose.
I must resist the urge to call and tell whoever answers that I need help with my addiction to eating raw flour...
i can’t imagine what this could be if not scp about flour/dough addiction
Genuinely love it when I start reading a post and have the exact same thought as the comment further down.
or the hotline links you with an experienced baker who can eat the dough for you!
Alternatively, they would like to eat the dough instead
It’s not my fault raw cake batter tastes so fucking good
I assumed it was made that way on purpose, like to comedically evoke the idea of an emergency helpline for people addicted to eating raw dough.
