I saw some enthusiastic posts about Sri Lanka lately and I just wanted to join in and say: Yes, if you think about a trip to Sri Lanka, do it!
We really wanted to travel to South Asia but could not decide what country. Thailand and Vietnam were not our go to countries and India seemed like a bit too much for the first trip into the region.
So we thought, hey, what about Sri Lanka? And after 14 days we were blown away by the kindness of the people and the beauty of the country.
We booked everything from home and hired a local driver for the trip around the island. We did some of the classics like Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, Yala and Anuradhapura.
But our favorite place were the mountains east of Haputale. Just small villages around, few tourists, great lookouts, roads and hikes through the endless sea of tea plantions. Very quiet, relaxing area with friendly locals.
In general we never had the feeling of getting hassled like it seems to be the case in India (never been there, just heard about it!). Even in bigger cities like Colombo or Kandy.
All around you can’t go wrong with Sri Lanka. Rich history, monumental holy sites, nice food, not too crowded with tourists (we visited in September), great beaches and more.
Sri Lanka feels like a land where history and nature exist side by side.
Love the photos, Sri Lanka looks absolutely amazing.
I'm going there at the end of next month, I can't wait. Fabulous photos
Sri Lanka is amazing. The tea plantations around Haputale were my favorite too, so peaceful and scenic. Definitely a gem for a first South Asia trip.
Amazing photos mate.
Go during the Kandy Esala Perahera, truly magical.
The tea country is stunning and the coasts beautiful...and there is still intense poverty so travel with respect, generosity and patience.
Beautiful 🥰 MAC.
I'm currently in Sri Lanka and it's absolutely beautiful here! Great photos
Hope you enjoy your stay! Thank you!
Fantastic photos. I’m envious!
Beautiful!!
So lush!!! 🤩
Can you share your itinerary, please? Did you travel solo or with a group? These photos are incredible.
This looks like such an amazing journey! From lush jungles and serene temples to stunning horizons and little local spots, every corner seems to offer something new. Makes you really feel the adventure.
Can you share the name and contact of your driver? I'm in the area!
Sorry, unfortunately I don’t got his WhatsApp anymore.
Wow wow never been , looks magical ❤️❤️❤️❤️🐘🐘
Beautiful
Great pics. I need to get back there one day soon.
Is it good?
Sri Lanka is refreshing to visit with its lush green tea gardens, forest, temples etc. It has a lot to offer.
I love your photos.
Amazing these are so beautiful
I like travel I will definitely go there
Great to know - Looking forward to visit Sri Lanka soon!
Wonderful
Kataragama was the craziest town we visited. Hindu festivals, cows walking the streets, no other tourists because it’s so far out of the way. It was wild
Good good. Food looks clean. Haha
May I ask how much you spent or budget tips kahit konti? Thank you.
It is indeed a beautiful country. I highly recommend taking the panorama train and if you take any train: make reservations for first class compartments (or the panorama compartment if eligable) else you'll end up a sardine standing for hours in a third class compartment.
The people though: mixed feelings. After a couple of days there I was so annoyed by the people trying to lure me into some store (mostly tea stores, mostly owned by some relative) with stories about being victims of "The Tsunami" that turned out to be completely made-up. Imho shitty behavior on the backs of the real victims of that tragedy.
lo sri lanka mi affascina sarebbe bellissimo poterci andare un giorno! cosa mi consilgiereste di vedere li? sono molto appassionata di viaggi :-)
lol i love the tea country vibe but watch out for the pothole traffic in Colombo, its a nightmare if youre not used to it
Have you tried tea?
Sure, but I could not tell you what brand. Got no idea😅 Just make sure you do not drink it with milk😉
Great photos!
Can you recommend the driver you used? Thanks
Sorry if touchy or intrusive questions but are you a woman? If so did you travel with a man? Did you experience unacceptable behavior by locals or were you made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe? I've always wondered about shri Lanka's treatment of women considering their neighbor's reputation.
No problem, I‘m a guy, so I can’t really answer your question. I traveled with my family, we never had any issues or weird situations. But if you think about traveling alone or with a female friend, I can’t tell you how that would change the situation.

Definitely less than Paris. Also much safer than major cities in US.
I was expecting scammers when I landed 3 weeks ago and it's been farthest from the truth. I have been met with nothing but hospitality, kindness and smiles. I'm sure there's probably scams just like anywhere else in the world but it's not a prominent issue here. They love tourists.
No, people try to sell you something to earn their living. Just like in every other country.
