If you dont mind me asking though, why do people reply in different languages to English posts? Im not playing the ‘reddit is american’ bullshit, im not american myself, but ive never even had the thought of commenting in dutch on english posts.
I get other people speak different languages, but if your comment translates to something related to the post, you understood what it said (although this is a bad example since theres not that much text).
I see it on instagram and youtube as well, a lot of japanese and korean, but also other languages. Im just curious why people do this (unless theres a reason for it ofc)
I always thought it was due to auto-translation. You set the site to your native language, your browser automatically translates whatever text isn't, then you don't think about matching your language to whichever one the post is. Alternatively, it could be someone who doesn't know English at all, manually translated the post, but didn't use any translation features for their comment. Who knows though. That, and some people like to post comments in their language for other people who also speak it. Maybe they don't mind that nobody can read it and don't care one way or another. Which, imo, is fine. We all are on the internet, if we're dying to know, we can translate it.
