This is my yesterday's attempt to sing Every Time by Janet Jackson.
So, I know it's not really good and that it sounds kinda weak but, do I sound more like a woman who simply sings bad, or more like a guy trying to force high notes? My sensation is that I sound more like a young boy, but it could be the dysphoria talking, I dunno...
Also, is my passagio too noticeable? I feel like, my mixed voice above the passagio becomes weak and unsteady, so I have to make my chest voice weak too to make it smoother. Any tips for that?
Thank you~
EDIT: Tried again, does this one sound better?
Not gonna lie, this sounds horrible. You're going into falsetto, thats bad. Female voice firstly is a resonance, then pitch etc. Try to put your hand on your chest and start talking male voice. You will feel vibration. Your goal is to move this vibration from chest to your head. Start pronouncing "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm", you would not feel this vibration. Then try other sounds like "mmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "mmmmmmuuuuuuu" etc. Then if you're doing good, try using "mmm" for words, like "mmmmmmmilk shake" then try sentences. About larynx: do not put it too high, you will sound bad.
P.S I hope this is understandable, english is not my native language.
UPD:
I'd say you sound more like a woman than man
Darn... that's exactly what I'm trying, actually, to move the vibration from chest to head. The mmmm exercise is one of the exercises my voice therapist taught me, and I use it for warming up.
It's a falsetto? I thought it was mixed? How to I know the difference? I feel the vibration around my mask and also a little just where the chest ends and the neck begins, and the sensation is different what when I do a full head voice or what I thought was actually a falsetto (Mickey Mouse voice).
I can try lowering my laryinx, though, as you are right it may be too high, but is it possible to reach the higher notes with a lower larying? I notice my voice breaks a lot if I try singing it with a lower laryinx, like I can't transition from C4 to E4 without breaking at D4.
EDIT:
Does this one sound better? It sounds different on the lower notes, at least.
It's not "falsetto," that's nonsense. Also, ignore advice to feel around for sympathetic vibrations (that's also a nonsense strategy,) work with sound directly instead, You are inefficient/breathy and that's why it sounds this way.
Have a look at clips with "connected/disconnected," "adducted/abducted," "rasp" on Selene's clips page.
