Skye (blue eyes). Photo was taken on 14 December 2023 by the animal shelter, and was slated to go live on the animal welfare department's adoption page at noon on 15 December. I adopted her before they had the chance to post it.
I see “TX” in your username, are you in Texas? We used to live in the Austin area and adopted Frida from the Austin Humane Society. Any chance Skye’s from that area and they’re related??
Skye came from the Oklahoma City Animal Welfare shelter. She was trapped with her very spicy torti mom and according to the card on her solo enclosure, she was adverse to people, other cats, dogs and "most small animals" and allowed only one person to deal with her - my granddaughter. Since her mom had told her for 20 years that she got her natural animal friendship talent from me, I was sent to adopt this kitten that was determined to be a solo act.
Frida was also considered spicy - and was very spicy at first! One guy at the shelter was like “you want THAT one??”
Turns out all she needed was a best friend (RIP to both Frida’s and my soulcat 💙Homer💙) to help her expend her seemingly endless supply of energy. Now she’s much more mellow at about age 15 though she still gets the zoomies
I had FOUR different staffers ask me "Are you sure" when I showed them the picture of her card my granddaughter texted. I sat down in front of her enclosure, opened the door and offered her my hands to sniff at her leisure. She strolled right up, sniffed once, walked past my hands and into my lap, where she curled up.
It happened a little differently for us. My husband was dead set on Frida, I wasn’t sure (there was another cat I preferred) but Frida seemed very sweet so I agreed to go with her. He left to tell someone that we’d decided on her, and while he was gone Frida bit me! Not hard but still! I inexplicably kept that to myself (so unlike me) and we took her home.
I knew nothing about cats at the time so we had a few weeks of adjusting where she scratched or bit me intentionally a few times. It’s wasn’t really bad or anything but at one point I questioned whether we should keep her. Instead I did my homework and learned more about cat behavior and meeting all of her needs (thank you Jackson Galaxy) and we were able to nip our problems in the bud.
14 years later and she’s my best friend who wouldn’t DREAM lashing out aggressively. I can even bury my face in her belly, and she’s the only one of our 3 cats who enjoys attention from our toddler
Merry Christmas from Miss Peanut

So adorable! 💜
The dainty little paws!
She is very dainty 😭
Look at those CHEEKS!!!!
Love you Frida ♡ I don't have any Christmas decorations at home to put up for my Miya :( I'll see what I can find
I barely did. Plan b was to surround her in wrapping paper or just something red.
Oo another thing you could do is just draw a Christmas tree (or pull up a photo on a screen or something) and set it next to her

Here's my little old lady enjoying a heated blanket at her favorite spot, my legs. I don't really decorate so this is as close as I get. Cinnamon 14F
I love her! Frida is also an old lady - most likely 15
What a cutie! Unfortunately I have no Christmas decorations.
I barely did! Low effort photos welcome

What she needed was a home that loved her. This was taken 6 months post-rescue.
AWWWWWWWWWWW this story is so sweet!

"Yes, I'm quite sure. Why do you keep asking?"
Oh so sweet!
