So I'm on a T break for health concerns (not CHS). The wife was wanting me to swap to a dry herb vape, but I'm completely clueless from what's a good device to what's a decent strain, not crazy high thc. So I'm humbly asking fellow Ents for any insight you could share.
Check out the group r/vaporents and the web site “Fuckcombustion”.
Cheap and good are seldom true in the same statement. I recommend saving your money before settling on a cheap device. I have several in a drawer that didn’t work, and others in the trash that broke.
Personally, based on what I have and use, the Lobo is the cheapest of my devices I don’t consider a waste of money. I have heard the Rogue 2 is similar vapor, a little cheaper, but no user replaceable battery. The Fury 3 is supposed to be about the same but with a smaller oven. (Keep in mind, I have never used or even seen a Rogue 2 or Fury in person, I have and love the Lobo, just tossing a couple cheaper ones there.). If you have more to spend, the options get better.
It depends how/how much you smoke. I used to smoke only bong rips and dab big dabs. I bought a solo 2 and it was not enough for me to really get into it.
If you are a heavy smoker and smoke thru bongs I’d recommend a “ball vape” like the flowerpot. I’ve never used one but always wanted one. From what I’ve read it vaporizes large amounts of flower super quick to the point it’s just as quick as smoking.
If you’re not a super heavy smoker then most of the portable vaporizers will be fine. One day my tolerance changed and I can’t smoke much anymore and a .1/.2 out of my solo 2 is awesome

I was a heavy smoker for years, big dabs and all the 4ft bong rips i cold handle. In my old age I need to chill more and bring down my tolerance. OMW to see visit that subreddit!
r/vaporents recommended a lot of great products. I went with the rogue 2. I charge at my desk. It can be used while charging, its easy to clean, and pretty straight forward.
Arizer makes some quality vapes.
There's also the Volcano which is priciest on the market but really good
And stuff like ball vapes
and stuff like portable vapes
I’ve used Arizer products for the last 10 years and they’ve never failed me. I own the Solo 2 and 3 and they’re both tanks and the best around IMO. The solo 2 is cheaper and tbh the 3 isn’t much of an upgrade. I’ve had the Mighty + and many others but the Solo is the best/easiest and tastiest I’ve had. The mighty + is good but it’s a pain in the ass to maintain and keep clean with all the gaskets and mesh screens. The Solo uses glass stems and they’re a game changer. Highly recommend the Solo 2
Sweet I'll check out those Arizers, hoping for something portable-ish , not a deal breaker if its a home only setup.
Solo are small enough to be portable but not discreet like a smaller units but you get the best of both worlds in the sense it’s strong enough to be a table top and small enough to carry with you without the attachments. You’ll save a ton of money on bud and your lungs will thank you.
Thats great to hear, been feeling lost when it comes to the dry herb vapes.
You can even try to find a Solo 1 original. Sure it’s a little older but it’s still great and a cheaper alternative. If you enjoy vaping then you can look at upgrading.
I second the solo 2. I got it because I didnt want to break the bank but didnt want something super cheap that didnt give me a good idea of what DHV is all about. It takes a little time to get it down, but it has been great. Mine came with a carrying case that fits the battery and two glass stems, it works great for traveling.
Congrats on making the switching to DHV and ditching combustion. Now you'll want to read up on terpenes and cannabinoids, now that you will finally be able to experience them all. Your preferred terpene profile will lead you to the best strains, for you.
As for devices, most everyone here is a device snob and will ridicule whatever you get, if it's not what they have. Reddit psychology is weird. I got in at a low price point myself, with a well-known portable device with years of refinement: XMax V3 Pro for around $60 now. Solid entry level device with top-shelf features. But if money is no object, don't listen to me.
Well off to get my masters in terp profiles. Gives me something to do with my adhd. Appreciate the heads up
I love the V3 too. I vape at 391F, best combo of good terps with less toxins released.
This guy's YT channel is great. I always point people to this particular vid where he explains different terpenes: https://youtu.be/4WFoWjVstE4?si=pZv5eR-i6OpX3BIh
If you’re going dry herb vaping and it’s primarily for home use I would advise skipping over the old volcano style devices and hoping straight to ball head vapes.
I use the wireless one hit wonder, one of the cheaper all in one kits, there are still cheaper options with less frills though. Keep in mind you’ll still need to purchase a glass device such as a bong to use it.
It seems like an expensive device but any cheap DHV and you’ll stop using it over time.
Totally depends on your tolerance what we recommend. However, the lobo and the dynavap get me sufficiently faded, and also have their own rituals I enjoy!
What's your normal herb usage (frequency, grams per day)
Dynavap or POTV Lobo
Outside of my ball vape I like both the mighty and solo3. Solo 3 is great thru a bong.
I'm a joint smoker so no advice on vapes. As far as strain recommendations go, we need more info as far as to why you're smoking ie for pain, sleep, appetite, focus, etc or if you're just an old school smoker smoking for the high (that's what I am lol). You could also go on allbud or leafy and explore strains on there. Both allow you to search by effect, flavor, strain type (indica, sativa, hybrid)
Yah been smoking since the 90s, was looking for a nice balance on cannabinoids. Mostly for pain and to relax. So yeah more like the old stuff that made ya laugh and relax. Lowering my tolerance to start over hopefully. I'll check out those sites, last i tried was on my phone and it didn't like the adds and such.

Was a daily smoker, then graduated to dabs, back down to edibles(which don't seem to cut it)
I love my Da Buddha as a desktop vape. Always on always ready big fat hits no char. fool proof.
You don't need to worry about the strain so much they all hover around the same you might have to experiment a little but all the weed works in a decent vape.
I’ve never even heard of chs until the last few weeks
Arizer is great for sessions and the Tinymight2 is good for big, immediate hits (closer to bong rips). I used to be only Js and blunts but gave up combustion and these two are my faves.
Yeah definitely congrats on switching from combustion to vaporization. It's a good move. I started with and am still using butane vapes. I'm not ready to go up to a ball vape(next month I will), and I'm just afraid that an electronic won't hit the same. So just do your homework. Pick a device that's gonna get you properly medicated. You can check out TheRogueWaxWorks. The guy Dave does excellent work.
Yeah healthy lungs ftw! I'll definitely check out that Rogue wax works.

The best entry you could make, IMO, is the Terpcicle if you don't mind using a bong or some other glass. It's super affordable and gives some great hits.
The next step up is a ball vape, but I saw you are trying to cut back. If you think the Terpcicle would still hit too much you might consider a butane torch vape. Dynavap is the most popular, but there are other companies innovating on the idea.
I bought the verge from ooze. I've used it for 8 months now with no issue. Super easy to use and clean. Uses very little weed and gets you super high. Can adjust to any temp so you can find the range where your lungs won't burn bad. I have really bad lungs and dont cough to much when using it.
Oh thats great information. I'll add it to my list to research!
I'm quite partial to my DaVinci IQ. Hitting it now in fact
Those look like a nice little device!
I've been a big fan since I first tried one back in 2016. Very light to heavy heat, but never tastes like popcorn. Some of the best terps I've ever gotten outta a vape. Feels like an Apple product, like a Mac book pro. Harder to clean than a pax but I've never had any issues with residual gunk or anything
I love my volcano, but it didn't come cheap. Storez and bickle does have sales from time to time but you don't necessarily have to start with a diamond ring.
