I have to go to a blood test drop in centre to get my first blood test to be able to get testosterone, since my GP won’t for private care. They said I need to provide the tube and label.. what does this actually mean and how to I get it? Is there special ones? I remember they mentioned different colours.

The one i’m most stuck on is the labels, i sort of figured out the tube now.

I posted this on r/FTM & nobody answered, it won’t let me cross post.

(Edit: i had asked the drop in centre lots of questions and they weren’t sure of things themselves, that’s why i’m asking here)

  • I would ask at the centre, ring even, they might know what that means as medical professionals :)

Yeah i did ask them, lots of questions 😅 and they weren’t sure.

Probably then you need to keep the container of blood after they test? The tube will be labelled... not 100% :)

oooh maybe. That’s another good question to ask, thank you. 😆

  • Sorry dude they’re being twats. Mine did this too and they’re basically fobbing you off giving you questions you obviously won’t be able to answer.

  • That's weird. I would have thought they'd want to provide the tube themselves to avoid any risk of contamination. Similarly, a label? Each organization is going to want to use labels that match their own internal formats in terms of what information is placed where.

  • Hi i work in pathology. Generally to do a blood test we need the right selection of tubes (with blood in them), and a request either in the form of a paper request form or a barcode label from the electronic requesting system that the lab/local nhs trust uses. Since you're doing it privately things might be a bit different but i would've thought either you book on the website where you ordered the test to go and get your blood drawn by a phlebotomist somewhere in one of their clinics, or you get sent a finger prick kit in the post. Asking a patient to find their own collection tubes doesn't sound quite right to me.
